NME is the name of a rock based magazine with the letters standing for New music express. Shortened to NME as it is quicker more punchy and easier to understand. The abbreviation when read aloud sounds like the word enemy. This will appeal to the target audience of the magazine who are the types of people who enjoy rock and heavy metal music, these people may tend to be dangerous and rebellious therefore can relate to the word.

Kerrang is the name of the next magazine and the name has been chosen as the word symbolises the sound of a chord being strummed on a guitar. Therefore this would attract those into music as they would know the meaning of the word therefore instantly be able to relate the magazine to music. The title also includes an explanation mark at the end which could intend the magazine focuses on loud music, perhaps rock.

This is very simplistic and easy to remember however the magazine used to be called ‘Cue’ relating to the music term of cueing the music, therefore consumers would be able to relate the magazine to music instantly. The change to Q would prove beneficial as it is much more simplistic and memorable for consumers therefore making it stand out more in shops. The use of the capital letter gives off the sense that it is a big magazine and successful.
