How to Search

1. To search, type your term or phrase into the search box.

2. Your search results will come from the databases within Bloomsbury Fashion Central that your institution has access to.

1. After you have run a search, you will be directed to a search results page. The number of results will display at the top of the page.

2. The default number of search results is 25 items. You can change this to 50 or 100.

3. If your subscription contains images these will display at the top of the page and text and video results will appear underneath. Click “View the image results” to open a results page that contains only image results.

4. Text search results indicate the type of content in a grey box on the right-hand side, e.g. ‘Book chapter’, ‘Encyclopedia entry’.

6. Use the filters on the left-hand side of the search results to refine your search. Selecting a filter will reduce the items in the results to content tagged with that term.

5. You can see which database each result belongs to under ‘Source’ in the bibliographic details.

Advanced Search

To access advanced search, click on ‘Advanced search’ to the right of the main search box.

You can use Boolean operators here, i.e. AND, OR. Enter a term in the search box, then click ‘Add row’ and select ‘AND’, ‘OR’, or ‘NOT’; then enter the second term. For example, entering ‘African’ AND ‘dress’ will return only content related to African dress, whereas entering ‘African’ OR ‘dress’ will return content related to African and content related to dress.

You can also restrict your search to a specific time period of publication by entering dates into ‘Publication dates’ or ‘Online publication dates’.

1. At the bottom of each content page, you will see related images, text, and videos. Previews of related images on Bloomsbury Fashion Central will be visible. You can also view all related images by clicking “View all image results.”

TimelineThere are three different timelines available on Bloomsbury Fashion Central. To access any of the timelines, click on Timeline and choose from the drop-down menu.

1. Browse by year or time period.

4. Pins are arranged by theme. Each one offers details on other events happening around the world.

2. Images along the timeline offer a visual insight into the time period. Details are provided under each image when clicked into.

3. In two of the timelines, silhouettes are offered, allowing you to peak into dress of the period.

Saving and Folders

Sign up for a personal account in order to save content to your folders for later.

1. You can save content into folders that you can name and edit yourself. You can also create multiple folders and save different content into each one.

2. To access saved content, click on the drop-down menu for your account and then click “My Content.”
