Isonorm is a fact based font developed for the International Organization for Standardization. Standardization is about breaking things down to its simplest form in order for everyone across the world to understand. Just like discovering the truth, one must break down everything to its basic facts to find out what is real and what is not. Conspiracy theories take a few facts or less and turn it into this overblown situation that nobody can prove. Area 51 has become one of those situations and this book is about breaking down the conspiracies to the facts that we do know about Area 51.

Area 51 is a highly secret military base located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large and secretive military airfield. The base’s primary purpose is to support the development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. The base lies within the United States Air Force’s vast Nevada Test and Training Range. Although the facilities at the range are managed by the 99th Air Base Wing a Nellis Air Force Base, the Groom facility appears to be run as an adjunct of the Air Force Flight Test Center (AF-FTC) at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert, around 160 miles (260 km) from Groom, and as such the base is known to some as Air Force Flight Test Center. Other names used for the facility include Dreamland, Paradise Ranch, Home Base, Watertown Strip, Groom Lake and the most recently Homey Airport. The area known is part of the Nellis Military Operations Area, and the restricted airspace around the field is referred to as (R-4808N), known by the military pilots in the area as The Box. The intense secrecy surrounding the base, the very existence which the U.S. government will barely acknowledge, has led it to become the frequent subject of many conspiracy theories and a central component to UFO folklore.

During World War II, the Army Air Corps (precursor to our modern Air Force) built several runways in Nevada, including a pair of small runways at Groom Lake. They named the spot the Army Air Corps Gunnery
School. After the 1940s, the runways were abandoned.
In the early 1950s, the CIA entered a partnership with Lockheed to develop high altitude aircraft to use in surveillance missions. Kelly Johnson of Lockheed helmed the project. He formed a department of
engineers and test pilots that eventually took on the name Skunk Works. The Skunk Works department was famous for being very secretive and nearly fanatical in the pursuit of their goals.
The CIA and Johnson both knew that secrecy was critical to their success, and so Johnson needed to find a location to develop and test secret aircraft. He wanted a location that was remote enough to avoid
notice, yet still close enough to a major city so that supplying the facility would not be a monumental task. The site would need to be easily accessible by aircraft and out of the way of commercial and
military flight paths. It would also need space to house a sizeable force of military and civilian employees.
In 1955, he traveled to Nevada with test pilot Tony LeVier and CIA representative Osmond Ritland to find a good place to use as a base of operations for test flights. Ritland trained at the Gunnery School
and told Johnson about it. Johnson decided the location was ideal for their operations.
Four months later, crews completed the initial construction. U-2 test flights began and President Eisenhower signed an Executive Order restricting the airspace over Groom Lake. The CIA, the Atomic Energy
Commission and Lockheed oversaw base operations. Eventually, control of the base would pass to the Department of Energy and the Air Force..

THE BEGININGDuring World War II, the Army Air Corps (the precursor to our modern Air Force) built several runways in Nevada, which included a pair of small runways at Groom Lake. They then named the spot the Army Air Corps Gunnery School. After the 1940s, the runways were abandoned. In the early 1950s, the CIA entered a partnership with Lockheed Martin to develop high altitude aircraft to use in surveillance missions. Kelly Johnson of Lockheed Martin helmed the project. He formed a department of engineers and test pilots that eventually took on the name Skunk Works. The Skunk Works department was infamous for being extremely secretive and nearly fanatical in the pursuit of their goals. The CIA and Johnson both knew that secrecy was very critical to their success, and therefore Johnson needed to find a location to develop and test highly secret aircrafts. He wanted a location that was remote enough to avoid notice, yet still be close enough to a major city so that supplying the facility would not be such a monumental task. The site would need to be easily accessible by aircraft and completely out of the way of commercial and military flight paths. It would also need space to contain a sizeable force of military and civilian employees. In 1955, he traveled to Nevada with a test pilot Tony LeVier and CIA representative Osmond Ritland to find a good place to use as a base of operations for test flights. Ritland was trained at the Gunnery School and told Johnson about it. Johnson decided that the location was ideal for their highly secretive operations. Four months later, the crews completed the initial construction. U-2 test flights began and President Eisenhower then signed an Executive Order restricting the airspace over Groom Lake. The CIA, the Atomic Energy Commission and Lockheed oversaw the base operations. Eventually, control of the base would pass to the Department of Energy and the Air Force.

