Transcript of Executive Director - Red Mountain Theatre...
Oh my, how I adore this show! The music, the costumes, the poignant story – it’s such a remarkable piece of musical theatre. In this crazy, chaotic world of ours, Dreamgirls is a beautiful ESCAPE! And, don’t we need it? Just sit back and enjoy every breath-taking, fun moment.
Speaking of fun, I hope you’ve made plans to join RMTC this summer for TWO larger-than-life mainstage shows at the Dorothy Jemison Day Theater. Fiddler on the Roof is up first in the month of June. There are few shows as perfect in their composition and universal ap-peal than this one. Don’t miss out on the tradition! Then, in July, we’ll dance into the DJD with Disney’s Newsies. This mu-sical mirrors the hit film almost exactly with big dance numbers and power-ful songs as the little guy fights for his place in the world. You’re gonna leave inspired!

RMTC is continually expanding our reach and impact in the Birmingham community – and even the state of Alabama. But, this growth must be fueled with fiscal stability and long-term sustainability. To that end, RMTC has established a planned giving initiative named for an incredible woman, Carolyn King, who gave generously to RMTC during her lifetime and also planned for those gifts to continue past her time on earth. She was a blessing to so many and now serves as a shining example of dedication to the generations to come. The Society that bears her name is comprised of those who have included RMTC in a will retirement plan, charitable lead trust, charitable remainder trust, or life insurance policy that contributes to RMTC upon their passing. Won’t you join these donors in planning now for RMTC’s vital work into the future? Contact RMTC’s development office for more information. If you have made those plans, please let us know. We’d be grateful to include you in the Society!

Stephen Fister (Technical Director and Resident Scenic Designer) is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. Stephen has been working in theatre since his freshman year of high school. He began his professional career at Southeast Missouri State University, where he worked on a BFA in Design/Tech and Acting/Directing with a musical theatre emphasis. After moving to Birmingham in fall of 2009, Stephen initially joined the RMTC team as an over hire painter in the summer of 2010.
Amy Rankin (Resident Costume Designer). I started sewing at an early age because everything I bought I had to alter. While climbing the corporate ladder, I continued to design and sell clothing and jewelry. I was offered a job to tour with an R&B artist, which led to 20+ years working in Wardrobe, touring the United States and internationally. It afforded me the opportunity to visit some great places and work with some awesome talent. In 2007, wanting to come off the road, I took on the challenge to costume Beauty and the Beast for RMTC. Over the ensuing years, I have cultivated my talents to evolve into the RMTC Resident Costume Designer.
Patrick MacDonald (Resident Sound Designer/Engineer) is thrilled to be joining the team at Red Mountain Theatre Company! Patrick previously worked as the Sound Designer & Supervisor at the Adirondack Theatre Festival and the Sound Technician/A2 at Porthouse Theatre. He recently graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a minor in Performing Arts Administration. While at WKU, Patrick served as Sound Designer/Engineer, House Manager, Event Coordinator, Master Electrician, and Projection Designer. Favorite design credits include: A Comedy of Manors, Home, Everything In It’s Place: The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers, and The Hatmaker’s Wife.
Danielle Warren (Prop Master/ Deck Manager) Danielle graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in Theatre. While at UM, she worked as props master on shows such as The Rocky Horror Show, Cabaret, and High Fidelity: The Musical. She is active with Montevallo Main Street Players where she is also a board member. Danielle worked as props master on the web series Bug Spoon and just recently on the film I Can’t Breathe.
Heather Hood (Head Wardrobe) Heather’s mother was a beautiful seamstress but died when she was very young. Heather’s bedroom was her sewing room, so at night, she taught herself how to use her sewing machine. She continued to sew and accidentally ended up with a degree in Costume Design and Clothing, Textiles and Design. After taking a break from theatre, moving to the beach, opening several stores, Heather moved to Birmingham and eventually landed in the costume shop at Red Mountain Theatre Company. So, here she is sewing again.
Tommy Thompson (Wig Master) is proud to be the Wig Master/Hair and Make-up designer for Red Mountain Theatre Company. He began designing for RMTC in the spring of 2014 with La Cage aux Folles. Other credit include Les Miserables, Miss Vulcan 1939, Young Frankenstein, The Wiz, Mary Poppins, The Secret Garden, Sister Act, and The Little Mermaid. He also works with the young actors in the RMTC Conservatory in the use of wigs and make –up as they develop their craft. When he is not working on a Red Mountain Theatre Company show, Mr. Thompson is the Company Manager at Opera Birmingham.
