We have just concluded a very successful nine days in Pueblo, Colorado establishing contacts with caterers, local seminar speakers, contacts with museums, and so on. Marty & Marion Marcum and Mike & Peggy Williams worked for three days to put together a parking plan. They did an extensive inventory of the available sites and details about the facilities that are available.

It appears that there are about 421 total 50 amp sites with about 179 of those being full hook-ups. Oddly enough, there are no 30 amp full hook-ups. The remainder of the sites are 30 amp with water. The sites with electric and water will have one pumpout provided. There are a total of about 614 sites with another area we can open up to handle even more rigs.

You will be happy to know that virtually all sites are level and on asphalt. A few are on gravel but there are no grass sites - hurray!

We can once again offer boon docking - there are two very large lots owned by the fairgrounds right outside of their gates. It is a large level gravel lot probably about the size of two football fields.

Since the Albuquerque Balloon Festival starts the day before the International Rally ends, we will be moving the International Rally ahead by one day to allow the Balloon Festival attendees to get there in time - it is a fairly easy one day drive from Pueblo to Albuquerque with the arrival date for the Balloon Fiesta being September 30th.

So, the International Rally dates are Sunday, September 25th through Thursday evening, September 29th and departure on Friday, morning, September 30th. Church services will be Sunday morning and opening ceremonies on Sunday evening September 25th. We will also have boon docking and early arrival parking. Keep a watchful eye out in the Happenings, the website and Konnection magazine for the latest details as they develop.

O n e v e r y e n j o y a b l e activity we did was attend a “Cowboy Church” in Westcliffe, Colorado - What an absolutely gorgeous place that was! When you opened the doors to come out of the church you see the beauty of the snowcapped Rocky Mountains in front of you! When we walked into the door we were warmly greeted by a lady who said she was from Hampton, Virginia and had lived there for years - it turned out that her husband worked at Langley AF base for 10 years

and I worked at NASA on the other side of the base! It is really a small world!

The people and church service were delightful! The sermon was delivered from the viewpoint of a cowboy’s life and it certainly had a different perspective - a lifestyle surrounded by natural beauty but facing many hardships and challenges.

We talked with the Pastor after the service and he agreed to come to Pueblo (about 50 miles away) with his Cowboy Praise band (and hopefully a cowboy poet) to deliver our Sunday Services at the fairgrounds. We think you will find it very inspirational - We have included some photos of the inside of the church.

We also scouted around for some tour opportunities and they are endless - Royal Gorge Canyon via train ride at bottom or gondola or zipline at the top, the Air Force Academy, Pike’s Peak (14,200 feet - the view and altitude takes your breath), Garden of the Gods, Cripple Creek with it’s Gold mine tours and Casinos, Olympic Training Facility, many museums in Pueblo, the Chile festival, and so forth. We reserved a day

for our golf tournament at Hollydot golf course - at the foot of the Rockies.

We once again hope to have training by Freightliner, Spartan, and hopefully Ford and an interesting array of seminar speakers, and hopefully a local high school Mariachi band to greet us as we register. As the first order of business, we have once again signed Mr. Bil Lepp - the West VA storyteller - you remember Buck, his train catching dog? He’s coming to see the Rockies - I bet he does not believe they can be higher that the West Virginia mountains....he had better bring oxygen.

As it turns out, it was more economical to rent the entire fairgrounds for our event so we have plenty of room for seminars and social gatherings. We are hopeful that the large event Hall will hold the motor Home demo units as well as our dining and entertainment activities.

While we were there, there was an AKC dog show going on so we talked to several vendors about our rally. Supposedly, there was a dog whisperer there, but we could not find him - the caterer said that last year she took her dog and learned quite a few new things about him - he actually did like his name “Gueedo”, his favorite color was purple, and he liked to watch TV, especially “Animal Planet”. We were going to have our dog JP analyzed, but we were afraid he would give the dog whisperer a migraine!

We have some great events before and after the rally - the Lewis and Clark Caravan before, and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and Grand Circle afterward - sign up for all and you will not have to cook for 2 months!

On our way home from Pueblo, we stopped at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds, the Tulsa Fairgrounds, and Sedalia Fairgrounds - each had their strengths and weaknesses as a future site for the NKK International....but more on that later.

Keep an eye on future issues of The Happenings as well as future issues of The Konnection for more updates on the International Rally. Reservations will begin in Mid-April.

What an adventure the past few weeks have been!! We have traveled to Pueblo, Colorado to begin to set up adventures for you in September 2016. We have really enjoyed getting to know the people, the town and the delicious food of the area. (Did you know that Pueblo green chilies are special?) More about that in a bit.

The last couple of months have been a roller coaster ride for us. We attended and had a great time with the Region 6 folks at their Regional Rally. What a great time with food, fellowship, and fun. Speaking of fun, we got to tour the only “Made in USA” football factory. But this is hard “hands on” work and all pro footballs are “Wilson made” right there. Many of the machines are very unique but old and much of the work is still done by hand. Just lacing and inverting those footballs takes such unique skills and powerful hands! One of the best tours for sure!

We are also the grandparents of a couple of football playing grandsons. You can bet I was doing my best in the baskets of “seconds” to pick up extra footballs to take home to my boys (can you tell I am a football fan?). We really enjoyed our visit to Region 6. The folks of Region 6 had a wonderful send off for Ron & Wanda.

This would be a good time to welcome Jerry & Phyllis Rose (10792-L) as the new Region 6 Directors. Jerry & Phyllis are past chapter officers and current Ohio State Directors, and have been active with the Klub for many years since joining in 2000. They have attended numerous International Rallies as volunteers and team leaders and have led several magnificent caravans for our NKK members. They will be leading the Grand Circle Caravan after our International Rally at Pueblo. We are currently seeking new Ohio State Directors.

Also welcome to Del & Lela Nordstrom (14168) who will begin their duties as the next Region 4 Directors as of January 1, 2016! Del & Lela have been active Klub members since 2003 having served in various leadership roles since then. They have attended most Internationals, State, and Chapter rallies since joining the NKK and have served on volunteer teams at the International for parking and registration, catering, vendors, and seminars. Please welcome them and be sure to step up to fill the void they will be leaving as the North Dakota/South Dakota state directors.

Also, a big thank you goes out to Everett & Julie Israel and Ron & Wanda Llewellyn for their excellent leadership as the previous Region 4 and 6 Directors.

We also spent time in Virginia Beach with the Virginia Wheels. It is always fun to be with our local folks. Indeed, a bit of rain did not deter us from having special times. Please check out the face book page for Region 5 and see the wonderful pictures. Personally, I discovered that I can really send a golf ball a great distance! Yep, but unfortunately, in Putt-Putt that is not an advantage! Thank you for a delightful week!

Now on to Pueblo!! Oh my.....we are talking Cowboy churches, El Pueblo Museum, Museum of American Values (Pueblo is the home of 4 medal of honor winners), Steel Industry Museum, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge (who will do that zip line with me?), Pikes Peak with special donuts at the top, Cripple Creek and gold mines and casinos. You can bet that Bob & I will sacrifice once again and test all the local eateries! However, something is happening to my southern taste buds. Oh my, have I ever become a fan of Pueblo green chilies. Yep, on my breakfast burrito, on my mashed potatoes, french fries.....and as a pizza sauce. YUM!! We had to do some special shopping to get extra sauce to take home.

