I am not ashamed of the Good News, because it is the power God uses to save everyone who believes—to save the Jews

first, and then to save non-Jews. The Good News shows how God makes people right with himself—that it begins and ends with

faith. As the Scripture says, “But those who are right with God will live by faith.”

Romans 1:16-17 (NCV)

Sympathy

“God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that

whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. God did not send his

Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.”

John 3:16-17 (NCV)

On that day Jerusalem will be told,    “Don’t be afraid, city of Jerusalem.

 Don’t give up.The Lord your God is with you;

the mighty One will save you.He will rejoice over you.

You will rest in his love;    he will sing and be joyful about you.”

Zephaniah 3:16-17 (NCV)

Christ himself was like God in everything.    But he did not think that being equal

with God was something to be used for his own benefit.

But he gave up his place with God and made himself nothing. He was born as a

man and became like a servant. And when he was living as a man, he humbled

himself and was fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death

on a cross.

Philippians 2:6-8 (NCV)

Page 12: Experiencing the Gospel

Let us look only to Jesus, the One who began our faith and who makes it perfect.

He suffered death on the cross. But he accepted the shame as if it were nothing because of the joy that God put before

him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne.

Think about Jesus’ example. He held on while wicked people were doing evil things to him. So do not get tired and stop trying.

Hebrews 12:2-3 (NCV)

MeditationsDo you believe God loves you even when He leads you through suffering, shame, and death? What comfort or privilege might God be asking you to give up for the sake of others? Can you see the joy that awaits us on the other side, if we will only keep on trying?

Sanctification

Page 15: Experiencing the Gospel

We can be sure that we know God if we obey his commands. Anyone who says, “I

know God,” but does not obey God’s commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if someone obeys God’s teaching, then in that person God’s love has truly reached its goal. This is how we can be sure we are living in God: Whoever

says that he lives in God must live as Jesus lived.

I John 2:3-6 (NCV)

You were taught to leave your old self—to stop living the evil way you lived before. That old self becomes worse, because

people are fooled by the evil things they want to do. But you were taught to be made new in your hearts, to become a

new person. That new person is made to be like God—made to be truly good and

holy.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NCV)

Meditations

Do you believe God’s commands are truly motivated by His love for you?Are there aspects of your old self you are reluctant to give up?Are you becoming more like Jesus?