A conspiracy theory alleges a coordinated group is, or was, secretly working to commit illegal or wrongful actions, including attempting to hide the existence of the group and its activities. In notable cases these theories contrast what is represented by the mainstream explanation for historical or current events, as well as the evidence that supports it.

EBE’s assured MJ-12 that the abductions (usually lasting about 2 hours) were merely the ongoing monitoring of de-
veloping civilizations. In fact, the purposes for the abductions turned out to be:1.Insertion of a 3 mm spherical

The U. S. Government was not aware of the far reaching consequences of their deal. They were lead to believe that
the abductions were essentially benign, and since they figured the abductions would probably go on anyway whether

During the period between 1979 and 1983 it became increasingly obvious to MJ-12 that things were not going as
planned. It became known that many more people (in the thousands) were being abducted than were listed on the of-

in stark terror at the mistake they had made in dealing with the EBE’s. They had subtly influenced, through Dr.

who in reality continued to be their informant in his cover capacity of Director of the Center for UFO Studies)

opposite was true. In addition, a plan had been formulated in 1968 to make the public aware of the existence of aliens
on earth over the next 20 years to be culminated with several documentaries to be released during the 1985-1987
period of time. These documentaries would explain the history and intentions of the EBE’s. The discovery of the
“Grand Deception” put the entire plans, hopes and dreams of MJ-12 into utter confusion and panic.Meeting at the

Avionics editor for Aviation Week and Space Technology, NASA scientist James Oberg and a host of others. When the
truth does emerge, if it ever does, how is this shabby, dishonest treatment of totally sane, normal and patriotic
citizens going to be justified? Now you ask, “Why haven’t I heard about any of this?” Who do you think you would hear
it from? Dan Rather? Tom Brokaw? Sam Donaldson? Wrong. These people just read the news. They don’t find lt. They
have ladies that call and interview witnesses and verify statements on stories coming over the wire either AP or
UPI. It’s not like Dan Rather would go down to Wytheville, Virginia and dig into why there were 4000 reports of
sightings i

EBE’s assured MJ-12 that the abductions (usually lasting about 2 hours) were merely the ongoing monitoring of de-

in stark terror at the mistake they had made in dealing with the EBE’s. They had subtly influenced, through Dr.

opposite was true.

They
have ladies that call and interview witnesses and verify statements on stories coming over the wire either AP or
UPI. It’s not like Dan Rather would go down to Wytheville, Virginia and dig into why there were 4000 reports of
sightings i

“devolving” instead of evolving. In any case, according to several autopsies of aliens that have leaked out, the
EBE’s have an atrophied digestive system and other physical problems. This would account for their attempts to cross-

There are rumors that Area 51 has been used for the storage, examination, and reverse engineering of crashed alien spacecraft including the spacecraft recovered from Roswell, the study of alien occupants, both the living and the dead, plus the manufacturing of aircraft based on alien technology. We have excelled very quickly during the past century, technological advances have soared to limitless heights, encompassing almost every avenue with science. Area 51, part of the Nellis Air Force Base is approximately 80 to 125 miles northwest of Las Vegas. At Area 51 the U.S. government has been test flying highly secret Black Project air crafts for many years, several people think this includes UFO’s. They call one part of the Area 51 military site, the Groom Dry Lake area. It has been proven the Stealth and SR 71 projects were built and tested at this famous dry lake. People who work in and around this government installation refer to this highly secret area as “Dreamland” or “Skunkworks” or sometimes just as “Groom Lake.” To date, only one person, Robert Lazar, has gone public and revealed the inner workings of Area 51 and the infamous S4, an even higher secretive part of the military base only 15 miles located from it. According to several newspaper articles and interviews, Mr.. Lazar came forward and became the first person ever publicly to speak about this top secret project. All was fine at this highly sensitive base until that one night in May 1989 when Mr. Lazar, who was a physicist working at Area 51, spoke to the press about aliens and their space crafts. As anyone can imagine, all chaos was created and it still has never settled down. Robert Lazar opened the veil of security and was ready to back up his outlandish story. He tried to explain his involvement in Area 51 and Project S4. He detailed the items in Area 51 and S4 that contained the project that shocked the world. He was so precise, in fact, that he even gave the exact coordinates of Area 51 and S4. American history has had many outlandish stories told and later proved accurate. Area 51’s location is hidden far out in the desert, out of sight, for out of this world aircraft.