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENINGBob & Bonnie Krieger (12508-L), International Directors

A special note – we have been able to obtain 54 sites for the Albuquerque Balloon Festival (registration will begin in February for this event)! That means many that will be attending the Pueblo International Rally will also probably be going to the Balloon Festival. The only problem is that the arrival parking day at the Balloon Festival is Friday, September 30th, which ordinarily would be the last day of the International Rally. To avoid that conflict, we are moving the International Rally ahead one day – the new International rally dates are Sunday, September 25th with the last evening of the International Rally being Thursday evening, September 29th, and departure on Friday morning, the 30th. Church services will be Sunday morning, September 25th, with the opening ceremonies that evening. Tours will be on Friday and Saturday September 23rd and 24th. We will once again have early parking and boon docking as an option. Registration will begin in mid-April. Stay tuned for further details in the next Konnection and upcoming Happenings.

Marty & Marion Marcum as well as Mike & Peggy Williams joined us in Pueblo to check out the parking for you in September, 2016. Thank you all for the magnificent job getting all the spots marked and organized. We had a delightful few days together going all over the fairgrounds and checking out those restaurants together.

We are now getting ready for the Tampa RV Super show and the reservations are going fast! We will return to the same place as last year. This year we will be doing our own parking and registration. We look forward to that and have called in extra volunteers to be sure that we get you parked in a timely manner. Once again, our wonderful Newmar Techs will be there, we will have our own tent, we will have our own Linda Feece!! You can be sure that the buildings will be full of vendors and North Trails will bring their finest Newmar coaches! Our plans are to have one or two seminars at the tent this year as well as chapter presentations and socials.

Our travels of the past couple of months have been curtailed due to the rapid decline in the health and wellbeing of my Mom, Rose. She passed on October 19, 2015 and is now in Heaven dancing with my Dad, greeting family and friends, and dancing with her new “Bling Wings”! Thank you for your prayers and support.

Have a wonderful and Merry Christmas! Spend valuable time with your loved ones!

Happy Trails…

My favorite words are possibilities, opportunities and curiosity. I think if you are curious, you create opportunities, and then if you open the doors, you create possibilities. Mario Testino

We believe ourselves to be curious cats…always looking for an opportunity. Why else would we take on the challenge of new opportunities, new ideas and new efforts?

Our first outings as your new Members-at-Large have been successful in giving us the opportunity to talk one-on-one with members, officers and region directors. We attend rallies and events to not only enjoy the experience, but to listen and hopefully be helpful to those we interact with.

After hosting our last Region 6 Rally, we traveled to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to join the Allegheny Kampers Chapter Rally. We were warmly greeted by all who attended and sincerely appreciate their efforts to include us in their events. We found them to be just as open and friendly as NKK members in other states…this is not really a surprise as we are finding that most that join the Newmar Kountry Klub are there for the long-lasting friendships that they gain from their rallies and special events.

We had to the opportunity to attend the Hershey RV Show in Hershey, Pennsylvania thanks to Ray & Mary Ann Houser (11008), who generously invited us to join them. RV One Superstores, Inc. had a great display and we spoke with several salespeople and Newmar officials.

One question that they brought up that has been heard before is, “Why is there a need for State Directors when there is only one chapter in the state?” Region 7 Directors, Bob & Jane Hadley, helped us with a response: State Directors have their own set of duties that if not done result in more work for the Region Directors and Chapter Presidents. In addition, State directors know their state and members, and can better evaluate their needs. The duties of the State Directors are found in the Officers Manual that each chapter has available to them. We encourage all members to review these duties to better understand the need for the position. Then we challenge members to step up and help within their state by volunteering as a State Director…there are many states needing your leadership!

Our curiosity also sent us to the Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia. New Region 5 Directors, Jim & Annabelle Repp (14869), and their co-hosts, Jim & Barb Watson (20238),

international members-at-large >> Ron & Wanda Llewellyn (16303-L)

did an outstanding job! The festivals, games, meals and entertainment were all enjoyable. The weather was warm days and cool nights…sounds like a lyric! Again, we had time to talk to several members and heard questions on how to entice new members to chapters, especially younger members. We don’t have all the answers yet, but would like to share your thoughts on this major concern of our chapter members. This has been a topic of discussion for many years of the International and Region Directors. Chapters are being challenged to grow their memberships, but are not sure what route to take. Here are a few generated responses:

• Offer a free membership to the chapter for the first year.

• Hold a new owners luncheon in a location central to new owners (meet and greet opportunity).

• Offer a discount or free rally fee for the first rally attended.

• Include events/attractions at your rallies that interest younger members.

• Invite members to directly contact new members. The Klub office and either the Region or State Directors usually send letters, but direct contact from a member who lives close to the new members is often rewarding.

• Develop joint rallies with other chapters (even across state lines).

These are just a few ideas that we have heard or witnessed. We are curious of what has worked for your chapter? Is there something you would like to try, but would like some input into your idea? First, we encourage you to talk with your chapter officers and members, then let your State Directors (or Region Directors if you don’t have a State Director) know your plan(s). Evaluate your results and report your successes. We hope to include success stories in future articles, so keep us informed, too.

Now that the winter months are upon us many of the Fulltimers have sought out warmer climates, or traveled to visit family. We do have true “snow birds” in our group who head into the snow for skiing. Fulltimers are a diverse and fun group of people.

Each of us has our own reasons for choosing this life style and our methods are as varied as the people within the group. Some of us have settled into our ‘winter’ digs, some are flipping a coin to turn left or right with no set plans. The October, Old West and High Sierra Rally which began in Lone Pine, California and then headed to the Sierras was a small but successful event. We thank the Bernstein’s for planning and hosting this event. Please check out the Events Calendar as there are Lunch/Breakfast meet ups. We are already looking forward to our celebration in Colorado in September 2016. Our 26th Annual Fulltimers Chapter rally and annual business meeting will be held in September, just before the International Rally. We are hard at work finalizing the details and celebration, look for more information in up coming issues of the Konnections. Our Facebook group page has been successful and several members have been able to meet up along the road. We hope to continue this trend. As Fulltimers we are spread across the North American continent and meeting up can be fun. This January our Vice Presidents, Paul and Marge Schiager will be at the “Gathering in the Desert” and we will will be at the Tampa RV Show and Rally. Make sure you stop and say hello. We are always open to questions about our lives on the road and informations about the Fulltimers Chapter. We wish you all a safe and healthy winter where ever you may travel.

Wow what a busy time we have had the past two months. After two rallies back to back in September we headed east to Albuquerque where we hosted the 2015 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta October 2-7. There were 13 rigs attending and we had a great time. We will be hosting again

next year. If you have had the Balloon Fiesta on you bucket list for a while, 2016 would be a great time for you to fulfill that one. Check out the other article in this issue we wrote on the Balloon Fiesta for some great news for those of you that have been holding out until 2016 because of the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado.

After the Balloon Fiesta we headed south a couple of hours to the New Mexico Chile Peppers Rally in Elephant Butte, New Mexico. This was Joe & Mary Ann Daniels first rally and they put on a great one. Like all Newmar rallies, there was no lack of food.

