Climate change changes everythingMeeting goal

= significant change = significant change

Need to accelerate learning about making deliberate change happen

Experience• Highlighted that the process struggling with what the nature and

role of science should be;

• The credibility of science is assumed to depend on its ability to be ‘objective’, which limits engagement with questions about how to make change happen;

• Considerable debate about extent to which the process could be prescriptive. e.g. difference between identifying ‘options’ and exploring ‘approaches’;

• There were considerable misunderstandings about the nature of the social sciences, including how it can be rigorous.

Identifying solutions

Putting solutions into practice

Focus on ‘evidence’ from past studies

Focus on modelling future pathways

Focus on innovation, learning by doing

Present

Driving forward while looking in the rear view mirror

Evidence based perspective

Focus on learning, innovation, creativity &

imagination

Views time as the future coming from what has already been

Views time as flowing to what is coming to the present