NUMBER OF SIGHTINGS
The number of different shapes, sizes, and configurations of claimed UFOs has been large, with descriptions of chevrons, equilateral triangles, circles, spheres, domes, diamonds, shapeless black-masses, eggs, cubes, and cylinders. Skeptics argue that the diversity between shapes, size and configurations points to a socio-psychological explanation. Other researchers argue that the large varying diversity of UFO shapes and sizes points to a possible paraphysical origin. Still others argue that there is also a large diversity in the shapes and sizes of human flying craft, reflecting different origins, propulsion systems, and purposes, so such diversity in UFOs is not necessarily unexpected or necessiarly inexplicable. Another argument is that the true underlying shape may, in some cases, be concealed or even distorted by the ionization of air around the objects, as believed by some researcher advocates, like expert NASA engineers Paul Hill and James McCampbell, to be a common characteristic of the propulsion system. Air ionization could also be partly explained by the diversity of colors reported, as different air molecules are excited at many different energy levels, as well as the bright electric, neon-like glow around the objects often reported, similar to what often happens with polar auroras. Another point of view is that the shape may be concealed or distorted by certain pace-time distortions arising from an anti-gravity propulsion system. However, some feel that such speculations are overly premature because the very actuality of a UFO as an alien craft is itself quite problematic. Other advocates, arguing for the non-conventional interpretation, reply that the high volume of impressive sightings reported by witnesses, from commercial airline pilots to even United States presidents, and occasionally captured on film and radar, possesses strong consistency and cannot just be explained away simply as a mundane phenomena (weather balloons, aircraft, Venus, etc.).
One writer contends to the fact that UFO mass sightings, sometimes called “flaps”, are “a hard core of genuinely unusual sightings, surrounded by a great deal more misidentification, wishful thinking and flakiness.” Other researchers, such as Jacques Vallee, will argue that if UFO sightings are motivated by a mechanism through which the public can release hidden fears and satisfy a strong psychological need for fantasies, why did “UFO waves” not coincide with such science-fiction feats such as Orson Welles’ popular radio adaptation of The War of the Worlds in 1938, or the few motion-picture versions of Flash Gordon? Vallee continues to point out that the theory regarding how the mass general public generates and propagates UFO reports as a tactic of releasing psychological tensions, is denied by the very absence of correlation between notable periods of interest in science fiction and major peaks in supposed UFO activity. It should also be noted that no single, comprehensive “psychological” theory to fully explain the generation of all UFO reports has yet to be proposed. A notable attempt on the basis of his theory of the archetypes, was made by the Swiss-born psychiatrist Carl Jung in his book Flying Saucers (1959). Jung, however, also theorized that at least some UFOs were “nuts and bolts” craft, and based on physical evidence such as simultaneous radar contact.