The following week we held our Region 1 Rally in Lake Havasu City, Arizona at Havasu Falls RV Resort attended by 18 motorhomes. Dinners included pizza and salad one night; roast pork and cheesy potatoes another night and our final night was barbecued New York Strip steak and baked potato with a wide variety of side dishes and desserts provided by the rally attendees. We chartered the big blue jet boat for a 2 hour cruise on Lake Havasu where we all got to see most of the lighthouse replicas along the shore of the lake. We enjoyed a performance of the musical “Grease” at Grace Arts Theater.

After a stop at Freedom RV in Tucson to get our main slide operating again, we headed on to the Arizona State Rally. At the Arizona State Rally, Ted & Ruth Ann also out did themselves as usual. The first night of the Rally we celebrated Thanksgiving. Just when you think rally food couldn’t possibly get any better, here comes Ruth Ann Hindes with a full spread, cooked from scratch mouthwatering Thanksgiving dinner! Ruth Ann cooked 4 turkeys, 10 pies from scratch plus mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green beans and more. WOW! They also arranged two really great tours for the group. The first was the “Boneyard” at Davis Montham AFB where we were able to view up-close hundreds of military fighter jets, transports, bombers and helicopters in mothballs. Over $30 billion (yes that is a B) in planes all parked in neat rows. The following day was a tour of the ASARCO open pit copper mine. They haul the copper bearing ore out of the huge pit in 340 ton trucks that are loaded with monstrous shovels with a 60 cubic yard bucket that holds an astonishing 80 tons per scoop.

After saying our goodbyes in Tucson we headed north to Pueblo, Colorado for a week to work on our parking and registration assignments for the 2016 International. The Colorado State

Fairgrounds is going to be a great venue for the International. We will have nearly 400 50-amp sites, many of which are FHU. For those of you that don’t get one of the 50-amp FHU sites don’t worry. All sites have water and you will get one pump out. All of us have holding tanks big enough that we can easily make a week on black and gray tanks with the pump out if we don’t take those long hot showers that we enjoy when we are “hooked up” in a RV Park. All sites are fairly level and should not require much blocking under the jacks. Boondocking will again be offered for those of you who want to arrive the night before your scheduled arrival date.

Something has happened that hasn’t happened since the dawn of time or at least in quite a while. Every State Director and Chapter President in Region 1 has scheduled their 2016 rally and it is only November 2015. Take a look at this impressive list of 2016 rallies. With so many rallies in 2016 we should bump into you at one or more of them.

ARIZONAArizona is surely our winter stomping grounds. Ruth Ann & I have spent winter months here since 2005 and always long for our return each fall. We love the southwest with its mountains and deserts. We use Tucson as our hub and travel the southwest each winter. If you haven’t tried the southwest we urge you to look into what it has to offer.

The next Arizona activity is the ‘Gathering in the Desert’, January 13-19 in Quartzsite, Arizona hosted by us and co-hosted by Peggy & Ed Owens. Help us beat the seventy coach attendance we had last January! See the details and register online using the NKK calendar.

The Arizona Sun Catchers NKK Chapter is the only Arizona chapter. It is growing each year. We just had our state rally in October co-hosted by Martha & Roy Willis and John & Cristi Cohn. There were twenty-six rigs attending with three guest non-NKK rigs of which I am sure we will get new Kountry Klub memberships. Our Sun Catchers secretary reported six new Sun Catcher memberships at this State Rally! This rally is during the

baseball spring training season and we always go see a ball game as part of the rally activities. Again, see the details and register online using the NKK calendar.

This winter season the breakfast in the Phoenix area will be in Gilbert hosted by Pat & Joe Goss. The Yuma Luncheon will be hosted by John & Nancy Alguire this winter. The Casa Grande breakfasts will be hosted by Tom & Carol Conerty and last but not least the Tucson luncheons will be hosted again by Martha & Roy Willis. Thank you to all our chapter officers and hosts to the monthly breakfasts and luncheons statewide! Please look in the NKK Calendar for the dates and attend. We hope to see you at one of them! CALIFORNIA This is hard to say BUT the year 2015 is almost over!! Take a minute to review what this year has been to you and your family…

The California Newmar family started in January with the State/Golden Aires Indio, California rally, there were 33 coaches, meals, seminars, tours, foot message, fun and games. Many of us went on to Quartzsite for a fun time in the desert.

April, the 49er’s rally in Gilroy, California had 30 coaches with many new owners attending. The tours were spectacular, meals, and seminars. This was Wayne & Charlotte Thomas first rally as president, they did a great job. Also thank you for the help from many members. September found 20 coaches in Sonora, California to celebrate the 15th birthday of the California Golden Bears. Five star meals, interesting tours, a stage play, members participated by fixing a dessert, cooking ribs and games after dinner.

As State presidents we are so blessed to have many members that volunteer, enjoy the rally by participating, give of their time to enhance the Newmar Kountry Klub experience. Many thank you goes to all.

Going on to 2016 - California has many new Newmar’s sold each month, the Klub, State and Chapters, sends letters and applications. We do have an average of 4 or 5 new owners at most rallies. We need to encourage new people to attend, volunteer and become part of the family.

Go on line to register www.newmarkountryklub.com Region 1, California, for the up-coming 2016 rallies:

CALIFORNIA 49ER’SHello again. Since our last article, we’ve seen some amazing details of the southwest thanks to the planning of three rallies that began the end of September. In addition to meeting people we’ve gotten to know and new people, this is one of the reasons why we particularly enjoy rallies. Who would think Elephant Butte was a place to stop other than its interesting name, but the Chile Peppers had us parking in a beautiful RV park situated on a mountain top next to the Elephant Butte Reservoir. Happy Hours took place on the club house outdoor patio that gave us a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Ever heard of Truth or Consequences? Well, it’s not just a TV game but a town filled with interesting shops. Obviously those who live there take advantage of the name and its history from the Indians to mining, which we learned about in a museum located there. We also went on a side trip of our own, driving an hour into the Arizona wilderness to Chloride, a

Page 18: Exclusive Magazine For Owners Of ... - Newmar Kountry Klub · 12/12/2018  · the Newmar Kountry Klub and may not be used for any other purpose without the written permission of the

Page 18 WWW.NEWMARKOUNTRYKLUB.COM DECEMBER 2015/JANUARY 2016

small mining town that housed 3,000 people at its height but was now down to 11. Luckily most of those 11 residents were highly involved in retaining and restoring this mining village’s buildings and its history, including a general store that had been locked up since 1923 with everything in it from canned goods to bustles when the owner shut the door and walked away.

Then it was on to Lake Havasu and the Region 1 Rally. Again, here’s a name on the map that becomes a fascinating area to visit because of the rally. As we drove through miles of cacti and rugged mountains, suddenly we saw lush green vegetation lining a strip of brilliant blue water – the Colorado River which backed up forming Lake Havasu. All so enjoyed the lake in various ways thanks to Region 1’s planning, such as the excellent two-hour boat ride listening to a guide who gave us interesting details about the area. These included models of light houses from all over the U.S. that local people had built to watching some crazy kids jump off of high rocks into the water of one of the beautiful inlets the boat took us into. Oh yes, and the London Bridge. What a shock to see it there. Its history, how it got there, and how Lake Havasu became a city from a small outpost in the desert are fascinating. Another major highlight was the fabulous presentation of the 70’s musical Grease that a local theater was presenting. It was as good as any Broadway show as these mostly high school kids so professionally danced, sang, and acted. Oh yes, the sets were also phenomenal including a car that was right out of that rock and roll late 50’s era. It literally popped out of the scenery. It wasn’t as big as a real car, but big enough to seat the two main actors who sat on it and sang of their love for each other.

