The special measure allows individuals to purchase alcohol at a licensed establishment, leave that establishment with an open container and consume alcohol in shatterproof containers outside during special events approved by the city council. SAUGAHATCHEE REOPENS WITH NEW GOLF COURSE Saugahatchee Country Club will soon be reaping the rewards of the $1.2 million dollar renovation that includes a redesign and reconstruction of green complexes and bunkers. Considered “old school classic,” the greens hold the main focus and bunkers are low-lying and grass-faced. After being closed for seven months, the course reopens August 30 and will celebrate with the Grand Re-Opening Member Golf Tournament on Labor Day. FIRST PUBLIC MEETING FOR DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN In recent years, through the citizen survey, Auburn residents have identified the need for downtown improvements including increased parking, improved maintenance and more outdoor dining venues. In 2012, Auburn residents approved a downtown improvements project that includes the Gay Street parking lot, currently nearing completion. In May, the Auburn City Council approved funding for a Downtown Master Plan to improve downtown and meet the future needs of citizens and visitors. Auburn’s Downtown Master Plan aims to expand the current urban core southward and westward and develop a unified vision that serves all Auburn residents. The Downtown Master Plan will be developed with significant public input to ensure that it reflects the needs and interests of local residents and businesses. The first public meeting will be held on August 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center.