AURORA
AURORAContinually growing evidence suggests that the answer to this question is yes. Perhaps the most well-know
n event which provides evidence of such
a craft’s existence
is the
sighting of a
triangular plane
over the
North
Sea
in August 1989 by oil-exploration
engineer Chris Gibson. As well as
the famous “skyquakes” heard over Los Angeles since the early 1990s, found to be heading for the secret Groom Lake installation in the Nevada
desert, numerous other facts provide an understanding of how the aircraft’s technology works. Rumored to exist but routinely denied by U.S. of-
ficials, the nam
e of this aircraft is Aurora. The outside w
orld uses the name Aurora because a censor’s slip let it appear below
the SR-71 Blackbird
and U-2 in the 1985 Pentagon budget request. Even if this was the actual name of the project, it would have by now been changed after being
comprom
ised in such a
manner. The
plane’s real name
has been kept a
secret along
with
its existence. This is not unfamiliar though, the
F-117a
stealth fighter was kept a secret for over ten years after its first pre-production test flight. The project is w
hat is technically known as a Special
Access Program (SAP). More
often, such projects are
referred to as “black programs”. So what was the
first sign of the
existence
of such an
aircraft? On 6 March 1990, one of the United States Air Force’s Lockheed SR
-71 Blackbird spyplanes shattered the official air speed record from
Los Angeles to Washington’s Dulles Airport. There, a brief ceremony marked
the end
of the SR
-71’s operational career. Officially, the SR
-71 was
being retired to save the $200-$300 million a year it cost to operate the fleet. S
ome reporters were told the plane had been made redundant by
sophisticated spy satellites. But there w
as one problem
, the US
AF made no opposition towards the plane’s retirem
ent, and congressional attem
pts to
revive the program
were discouraged. N
ever in the history of the U
SAF had a program been closed w
ithout opposition. A
urora is the m
issing factor
to the silent closure of the SR
-71 program. Testing such a new
radical aircraft brings immense costs and inconvenience, not just in the design and
developm
ent of a prototype aircraft, but also in providing a secret testing place for aircraft that are obviously different from
those the public
are aw
are of. Groom D
ry Lake, in the Nevada desert, is home to one of America’s elite secret proving grounds. Here is Aurora’s most likely test
location. Comparing today’s Groom Lake with images of the base in the 1970s, it is apparent that many of the larger buildings and hangars were
added during the following decade. Also, the Groom Lake test facility has a lake-bed runw
ay that is six miles long, twice as long as the longest
normal runways in the United States. The reason for such a long runway is simple: the length of a runway is determined either by the distance an
aircraft requires to accelerate to flying speed, or the distance that the aircraft needs to decelerate after landing. That distance is proportional
to the speed at which lift-off takes place. Usually, very long runw
ays are designed for aircraft with very high minimum
flying speeds, and, as is
the case at Edwards A
FB, these are aircraft that are optimized for very high m
aximum
speeds. A
lmost 19,000 feet of the runway at Groom Lake
is paved for normal operations. Lockheed’s Skunk Works, now the Lockheed Advanced Developm
ent Company, is the m
ost likely prime contractor for
the Aurora aircraft. Throughout the 1980s, financial analysts concluded that Lockheed had been engaged in several large classified projects. However,
they w
eren’t able to identify enough of them
to account for the company’s incom
e. T
echnically, the Skunk Works has a unique record of managing
large, high-risk program
s under an incredible unparalleled secrecy. Even with high-risk projects the com
pany has undertaken, Lockheed has a record
of providing w
hat it promises to deliver.

