Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our 2013-2014 KPREP results were announced in an earlier edition of this newsletter. This week I will be
sharing EXPLORE results, but before I do let’s review what EXPLORE is. EXPLORE is an assessment in the
ACT family taken by 8th grade students during the fall season of the school year. Students are assessed in
Reading, English, Math, and Science. Individual student results of the EXPLORE test are reported by a
comparison of the student score to a benchmark for each of the assessed areas along with an overall composite
score. Please click here for a brief video of Ms. Erica Thomas, school counselor, explaining EXPLORE.
A benchmark is a score that ACT has identified as the minimum ACT college readiness assessment score
required for students to have a high probability of success in credit-bearing college-level course. ACT has set
the following scores as benchmarks -
English 13
Reading 16
Mathematics 17
Science 18
Eighth grade students received their individual scores today along with their 2nd Trimester Progress Report.
Our school-wide composite score is 15.7 which is above the national average of 15.5. Please find the
individual content area scores and national comparisons below -
I am pleased that we are above the national average in all areas. Our students continue to rise to the
challenges set before them. I am very proud of all our students for the effort given during the various state
assessments throughout the year and specifically to our 8th grade students for their performance on this past
EXPLORE assessment for their scores shown above. GO CAMELS!
Sincerely, Jason Smith, Principal Campbell County Middle School
Content Area Campbell National
English 15.6 14.7
Mathematics 15.8 15.5
Reading 14.8 14.6
Science 16.8 16.6
Parents/Guardians,
The Campbell County School District encourages family and community involvement and welcomes visitors and support.
However, that must be balanced with maintaining school safety and security for all.
All schools are now equipped with a camera and buzzer system for entrance into the building. All exterior doors including
the doors entering the main office area are now locked during the school day.
Rather than entering CCMS using the far left door shown here with the yellow safe place sign as you have in the past, you
will now enter the door farthest right with the “Main Office” sign shown above. A camera and buzzer system has been in-
stalled on the column by this door.
Please press the “call” button to notify someone in the office of your presence. Someone from the office will ask you your
name and reason for visit. Once the office staff has verified the purpose of your visit, they will ask you to enter. All visi-
tors need to sign in and wear your visitor’s badge while in the school. You will be escorted to your meeting/destination.
Afterwards, visitors will be escorted back to the main office. Please remember to sign out prior to leaving.
We appreciate your understanding and assistance with these procedures. Maintaining a safe and secure learning environ-
ment for our students and staff is our priority. If you have any questions, please contact Jason Smith, CCMS Principal.
Respectfully, Jason Smith, Principal, CCMS
OTHER ITEMS
Do You Shop At Kroger?
Please take a few moments and follow the instructions on page six of this newsletter to setup your
account. This is an easy fundraiser for our students, school, and PTO that requires no selling of items by
students. Kroger donates a percentage of what your spend to the CCMS PTO. Donations received
directly benefit our students with special activities such as student incentives for state testing, behavior
incentives, school-wide student cookout, etc. The PTO is very excited and happy to partner with
KROGER! Please see the handout flyer included in this newsletter and/or contact Christy Eby or Evelyn
Dietz, PTO President and Vice President, for more information!!!
Watchdog Dad Program
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Christie Henson, Assistant Principal. Both half and
full day opportunities are available. Our volunteers monitor the halls, supervise lunch, and assist teachers
in the classroom. We are very excited to have this program off the ground and look forward to expanding
it even further.
To participate, you must have an approved background check and be on the district volunteer list. Please
see Goldi Lakes, attendance secretary, in the main office to receive paperwork for a background check.
Governor’s Cup Competitions
Governor's Cup District Competitions will be on Tuesday, Jan. 13 for the Composition & Future Problem
