Site: Students were free to choose a site around the North Carolina State University campus or Raleigh. If the site was not on campus, transportation for the shelter would have to be considered.

Objective: Create a bike rack and/or shelter that improves the quantity and quality of available bike parking in Raleigh or on campus. For the shelter students were asked to consider weather and theft protection for bikes, but also the bike shelter’s contribution to the built environment which included overall aesthetics, ease of use and space consumption. It was desired that the bike shelter provide added amenities to the community such as seating and shade.

Schedule and Budget: The project needed to be complete by Monday, April 25th and needed to be on a budget of around $50 per person for the group of 8 ($400).

Organization: Students were allowed to develop multiple designs individually or in small teams. At a mid-project meeting students voted on a few alternatives to mock up at full scale.
