LOCATION & GEOGRAPHY

The Incas live up high in the Andes of Peru, the Incas started their civilization in the 13th century in a town they called Cuzco.

The geography of where the Inca lived was very harsh. They lived in and along the Andes Mountain range. The Andes Mountains are second in height and harshness only to the Himalayas

GOVERNANCE/ROLE OF LEADERS

Cuzco was the central capital of the Inca Empire from which where the Sapa Inca ruled from.

The Inca Empire was separated into four sections together known as 'Ttahuantin-suyu' or "land of the four sections" each ruled by a governor or viceroy called 'Apu-cuna' under the leadership on the central 'Sapa Inca'.

The empire was split to decide who would be Inca Hanan and who would be Inca Hurin (Hanan and Hurin represent the families of the higher parts of the city (Hanan) and those of the lower parts (Hurin)

commanders. The quipucamayoc- the Incan accountants.

Crime virtually never existed due to the massive wealth of the empire.

The lowest crime was stealing but higher crimes varied from murder to using a gods name in vain to adultery. If you were to perform the crime of stealing a hand or foot would be cut off, but if you were to perform a higher crime such as murder you be thrown of a cliff.

ECONOMY

The Inca empire had an economy based on exchange and taxation of luxury goods and labour

The Inca’s mined gold and silver and after they mined they smelted it to make money. Gold was called ‘Sweat of the Sun’ and silver was called ‘Tears of the Moon’. Money was made through hard work for the king and work in the community.