Arizona State’s Rally was outside of Tucson in a lovely park set in the desert. Again, we were greeted with hugs and smiles from people we’ve gotten to know. Some were with us at Lake Havasu. The first dinner was incredible. A full Thanksgiving turkey feast complete with everything from platters of olives and pickles set on each table to the delicious side dishes of mashed white and sweet potato casseroles, to the green beans….and ah yes, the pies. What made this even more spectacular was that the wife and husband who headed this rally did all the cooking and baking. I had a chance to sit with her at the meal and was flabbergasted as she described how she, with a few others, did everything from roasting the turkeys, mashing the potatoes, to baking all those pumpkin to apple and berry pies. Unfortunately, due to a family need we had to leave the next day, but from what we saw of the schedule for the next few days, everyone there had a great time. It was hard to pull out of that RV Park in the morning as people headed to the clubhouse for a great breakfast.

So, three rallies, each in a beautiful and interesting place. Each carefully planned to take full advantage of the area. And each a wonderful opportunity to explore and experience some very interesting places we would probably never have seen before were it not for the rallies.

Speaking of rallies, make sure that you mark your calendar for April 25 – 29. This will be the California 49er’s rally in Buellton, California. This area provides so many places to see and experience like Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Solvang and many others. And we have reserved a wonderful park, Flying Flags RV Park in Buellton. See you there.Wayne and Charlotte Thomas (20075)Presidents [email protected]

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN AIRES We just got home from two great rallies in Arizona. The first was the Region 1 Rally put on by Marty & Marion Marcum held in Lake Havasu City. We had a great time including a two hour jet boat ride on Lake Havasu. We went to a production of Grease put on by the Grace Theater. After that we went to the Arizona State Rally put on by Ted & Ruth Ann Hindes. As always they put on a great rally, with trips to a copper mine, on old Indian mission, as well a bus tour at the Pima Air museum. We had only been home 10 days after going to the Nevada State Rally in Hurricane Utah. This rally was put on by the Zellers and was full of fun and food.

We will be hosting the Golden Aires Chapter Rally January 3-6 again just before the FMCA rally in Indio. It will be at Indian Waters RV Resort. We are planning to have a foot massage for the ladies or the guys if you want one. We will be having two seminars. One by Mike Vilencia of Pete’s Road Service and a second by Lloyd “Smitty” Smith from An RVer’s Friend. Please see the Calendar in the Konnection and online to register. We will need your money and your registration by December 1st. Have happy travels and Drive Safe.Mike and Gloria Bisson (19164)Presidents [email protected] (Mike) 619-672-0846 (Gloria)

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS Greetings from Northern California. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a fun time with Trick or Treaters and enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy this special time of year.

We have had a busy time this fall with rallies and family. We started with the Golden Bears 15th anniversary Rally in Sonora, California. We want to thank everyone who attended and participated and helped so very much. It was great to welcome the new members especially for helping out.

We want to thank Jim & Valerie McMillan for stepping up to be our Vice Presidents this year and to be the Presidents with Dalton & Jan Bilberry as their Vice Presidents after the combined State and Golden Bears rally next year. We also welcome Tom & Vickie Reed as our new Secretary/Treasurers. Volunteers are the only way the clubs can continue to function. Our thanks go to Larry & Judy Faller for being the Secretary/Treasurers and for all their help at this rally. We had a great time and hope everyone else did also. The forest fires in the area made the air quality awful but did not spoil our planned events.

Our thanks to George & Cheryl Zellers for the Nevada State Rally in Hurricane, Utah. It was a great time. Marty & Marion Marcum did a great job again as the hosts for the Region 1 Rally in Lake Havasu, Arizona. We loved spending time with our Newmar family.

The combined State/Golden Bears Rally next year is going to be held at the Almond Tree RV Park in Chico, California September 11-15. We hope to have people attend before heading to the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado

NEVADA What a fall we have had with our Newmar Kountry Klub family. The Nevada State Rally was held the latter part of September in Hurricane, Utah and we had great weather. Although the turnout was small, one couple was a first time Newmar Kountry Klub rally attendee. Another couple in the park was on their first long trip with their new Newmar Ventana. They were not aware of the Nevada State Rally being held in the park, but spent time with us as their schedule allowed.

From our rally, we checked an item off our bucket list by attending the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Once we were parked with the Newmar group, it was obvious that we had some of the best sites on the balloon grounds. The first launch of the balloons proved we were correct, with the balloons passing directly over us just a few feet in the air. In our Newmar group we had several new Klub members attending their first Klub event. It was nice to meet all the couples that attended and make the new members feel welcome. We want to thank our Kountry Klub hosts for the Balloon Fiesta, Marty & Marion Marcum (17221).

Leaving the Balloon Fiesta, we made a quick trip south to attend the Chile Pepper Chapter Rally hosted by Dr. Joe & Mary Ann Daniels (19182). Chile Peppers Rally was attended by three first time rally attendees. What great year for our Kountry Klub. We are thrilled that each of the new Klub members elected to support the Nevada Mother Lode Chapter by becoming members through their 2016 dues, THANK YOU ALL! We also thank all the members who have renewed their membership.

Looking ahead, the Nevada State Rally will again be held in the State of Utah. Our rally is scheduled for October 9-12 and be at the Spanish Trails RV Park in Moab, Utah. We ask that you contact the park directly to make your site reservations. The daily rate is $43.63 which includes all taxes if you are a Good Sam’s member. The park’s phone numbers are: Toll Free 1-800-787-2751 and Local 435-259-2411. Be sure to tell them you will be attending the Newmar Nevada State Rally. The rally is being held during their busiest time of the year so early reservations are definitely recommended. Will have more on the rally in the next Konnection and check our Klub calendar for additional information.

Wishing you smooth roads and following winds,Cheryl and George Zellers (19163)Nevada State [email protected]

We had a very enjoyable time attending all the Region 2 rallies this year, in spite of spending over 2 months recovering from surgery. Regret missing the International Rally in West Virginia but are planning on attending the 2016 rally in Pueblo. Attending and volunteering at rallies are a large part of our RV lifestyle and a good way to meet other RVer’s

as well as renewing friendships.

Volunteers make this Klub great! As 2015 comes to an end we want to thank our International Directors, Klub Coordinator, State and Chapter Officers as well as all the other volunteers for all their hard work.

We in Region 2 have several state and chapter positions that need to be filled. None of the open positions require much time or effort. Please consider volunteering and let us know if you are interested.

It’s been very warm down here in Yuma this winter but very pleasant when compared to the snow and cold up north. Hope there are no weather surprises as we travel to Florida where we plan to attend the Newmar Florida RV Supershow Rally in Tampa. Hope we meet many Newmar Kountry Klub members as well as renew old friendships.

If your travels take you near the southwest corner of Arizona this winter, Newmar Owners Luncheons will again be held on the first Tuesday of the months of November through April at what was called Mi Fajita and is now called Copper Miner (new owners and new menu). Check the calendar in the Konnection or the Klub web site for details.

