Memo for Executive Committee and Board of Directors From: Eddie McBride, President and CEO Date: September 14, 2018 Subject: Program of Work and Division Reports Business Advocacy—Vice Chairman Dave Marcinkowski Issues Management • The U.S. Department of Labor has settled with plaintiffs in our efforts to fight changes to

union persuader regulations and will not object to the permanent, nationwide injunction remaining in place. DOL has also agreed to reimburse a portion of attorney’s fees for the law firms who provided pro bono service to the plaintiffs.

• The Lubbock Chamber recently spoke before Lubbock City Council to express support of the proposed FY 2018-19 budget. Government Relations Committee Chairman Kody Bessent and President/CEO Eddie McBride provided remarks.

• The Chamber has launched a Voter Registration and Education effort in increase the number of registered voters in Lubbock County before the November election. Information is being distributed through various Chamber channels and at Chamber events. The Chamber is also partnering with Texas Tech and LCU, among others, as part of the effort.

Government Relations • With the incumbent’s encouragement, the Chamber is coordinating a District 19

Congressional Debate on October 22. The event will be televised, and other details are being worked out.

• The Chamber recently met with Congressman Jodey Arrington and his staff regarding Association Health Plan rules and the possibility of having Congress make the rule into permanent law.

• The Chamber’s State of the Texas Tech University System Luncheon will be held October 16 at the Helen Devitt Jones Sculpture Court. The event will feature Interim Chancellor/TTUHSC President Tedd Mitchell and Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec.

Agriculture & Natural Resources • The Committee this month received an Expo Center update from Randy Jordan. Transportation • The Committee this month discussed the upcoming Public Meeting for the Bicycle and

Pedestrian Master Plan to be held on September 27. The committee also discussed the emerging rental scooter issue as well as the upcoming Ports to Plains Conference in Del Rio.