MJ-12
Majestic 12: (also known as Majic 12, Majestic Trust M12, MJ 12, MJ XII or sometimes Majority 12) is the purported code name regarding a secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials, supposedly formed in the year 1947 by an executive order of U.S. President Harry S. Truman. The entire purpose of the committee was to investigate UFO activity in the aftermath of the infamous Roswell incident, the purported crash of an unknown alien spaceship near Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947. This alleged committee is an important part of the UFO conspiracy theory of an ongoing government plan to coverup of UFO information. The primary evidence for the existence of a group named Majestic 12 is a collection of secrete documents that first emerged in 1984 and which have been the subject of ongoing debate. The original MJ-12 documents state that:
The actual existence of MJ-12 has sometimes been denied by some agencies of the United States government, which insist that the documents suggesting its
existence are hoaxes. The FBI has investigated these documents, and has concluded that they were forgeries, based primarily on an opinion rendered by the AFOSI, the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations. Opinions among UFO researchers are divided: Some argue these documents may be genuine while others contend they are phony, based primarily on errors in formatting and chronology. In 1985, yet another document mentioning MJ-12 and dating back to 1954 was found in a search at the National Archives. Its true authenticity is also highly controversial. The documents in question are rather widely available on the Internet, for example on the FBI website, where they are dismissed as bogus. Since the first MJ-12 documents appeared, thousands of more pages of other supposedly leaked government documents mentioning the MJ-12 and a government
coverup of UFO sightings reality have also appeared, sometimes are collectively referred to as the “Majestic Documents.” All of them are quite controversial, with many disputing their true authenticity. A few have been proven to be in fact unquestionably fraudulent, usually retyped rewrites of some unrelated government documents. The primary new MJ-12 document is a lengthy, linotype-set manual allegedly dating from 1954, known as the MJ-12 “Special Operations Manual (SOM)”. It deals primarily with the handling of crash debris and unidentified alien bodies. Objections to its authenticity usually center on the questions of style and some historical anachronisms. The documents date from 1942 to 1997 and have been widely debated in the UFO community. The documents include such matters as the conduct to be used when meeting an alien, diagrams and records of tests on UFOs, memos on assorted cover-ups, and descriptions of some of the President’s statements about UFO-related issues. These documents also contain supposed signatures of important figures such as Albert Einstein and Ronald Reagan, creating a major debate in the conspiracy and UFO communities. No more documents have been leaked or released since 1997. Their authenticity remains uncertain, and some remain to claim them to be entirely fake. However, before the first appearance of the various dubious MJ-12 documents, Canadian documents dating from 1950 and 1951 were uncovered in 1978. These documents mention the existence of a similar, highly classified UFO study group that operates within the Pentagon’s Research and Development Board (RDB) and headed by Dr. Vannevar Bush. Although the name of the group is still not given, proponents argue that these documents remain the most compelling evidence that such a group did exist. There is also some testimony from a few government scientists involved with this project confirming its existence.
The Majestic 12 group... was established by order of President Truman on 24 September, 1947, upon recommendation by Dr. Vanneva Bush and Secretary
of Defense James Forrestal.

In July 1996, a man named “Victor” announced on Art Bell’s Coast to Coast AM
radio show that he had a videotape of an alien interrogation which had taken place
in Area 51. He claimed that he had made a copy of the tape during a scheduled
transfer of analogue videotape files on the base into digital form, and had then
smuggled the copy out of Area 51. The video appears to show the head of an alien
creature in a dark interrogation room, allegedly using telepathy to communicate
with military personnel and scientists. The footage was eventually included in a
video documentary entitled Area 51: The Alien Interview.

THE GOVERNMENT’S POSITION ON AREA 51The U.S. Government does not explicitly acknowledge the existence of the Groom Lake facility, nor does it deny it. Unlike much of the surrounding Nellis range, the area surrounding the lake is permanently off-limits both to civilian and normal military air traffic. The area is protected by radar stations, buried movement sensors, and the uninvited guests are met by helicopters and armed guards. Should they accidentally stray into the exclusionary “box” surrounding Groom’s airspace, even military pilots training in the NAFR are reportedly grilled extensively by military intelligence agents. The base does not appear on any public US government maps; the USGS topological map for the area only shows the long-abandoned Groom Mine, and the civil aviation chart for Nevada shows only a large restricted area, but it is defined as part of the Nellis restricted airspace. Similarly, the National Atlas page that shows federal lands in Nevada does not distinguish between the Groom block and other parts of the Nellis range. Although officially declassified, the original film taken by US Corona spy satellite during the 1960s have been altered prior to declassification; in answer to freedom of information queries, the government responds that these exposures (which map to Groom and the entire NAFR) appear to have been destroyed (Corona image). Terra satellite images (which were publicly available) were permanently removed from all web servers and
from the monochrome 1m resolution USGS data dump made publicly available. NASA Landsat 7 images are still available (these are still used in the NASA World Wind program and are displayed by Google Maps). In Non-US images, including high-resolution photographs from some Russian satellites and the commercial IKONOS system are also easily available (and abound on the Internet). In a response to environmental and employee lawsuits (including a big class-action lawsuit brought by employees of the base for harmful toxic waste exposure), a Presidential Determination is always issued annually, exempting the Air Force’s Operating Location Near Groom Lake, Nevada from any environmental disclosure laws (2002 determination, 2003 determination). This (albeit tacitly) constitutes the only formal recognition that the US Government has ever given that Groom Lake is more than simply another part of the big Nellis complex. The state of Nevada’s government, recognizing the folklore surrounding the base might afford the otherwise almost neglected area some tourism potential, officially renamed the section of the Nevada Highway 375 near Rachel “The Extraterrestrial Highway”, and posted some fancifully-illustrated signs along its length. Interlopers discovered on (or, some say, near) the restricted area are generally detained by the armed private security guards and are then handed over to the Lincoln County sheriff.
Modest fines (of around $600) often seem to be the norm, although some of the visitors and journalists report receiving follow-up visits from FBI agents. Although federal property within the base is always exempt from the state and the local taxes, while facilities owned by private contractors are not. One researcher has reported that the base only declares a taxable value of $2 million dollars to the Lincoln County tax assessor, who is unable to enter the area to perform an assessment. Some Lincoln County residents have complained that the base is an unfair burden on the county, providing very few local jobs (as most employees appear to live in or near the city of Las Vegas) an iniquitous burden of land-sequestration and law-enforcement costs.