Jan & I hope everyone had a very blessed Thanksgiving. We all have much to be thankful for - food, fun and fellowship, living the RV lifestyle, and traveling this great country of ours in our RV’s. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and safe travels in 2016! Please contact us with questions or to volunteer at 208-484-5443 or [email protected]

IDAHOIt is nice to be in Arizona for the winter. We came down a little too early and had several weeks of 100+ degree weather. That is too hot for us Idaho people. I have my garden planted here with tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, beans, jalapeno’s, radishes, dill and even some sunflowers.

We live in a 55+ community with about 2,500 homes, so most are retired. The community is putting together an RV Club. They have over 30 couples already signed up. It is interesting to see people from all over the United States talking about their experiences in their RV’s. We plan on going on camping trips for 2-3 days and within 150 miles. It should be interesting. The amazing thing is

REGION 2 // AK, ID, MT, OR, WA, WY

Region Directors :: Frank & Janice Hasman (17704)

that many people volunteered to be officers of this Club. So lots of excitement and ideas.

We are still exploring ideas for our State Rally in 2016. It will be in Cascade. Ideas that we are exploring now is a train ride along the Payette River, a caravan to the top of West Mountain, and a nice dip in a hot springs in the middle of the forest. We will have more information in the next Konnection. So, stay tuned. It should be another great rally!!!Terry and Linda Garrett (18233)Idaho State Directors

OREGONMarie & I really had a busy summer this year. First was our joint rally with Region 2 in La Grande, Oregon then we were off to the International in Lewisburg, West Virginia. We helped out Region 2 Directors, Frank & Jan Hasman, who were not able to make the International. We took their place as Region 2 Directors and had a great time doing it, not that we didn’t have our moments with that job as well.

Then we made our way back across the country stopping along the way to see the sights and rest up from the rally. Our travels brought us to Northern Idaho where we attended the Idaho State rally at Sandpoint, Idaho. It was fun seeing all our Idaho friends again. Following that rally we enjoyed the good food and friends at the Washington State Rally in Kennewick, Washington. There is a new RV park there, Columbia Sun RV Resort, and it was very nice indeed. The owners did a great job making all us Kountry Klub folks feel welcome.

After returning to Portland we spent time working on our rally for next year which will be held Sept 7-9 in Florence, Oregon at the Pacific Pines RV Resort. Mark your calendar so you can join us. Then we’ll head east to Pueblo, Colorado for the 2016 International. That should be a real winner as I believe the rally is during their annual Chili Festival.

We want to wish everyone safe travels wherever your road made take you this fall/winter and have a Happy Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas, keeping in mind the real reason we are celebrating the holidays.Ross and Marie Turney (15097)Oregon State Directors

WASHINGTONHere it is, the last day of October and we are writing a letter for the December/January magazine. We had the Washington State Rally earlier this month with 18 rigs attending. We had great fellowship, great food and met some new members. Some of the newer members stepped up to the plate and completed the roster of officers for the Evergreen Aires. It is very heartwarming to see new members willing to volunteer their time to keep the Klub running.

We are planning next year’s rally and it will be in Clarkston, Washington at the Granite Lake Premier RV Resort. The dates will be July 11-14. We are just starting to work on this rally, so we will have more information in the future.

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for. We also hope you will have a blessed Christmas and a great New Year. For those of you that go south for the winter, please try to attend either the breakfasts or lunches put on in the various areas. You will find these listed in the “Calendar of Events” section of the magazine.Jim and Cheryl Witherspoon (10282)Washington State Directors

We are finally getting a little rest after a very busy summer. After we left the International Rally we went on the Newfoundland Caravan. It was a beautiful, well planned caravan. The trip was one of many adventures, including a long overnight voyage on a ship, an evening at the musical, a trip to the potato farm and even an afternoon at the bagpipe school.

The people of the Maritime Provinces are some of the most friendly folks we ever met. If it was a question of directions, a copy of a recipe, or just a smile they were great.

We did not have much time to sightsee after the caravan, because we had to host the Region 3 rally in Texarkana, Texas. We had 25 rigs at the rally and we all enjoyed the new facility of the Texarkana R.V. Park. The owners have 3 great daughters with unbelievable singing talent. They were gracious enough to come to the rally hall one night and sing for us. We were also entertained by a local musician and we all enjoyed his ability to play anything we requested.

We took a tour of the Mayo furniture factory. The owner and employees were all informative and pleasant. We had a firsthand look at the production and quality of the beautiful furniture. We also took tours of the local museums, the Perot Theater and the Ace of Clubs house. This area is so rich in history. We hosted the Christmas in Branson again this year. We had 13 rigs. We had a list of many great shows to see and one day at Silver Dollar City. We enjoyed meeting the new friends and reuniting with the people we already know.

We are planning to go to the Tampa super show in January, and hope to see many of you there. Where ever your travels take you this winter we hope it is a great and safe trip. Have a great holiday season with family and friends. May each of you receive the Joy and Peace of Christmas and keep Christ in Christmas and throughout the year.

ARKANSASAs fall approached in our area, eighteen rigs from Arkansas and Oklahoma went on an adventure to our Rally at Cedar Oaks RV Resort, Grove, Oklahoma. Activities included

REGION 3 // AR, KS, LA, MO, OK, TX

Region Directors :: Larry & Katie Harrington (17407-L)

pelican watching on Grand Lake, shopping, great food, lots of games and wonderful tours of the Coleman Theater and Har-Ber Village Museum. Thank you, Ruth Ann & James Hairston for another great rally.

The Arkansas Christmas Luncheon will be December 5, 2015, from 1 to 3 PM at Smokin in Style BBQ, 2278 Albert Pike, Hot Springs, Arkansas. The festivities will include a dirty Santa gift exchange. Hope to see everyone there.

The 2016 Arkansas State Rally will be at the Magnolia RV Park in Magnolia, AR for the 28th Annual Magnolia Blossom Festival and 27th Annual World Championship Steak Cook-Off. Save the dates: May 19-22! Hey snowbirds this might be a good stopover on your way north from warmer to cooler weather. Watch the Konnection for more information.

Our next Arkansas Razorback Kountry Klub Rally is planned for Mountain View RV Park, Mountain View, AR. Save the dates: October 13-16.

Our prayers go out for several of our members and friends, who have had or will be having surgeries this fall. We wish you a speedy recovery. God bless each of you!

Best wishes, Happy Holidays, and good health to all.Diane and Dennis Wood (18727)Arkansas State Directors

KANSASThe calendar is nearing the end of October, and our grandchildren have all been back in school for almost three months. Most of them live close enough to Sherry & me, that we have been able to attend many of their volleyball, football, and music events. Our oldest granddaughter, Kylie, is 22. She is an LPN and attending college to become an RN while working two part time nursing jobs at the same time. Needless to say, we are very proud of her as well as our other four grandchildren, but enough about family. What about the Newmar Kountry Klub?

Due to schedule conflicts and medical problems, Ron & Nancy Flaherty and Sherry & I were the only ones from the Kansas Kountry Sunflower chapter who were in attendance at the Region 3 Rally at Texarkana, TEXAS. Larry & Katie Harrington always host a great rally, and this one was no exception. The Food and activities were very enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the tour of the Mayo Furniture Factory. It is a 3rd generation family owned corporation. The company has over 140 employees and one of the tour guides was a grandson and one of the current owners.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the Texarkana RV Park. It is a new park with great rally facilities. Ralph & Tammy McDowell are the owners and they bent over backwards to help Larry and Katie with anything they needed. Sherry checked out the RV parks’ website and they have pictures from the Region 3 rally showing some of our rigs. The McDowell’s also have three very talented daughters who entertained us with their singing and playing. They are Krystal, Klaira and Katie, and the name of their band is “Kosmic Girlz Band”. A search of the band name on the web will bring up their story and YouTube performances, check them out.

