• Excellent model for understanding early organogenesis of human embryo, as well as other mammalian species.

2 major differences:– External morphology: Length of tail – much

longer in pig– Internal morphology: development of kidney –

much greater in pig

• Total gestation period in pig = 4 months

• 10 mm 20-21 days development

• 10 mm contains the rudiments of essentially all adult structure.
