South Suburban & Lemont CHECK OUT the Events at It was Long Term Care Day with the Indiana Legislators on January 23rd and I had the pleasure of being down in Indianapolis with some staff members of our Indiana facilities. We were working with the Indiana Healthcare Association on advocating on issues facing Long Term Care. Prior to the this meeting we have been working with specific legislators around funding, staff training, shortage of staff in some areas, and trying to keep Indiana Medicaid population out of Managed Care programs. I am pleased to announce that the Indiana House of Representatives passed a House Resolution (25) “Honoring Hoosier long-term care professionals.” The resolution passed unanimously. It was touching moment for me because I knew whether I went to one of the ECC consulted facilities in Indiana or Illinois, I too would hear the same pride, the same fulfillment from many of our employees that spoke in the State House of Indianapolis. On the Illinois side of politics things are ramping up as we have a Governor’s race this year. The Primary is March 20th but many areas have instituted early voting. I encourage everyone to get out and vote. Governor Rauner has presented his next budget and it is sad to say it includes a cut to Medicaid – the program that funds care and services to the most vulnerable people in our State including Nursing Home residents. Payments for Medicaid residents are again lagging in timelines of receiving and this causes a great strain to the financial operations of a number of Medicaid providers and nursing homes across the State. And the enrollment of Medicaid residents into Managed Care programs has increased which has added more lag times and more difficulties in facilities getting paid for services. When will IL recognize the value, hard work, and commitment of our staff working with the residents we serve? Spring is around the corner. Enjoy the weather change. The month of February is dedicated to Congenital Heart Disease Awareness. At Tri-State Nursing Center we celebrate this month in honor of Bryana Walker, the daughter of our Treatment Nurse Shanise Douglas. She was born on September 25, 2016 with an interrupted aortic arch, aortic stenosis and ventricular septal defect. Her first of two open heart surgeries was when she was 10 days old and her second was when she was five months old. This beautiful little girl has not let this or anything else stop her from enjoying life to its fullest. Bryana, we wish you and your family all of the best on a complete and speedy recovery. Keep on smiling!

Tri-State staff ROCK’s!!! During the bad snow storm on February 9th, 2018, Tri-State’s staff and Consultants really pulled through to make a potentially difficult situation into “just another day at Tri-State.” The Staff, Department Managers and ECC Consultants all fought the weather, dug themselves out of over a foot of snow and braved the roads to make their way to Tri-State; all to take care of our residents. Their actions that day – coming in on-time or working unplanned doubles – really spoke volumes to the dedication that they feel to the residents and to Tri-State. They, in turn, were treated to a great

lunch sponsored by Tri-State. So I

would like to say again to Tri-State staff

and ECC Consultants – YOU ROCK!!!

Keep that fire burning brightly!

Lakewood’s Administrative Assistant, Amber Nelson, has organized a craft fair, called Crafts for a Cause, that takes place in our facility where proceeds go towards the Alzheimer’s Association. With the help of local vendors and crafts made with and by our residents, we have raised over $1,033 for the cause. So far we have had a fair before Christmas and Valentine’s Day, and our next event will be March 24, 2018 at 1:45 pm along with our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

What’s cooking at Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation and Sheffield Manor?

Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation and Sheffield Manor would like to welcome Terenie Burnett, the new Dietary Manager, to the team! Terenie comes to us with over 12 years of experience in Healthcare. In Terenie’s free time she partners with her husband and runs a Catering Company called Burnett’s Catering. She is also the Mother to 2 boys that she loves dearly. Terenie loves cooking Soul Food and understands the importance of teamwork to make magic happen in the kitchen. What Terenie likes best about what she does is the smile she gets so often from the people and residents she prepares food for! She loves to garnish and is all about the presentation as well as the taste. What she feels makes her a great leader is her dedication to her team, quality of the food she serves and cleanliness in her kitchen. An interesting fact about Terenie is that she cooked in the Army for 11 years! Stop by and welcome Terenie at Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation and Sheffield Manor today!

The Indiana Extended Care Teams including Munster Med-Inn, Sebos Nursing and Rehabilitation, Spring Mill Health Campus, Lincolnshire Health and Rehab, and Dyer Nursing and Rehabilitation all came together for an incredible evening to honor all the achievements of the Methodist Hospitals Orthopedic Department which included a presentation from a partnering Orthopedic Surgeon and Medical Director of the Ortho Department, Dr. Vineet Shah.

ECC represented all of our Indiana buildings which work closely with this partnering hospital. It was a great evening hearing the sharing of some great testimonials of what these surgeons do every day to help their patients and the many stories touched our hearts. ECC was proud to represent our many buildings that assist in these patients recovery every day.

Munster Med-Inn, represents the HEART of Healthcare at the Chamber’s “Love your Business” Event Munster Med-Inn represented at the Munster, Highland, and Griffith’s Chamber of Commerce at their Annual Love Your Business Event. Chauntisha Jakes, Director of Business Development put her HEART into her display! With over 50 vendors at the Munster Performing Arts Center, Munster Med-Inn’s booth stood out amongst the rest with fresh bakery items and more! Munster

also represented as a proud sponsor of our GO RED Campaign for Women which kicks off with our annual luncheon in May.

Munster Med-Inn was able to showcase to the community and other local business partners exactly what they do daily, provide HEART in everything they do for their guests/residents!