On November 14 the Kountry Sunflowers had a Drive-in Luncheon at the Montana Mikes Restaurant in McPherson, Kansas. This

Luncheon was not on the Klub “Calendar of Events” and only recently was planned. We will report on it in the next Konnection.

Many of our Kansas Chapter members continue to deal with lingering health problems, and our prayers go out to them with the hope that they may soon return to healthier times and be able to more fully enjoy their Newmar RVs.Larry and Sherry DeWitt (11440-L)Kansas State Directors

MISSOURIAs you read this article, Missouri has completed another year of wonderful rallies. The State Rally was completed in September with 11 units in attendance. After a week at home we headed for Texarkana, Texas for the Region 3 Rally. A good time was had by all. Missouri was well represented with six units from the Mid-MO Wanderlusts.

After the Region Rally we continued on to our winter designation in Florida, arriving the middle of October. Now that we are settled we will start working on the 2016 State Rally which will be in July, with the International Rally in September. We have reserved the Pin Oak RV Park, Union, MO and will get the announcement in the next Konnection with the schedule and cost.

Will leave you all with a wish for a Merry Christmas. We hope you all have safe travels and we will see all next rally season.Harold and Joyce Fiebelman (13813-L)Missouri State Directors

OKLAHOMAWhat a summer. After the State Rally in June we were off to Spartan to have the motor home serviced. Then it was to Nappanee. After we thought everything was up and running it was on to Lewisburg, West Virginia, for the International Rally where we met up with old friends and made new ones. After the International it was off to Bangor, Maine, where we met up with 20 other rigs to start the Caravan through New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island. After 49 days the caravan was over and Larry had to go to Texas to help close down a business we were part of.

We are sorry we missed the Region 3 Rally in Texarkana and the joint Rally with Arkansas at Grove, Oklahoma. We have received word that a great time was had by all who attended.

The Okie Kountry Klub had a Fall Luncheon at Chava’s Mexican Restaurant in Yale November 14th. Everyone got their fill of Good Mexican Food. The Luncheon was the last activity for this year. We are working on the 2016 schedule at this time.

Patsy & I want to wish each of you a Blessed and Safe Christmas. Remember “Christ is the reason for the season”.

May God bestow his blessings on each of you.Larry and Patsy Wood (12255-L)Oklahoma State Directors

MISSOURI MID-MO WANDERLUSTSIf you missed the Missouri State Rally in September, you missed a great one! The rally was September 16 – 20, at the Ozarks Mt. Spring RV Park, Mt. View, MO. We had eleven rigs in attendance.

The weather was nearly perfect and a good time was had by all. Several outstanding meals were catered in the clubhouse at the park.

One day the ladies had a wonderful catered lunch and shopped in local antique and flea markets while the men played golf. One day the women made crocheted necklaces or Origami boxes and the men had a bean bag tournament. Another day we toured the Summerville Mill and Alley Spring Mill and had very knowledgeable guides telling us the history of the mills. We also had a box lunch at the picnic grounds at Alley Spring. Most evenings were spent playing games at the clubhouse. The club was happy to welcome new members, Doug and Yvette Kinney, Grain Valley, Missouri.

As this is written our November Luncheon will be Thursday, November 12, 2015, 1:00 p.m., at Carthage Country Club, Carthage, Missouri. Dale and Judy Daniel (19097)President and Secretary

TEXASHello Friends, Does anyone else wonder where the year went? It seems the more chronologically gifted we become the faster time passes. What has become clearer over the years is that it is not how much time we have but rather how are we spending that time!

How blessed we are to have so many friends who share our love of the road, fellowship, and are so willing to share their time, treasure and talents. Suzanne & I have decided to resign as Texas State Directors at the end of this year. Suzanne & I want to give a special “thank-you” to all of you that have volunteered to help make this an amazing four years. We look forward to helping our new leadership team and seeing y’all at rallies down the road. Below is a note from our Kountry Lone Star South Chapter President, Bob Heeney. Bob represents the best in our volunteer organization.

As we prepare for another Holiday Season and bring about the end of our rally season. I’d like to thank all of our Newmar Family for their support and understanding through my first year as your President. I would like to recognize our new members Jim & Lynn Counts and Mark & Sherrie Watkins. I hope you can find and answer the question many of us older member have had. Why do I look forward to visiting with this group of people of which I have little in common and I only see 3 to 5 times a year? I think it might be that we each have something to contribute to the overall success of the group. I can tell you that when someone is missing from the group I look for a way to fill the void with very little success. Each member plays and important part in our family. My point is, if you have been missing, please let us know if we can make a difference and bring you back.

In closing, we would like to wish all of our Texas Members and all Newmar International Members a Safe, Happy and Joyous Holiday season.Danny and Suzanne Reid (19436)Texas State Directors

2016 GRAND CIRCLE CARAVANYes we are planning to bring it back. What better time to do a Grand Circle Caravan than immediately following the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. The caravan is in the planning stages at the time we are writing this article but here is a little insight into what we hope will happen.

We are looking at 18-19 days visiting some of the most beautiful and interesting sights in our opinions in the US. Jerry & I have traveled extensively in the US and one of our favorites is the area called the “Grand Circle”. We will be in Colorado, Arizona and Utah. Some of the sights we hope to include but not necessarily limited to are: The Mesa Verde Cliff Palace, where 800 years ago tens of thousands of people once lived. Let’s travel up to Silverton on a bus tour and take the train back down to Durango seeing the absolutely gorgeous Aspen trees in there gold shimmering beauty. How about a 4x4 tour of Monument Valley, and visiting the North rim of the Grand Canyon, a Boat tour of Lake Powell, touring Zion, and Bryce National Parks. We plan to end the caravan in Moab where we will take in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. We are planning a couple of free days where you can visit more sights in some of these areas or just take the day to rest.

We must warn you that there will be extensive walking and not always on flat, level, or paved surfaces.

We are trying to get all campgrounds with full hook up but may only have 30 amp service at one or two campgrounds. This should not be a problem as it should be cool weather and running air conditioners all day should not be an issue.

We are really looking forward to sharing our favorite places with you. If all goes as planned the rally ad will be in the February issue as well as opened for reservations on the website in mid-February.

We hope you plan to join us.Jerry and Phyllis Rose (10792-L)2016 Grand Circle Caravan Leaders

MINNESOTAGreetings from Minnesota. Another camping season has come and gone in Minnesota. We had a wonderful time camping with the “Minnesota Loons”. We have a great Chapter. However the highlight of our camping experience this year was a family outing in Door County, Wisconsin with our children and grandchildren. We had a 3-year-old boy, a 5-year-old girl, and a 10-year old girl in the Motor Home with us. The others were tenting or in a hotel. We went swimming in the Lake, went hiking, went to a petting Farm, went down water slides, and saw beautiful scenery. I got exhausted! Pete went fishing and boat riding with the older kids.

The Minnesota Loons are looking forward to a winter in warmer climates. We are also planning fun for next summer.