1984The AEC distributes “Background Information on Nevada
Nuclear Tests” to the press. The booklet describes a small
base at Groom Lake called the Watertown Project. The
booklet claimed the facility was part of a project to study
weather.
The first A
-12 arrives at Groom Lake. The first test flight
takes place two months after the aircraft’s arrival to the
base. CIA pilots arrive at the base nearly a year later to
begin flight training.
Years before the public became aware of the Stealth Fighter, the first F117
prototype arrives at Area 51. It’s called the “Have Blue.” That same year,
the United States Geological Survey takes an aerial photo of the base. The
photo appears in numerous publications and is available until 1994, w
hen the
government withdraws it
from release.
The base petitions for an additional 89,000
acres of land to increase the size of restricted
space around the facility. Guards had previously
discouraged the public from entering this
area
before it was officially w
ithdrawn, raising concern
and criticism from locals and tourists. The request is
ratified by Congress three years later.
The restricted airspace expands upwards, but not outwards -- it
measures five by nine nautical miles in size, but extends up to space
and is
designated R-4808. A year later, the Department of the A
ir
Force expands the space again, but this tim
e the perim
eter grows to 22
by 20 nautical miles. This
forms the “Groom Box,” or just “the Box,” as
it is known today. No flights, whether commercial or military, are allowed
in the restricted space (except the test flights from the base itself).
The first M
ig 21, a Soviet aircraft, arrives at Groom Lake.
Officials name the testing program of Mig aircraft “Have
Donut.” Some pilots begin to call the restricted air space
above Groom Lake “Red Square.” Nam
The first flight of the vehicle known as “Tacit Blue” takes
place at Groom Lake. Like the F-117A, Tacit Blue is a
stealth vehicle.

Nevada names Route 375, formerly known as the “loneliest highway in America,”
the “Extraterrestrial Highway.” Skeptics around the w
orld groan in unison.
It appears that crews are building a new hangar, m
uch larger than the existing
hangar. One Web site claims the hangar’s size to be 200 by 500 feet and 100
feet tall.
A Soviet satellite photographs A
rea 51. “Popular Science” runs the
photograph, giving m
ost U.S. citizens their first chance to glimpse the
secret base. That same year, Robert Frost, a civilian employee at Area
51, dies. An autopsy shows that his
body contained high levels of
dangerous chemicals like dioxin, trichloroethylene and dibenzofuran. His
widow, Helen, files a lawsuit
against several government officials, claiming
her husband died as a result
of exposure to dangerous chemicals.
Area 51 acquires two locations popular w
ith tourists and curious locals. Freedom Ridge
and White Sides Peak. President Clinton signs an executive order exempting Area 51 from
legislation and investigation in order to preserve national security.
Area 51 is declassified, though all operations at the facility are still kept secret.
