The Interview
The personal interview with a consular officer and the
information provided in writing in the DS-160 are critical
elements in the process of visa. Due to the high number of
people applying for visas every day, interviews are usually short.
It is essential that the visa applicant describe clearly and
coherently their travel plans and provide accurate both when
completing the form as to answer questions at the time of the
interview responses.
inconsistent, inaccurate or not corresponding to the truth
answers make it harder for the consular officer to determine
that the proposed travel is temporary, or the visa applicant
qualifies for a visa.
For information on the documents to be submitted at the time of
the interview, please see our list of Required Documents.
Please note the following when presented for interview:

time of your interview. Visa applicants who arrive late will not be
allowed admission and should contact the Visa Information Center CSC Visa Information Center to request a new

POINTS TO CONSIDER
NOT LUCK
Luck has nothing to do with the outcome of your
interview. Consular officers make their decision based
solely on the law, regulations and policies of the US
Department of State.
THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERVIEW AND VISA APPLICATION
FORMS
The personal interview with a consular officer (if
required) and the information the applicant provides
written on visa application forms are critical elements in
the process of visa. Due to the number of people
applying for visas every day, interviews are generally
short.
FRAUD ALERT
The consequences of fraud are extremely serious. Not only is
exposed to permanently lose the opportunity to travel to the
United States, but may also be subject to legal sanction. The Form DS-160 (Application for Nonimmigrant Visa) contains the
following clause that the applicant must electronically sign:
- I certify under penalty of perjury under the Laws of the United
States of America, That the foregoing is true and correct."
- I declare under penalty of perjury consistent with the laws of the
United States that the above is correct and true."
If you have fraud related information you share with the Consular
Section, please send an email to the Fraud Prevention Unit [email protected].
visa rejections
Consular officers can only issue visas
nonimmigrant to those who qualify under the laws
of the United States. A visa may be rejected for
several reasons under the Immigration and
Nationality Act.
For example, your visa application may be denied
if you have a criminal record, if you lie during your
interview or if you have lived illegally in the United
States. Below is a brief explanation of the most
common types of rejection. For additional
information on visa refusals, Please see page
State Department Travel.
A consular officer will inform you always the visa
applicant of the reasons for refusal in writing.
Important Note: There is no process of appeal or review for a visa refusal. However, visa applicants may reapply at any time following the instructions in the How to Apply for a Visa.
Section 214 (b)
Most refusals of nonimmigrant are based on Section 214 (b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of the United States. Visa applicants outweigh the presumption immigrant under Section 214 (b) to demonstrate their general circumstances, both social and family, economic and other ties with Colombia require them to leave the United States after their temporary visit ends. "Links" all the different aspects are considered of life that bind the visa applicant with Colombia, such as family relationships, employment and property.
Because each applicant's situation is
different, there is no single factor that proves
a link with Colombia.
The most common reason for a visa applicant
not qualify to receive it is not showing
sufficient ties to their home country; however
there are other reasons why a person can not
qualify for nonimmigrant status and therefore
to be found inadmissible under Section 214
(b). The applicant must demonstrate that he
or she meets the requirements established
for the type of visa you are applying for. In
other words, the applicant must demonstrate
that activities to be undertaken during their
stay in the United States are consistent with
immigrant status you requested.
A visa refusal under Section 214 (b) is not
permanent. Visa applicants may apply at any
time following the instructions on the How to
Apply for a Visa. However, we recommend
that you do so only if they believe they can
show who are eligible to receive a visa based
on the requirements provided in the
aforementioned page. That is, we
recommend not applying for a visa again if
your family, professional or economic
situation has not changed enough to warrant
a change in the decision of the consular
officer.
If the letter informs the visa applicant to the
Embassy will contact you once an
"administrative process" ends this means that
the visa applicant need not make any
additional procedure. The Embassy will
contact you directly once you have completed
the administrative process. Most of these
processes are answered within 90 days after
the date of the interview, but in some cases it
may take longer. You can check the status of
your application, following the instructions
found on our website Application Status.
Section 221 (g) Administrative Process