As usual we are starting our camping season at the Saint Cloud Campground, May 2-5. Pete & Joan Neururer will be the hosts. In June Ray & Joyce Korsten are hosting a getaway in Two Harbors. The dates are June 6-9.

We are then traveling to Bemidji July 14-17. Hosts are Frank & Jeanette Shereck and Wayne & Shereyll Torgerson. We are looking forward to a great time at the “Arts in the Park” and the “Wood Tick Theater” along with other activities.

He l lo Everyone. Af ter a beautiful fall back home at Lake Thunderbird in Illinois we headed south on October 18 for Clerbrook RV Resort in Florida. We arrived safely after four days on the road. Activities are in full swing here and it is always great to see all our friends again.

As most of you know this is our last year serving as Regional 4

Directors. It has been a wonderful experience! We really enjoyed it! We congratulate Del & Lela Nordstrom volunteering and replacing us as Regional 4 Directors. We know they will do an outstanding job.

We want to take time to say a very big thank you to all our State Directors in Region 4, to all the chapter officers throughout our region, and to all those wonderful folks who hosted a rally this year and those planning a rally for next year. We want to give a special thanks to those who volunteered to help at the International Rally in Lewisburg, West Virginia. All of you have made NKK exist!

We also give special thanks to Bob, Bonnie, and Linda for their outstanding leadership and assistance. We really appreciated working with the other Regional Directors. Everyone worked together as a team helping each other out when needed. We will miss all of you!

Everett & I will be hosting Newmar Owner Luncheons in Clermont, Florida again this year. The dates are December 9, January 13, February 10, and March 9. We will gather at the Golden Corral, 1555 S. Grand Highway in Clermont. Arrive at 11am. We plan to eat at 11:30. We shall use the large room as we did last year. If you are members of NKK please wear your badges. These lunches are Buddy lunches. Hence, bring a friend and share some good old Newmar hospitality. If any of you know of someone who would be willing to do a short presentation or demonstration after lunch please let us know.

Until next time, happy trails…..

ILLINOISHappy Holidays! We hope you are somewhere warm and, if not, hope you are heading to warm weather soon! We will be leaving for Texas a little earlier than we usually do (December 19th), because we will be coming back to Illinois the middle of March for the birth of our second grandchild.

NORTH DAKOTA/SOUTH DAKOTAWe are in Jacksonville, Florida for a few days at my brother’s place. Then it is on to Homestead Florida Gold Coaster RV Park for the month of November. We will be touring around that area for a while.

Not much news for the present time. The members of Rushmore Roamers have been excellent at paying their dues for 2016. Nearly 100 % have already paid. Thanks to all. It makes my job a lot easier when you respond to my request.

Nearly all plans are complete for the North Dakota/South Dakota State and Rushmore Roamers Chapter Rally, June 13-17. The location is KOA Campground, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Make sure you mark it on your calendar for next year.

The past year was a busy summer with several rallies to attend and the work we had at home with yard work, gardening, golfing, and visiting with friends. Our own Newmar Kountry Klub members usually meet once a week for an evening meal and visiting. If you are in the area please give us a call and join us.

When you are a member of Newmar Kountry Klub you are welcome to attend any rally, just contact the person in charge. They will assist you with registration forms and make sure you are welcome.

We still need someone to step up and re-energize the North Dakota Roughriders Chapter of the Newmar Kountry Klub. We are still looking for a President of the Rushmore Roamers. If you have any questions please call us at 605-543-5527 or cell 605-310-7900. We have several members that have been doing some doctoring and we wish them well and a speedy recovery. Howard Gundrum (11974-L) had a complete knee replacement and is doing well in his recovery and plans on the winter in Apache Junction, Arizona with us at Shiprock RV Resort. John & Betty Pepper (8197) have been going through several health issues this year and we wish

them a speedy recovery. We also have learned that past Region 4 Director, Ken Koch, has passed away. We wish Sharon and the family our prayers.

We also want to congratulate the Del & Lela Nordstrom (14168) on their appointment to Region 4 Directors and we look forward to working with them.

We are p leased to announce the selection of Del & Lela Nordstrom as the next Region 4 Directors for the Newmar Kountry Klub! Del & Lela have been active Klub members since 2003 having served in various leadership roles since

then, and they are the current North Dakota/South Dakota State Directors. They have attended most Internationals, State, and Chapter rallies since joining the NKK and have served on volunteer teams at the International for parking and registration, catering, and seminars. They served as the Vendor Area Coordinators at the International in Du Quoin in the absence of an active Region 7 Director. They have a long history of leadership through volunteerism in their Church and Community. Please welcome them and be sure to step up to fill the void they will be leaving in North Dakota/South Dakota. They will continue to serve a short period as acting State Directors until new State Directors step forward.

The current Region 4 Directors, Everett & Julie Israel, will be stepping down on December 31st, 2015 at which time Del & Lela will start their new term. Thanks to Everett & Julie for their excellent leadership and we welcome Del & Lela to their new roles as Region 4 Directors!

The Holiday Season has arrived. Many scurry around looking for last minute gifts, while others relax and enjoy the festivities. Yes, Christmas and 2016 are but a few days away.

September saw us make a dealer visit to NIRVC’s Georgia facility. Region 5 Rally preparation took lots of time and, we attended the NIRVC Customer Appreciation Rally in Thackerville, Oklahoma.

The Region 5 Rally was next. Final preparations in early October, fol lowed by the rally October 12–17, totally consumed us and our co-hosts, Jim & Barb Watson. The rally was a big success with 47 rigs attending. Thank you NIRVC for providing display coaches, two techs to take care of the issues attendees had, and conducting a seminar. We kept everyone pretty busy and indications are that all had a really good time. Thanks to our newly elected Members-at-Large, Ron & Wanda Llewellyn, for attending. We appreciate all those who attended. Thanks to our co-hosts, Jim & Barb Watson. This was their first time hosting a rally. GREAT JOB!

Late October we attended the Tennessee Volunteer Kruisers Rally in Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there we drove south to Americus, Georgia to attend the Florida Manatees Rally. Then off to Sarasota to help the Florida Pelicans celebrate their 15th anniversary as a Chapter. CONGRATULATIONS PELICANS! We then headed south to Naples for the Florida Sea Turtles Rally. Next, we headed north to Fort Myers for a dealer visit with North Trail RV Center. Their new facility for service and parts is really impressive. Show your support by visiting them. In fact you can attend their Grand Opening, December 4-14. Remember to thank them for their strong support of the NKK and particularly the Florida Chapters.

Get your reservations in for the Tampa Super RV Show? Always a fun time. Our International Directors, Bob & Bonnie Krieger, will be the host and we will be the co-hosts. Parking and registration this year is being done by our own crews. This will be a big improvement over last year. Join us you’ll be glad you did.

Region Directors :: Jim & Annabell Repp (14869)

REGION 5 // AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA

Make plans now to attend the next International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado, September 26– October 1. This will be one you don’t want to miss.

Be sure to check the “Calendar of Events” on the NKK website for upcoming rallies and events.

This is our Christmas Tree. We have hung your name on it, knowing you make our life so blessed. Thank you for being a wonderful friend!

Thisyear we

are putting upa Christmas tree

in our hearts. We are decorating this years tree

with stars instead of presents. Each star representing many

of our NKK friends everywhere. Close friends and not so close friends.

Old & new friends. Those seen frequently and ones seen rarely. Ones always remembered,

and those we sometimes forget. The ones that are always there & the ones that seldom are. The friends

of difficult times and the ones of happy times. Friends who, without meaning to, we have hurt, or without meaning to,

have hurt us. Those we know well and those we only know by name. Those that owe us little and those we owe so much. Our humble friends and important friends. The names of all those friends who passed through our lives over the years,

no matter how fleetingly. A Christmas tree with verydeep roots and very longand strong branches, so

that your names maynever be pluckedfrom our hearts.

So that newnames from all over, may join the existing ones. A tree with a very pleasant shade, so that our

friendship may take a moment of rest from life’s battles. “May the happy momentsof Christmas brighten every day of the

New Year”. This is our sincere wish.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all those on our Christmas Tree!

FLORIDAAs we pilot our coaches down the road, one of the things we often do is look in the rearview mirror. This issue, we are going to look back on our 2015 journey as Florida State Directors.

Just as it sometimes is a challenge to maneuver your coach around a tight corner, our year started with the challenge of having no officers in place to pilot the oldest chapter here in Florida. Through the guidance and encouragement of our International and Regional Directors this was overcome, and they are around the corner and back on the fast track. In January at the Tampa Super Show we initiated an all Florida social to introduce NKK members to the chapters here in Florida. With all four chapters participating, we felt it was a huge success. April found us at the Grand Oaks Carriage Museum & RV Resort at Lady Lake, Florida

Page 28: Exclusive Magazine For Owners Of ... - Newmar Kountry Klub · 12/12/2018  · the Newmar Kountry Klub and may not be used for any other purpose without the written permission of the

near The Villages, for our State Rally. A very successful rally, with 27 rigs in attendance.

July found us in the mountains of West Virginia for the NKK International Rally, where we had taken on the challenge of planning and coordinating the first ever attempt to provide golf cart transportation for the rally. Just like driving in West Virginia some of the hills were pretty steep, some of the curves pretty sharp, and the days long. In looking back on this if not for the rally attendees, eager to help, and guidance from International and Regional Directors, we may not have made it to the top of the hill or around the curve. We then traveled to western Nebraska for a family reunion, after which our daughter from California traveled with us for 3 weeks. September found us in Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois visiting relatives. In our travels, visiting of relative is always high on our priority list, as family is important to us and one never knows if and when they will get a chance to see them again. After a trip to Nappanee for repairs we journeyed to Dillard, Georgia for the NKK Region 5 Rally in mountains of northeast Georgia.

There were also numerous other rallies that we attended throughout the year, as well as spending a few days at Hazen Bay on the south shore of Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota. While there we renewed old acquaintances from our days as camp hosts and enjoyed eating fresh caught walleye. As you read this article in December, we will be co-hosting the NKK Rally in the Florida Keys.

We now need to get our eyes back on the road in front of us, as we travel into the 2016. It starts with The Tampa Super Show where we will again be hosting the Florida social. There will be chapter rallies to attend in Bushnell, Arcadia, St Augustine, Tampa and other locations we are not yet aware of. The Florida State Rally will be at Wekiva Falls near Sorrento, Florida, April 13–17. The International Rally will be in Pueblo, Colorado the last week in September Please check the “Calendar of Events” on the NKK web site or in the Konnection for all of the rallies and events of 2016.

It is our intent to keep our eyes focused on the road in front, with an occasional glance in the mirror to make sure things are OK behind us. We look forward to seeing you at an NKK rally or event this year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.Kent and Nancy Miller (17894-L)Florida State Directors863-991-3910

FLORIDA MANATEESOur first fall rally at The Brickyard Plantation in Americus, Georgia, is now history. The RV park includes a 27-hole golf course for golfers! A trip to Columbus, Georgia to the National Infantry Museum (a special treat for our Veterans), a trip to the Georgia Rural Telephone Museum which is so much more than telephones, and The Richland Rum Distillery were some of the activities we enjoyed. The area is rich in history including Andersonville, which was a former POW camp during the Civil War, and Plains, Georgia where President Jimmy Carter lives and teaches Sunday School. We had 14 coaches with a total of 29 in attendance.

Welcome to new members Bob & Sylvia Hicks, Hal & Karen Schwartz, and Tom & Barb Ferguson. We are happy to have you in the chapter and look forward to seeing you at rallies.

Our December rally is in Cocoa, Florida, and the hosts have planned lots of fun activities. This is followed by the Tampa Super Show which is always a special event. I understand Newmar is handling the parking this year so it should go more smoothly. In the spring, we will rally at Bushnell and St. Augustine, Florida.

Our deepest sympathies go to former members Beverly Englar on the loss of her husband, George in October, and to Sue Williams on the loss of her son, Bill in September. Also, to Bob & Bonnie Krieger on the loss of her mother, Rose.

We wish all a happy, healthy, joyous Christmas and New Year. 2016 is fast approaching with more opportunities for fellowship with our Newmar family and making new friends.

As always, check for rally schedules and register for rallies at www.newmarkountryklub.com. And remember, the important things in life aren’t things. Karen Burnette (16482)President

FLORIDA PELICANSThe Pelicans returned to wonderful, sunny Florida in time for the celebration of the 15 year anniversary of the Florida Pelicans Chapter. This 2015 Welcome Back Rally honored the founders of the Pelicans. The Founders banquet offered us the opportunity to enjoy a trip down memory lane to the first rallies. We are very fortunate to have a number of the original founders and charter members still very active in the club. Founding and charter members were recognized with rally bars and appreciation.

Our December activity was a wonderful Christmas party at the lovely Palmetto Pines Country Club. This party always starts the holiday season in style. We had a great time celebrating with our Newmar friends. In January, we’ll enjoyed our annual Lazy Days rally with the theme of “Your favorite big screen personality” We’ll have a great time dressing up as glamorous or funny characters of years gone by. Let your imaginations run wild. This rally is in conjunction with the Tampa Super Show. A number of coaches will move to the Tampa Fairgrounds, where they will join the Newmar Special Event. We’ll enjoy the numerous displays, technical information sessions, vendors and beautiful new motor homes on display. As always, Newmar service technicians will provide warranty service and general coach repairs. This is an event we always look forward to. The Florida Pelicans would like to welcome our new members Richard & Kathy Manfredi of Bonita Springs, and Dr. Robert Ossoff & Lynn Ossoff of River Bend. We are pleased to have you join our chapter and wish you many wonderful outings.

FLORIDA SEA TURTLESHello Sea Turtles. We are wrapping up this year with a number of interesting and fun activities. The post-International Rally folks should be back home and the November Rally and the Keys Rally should be history. I am certain that all had a great time. Kent & Nancy kept us up to date on the Region Rally in North Georgia through Facebook. The mountain festival events at Hiawassee and the Oktoberfest in Helen are all good fun. Thanks to Jim & Annabell for scheduling this after the original Williamsburg rally was canceled. The NKK Keys Rally was a tremendous production with a super schedule of events. Of course, the crowning part of the rally was renewing old friendships with friends from other parts of Newmar-land. Joan & I always enjoy visiting Key West with its unique charm, especially the sunsets. Thanks Kent & Nancy. As we end this year and the tenure of the current officers of the Sea Turtles, I want to thank Brian & Nancy Howard, Gene Lemoine and Rich Schlieper for their strong support of the Chapter and of me as President. These four people were invaluable in the successes we gained during the past two years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The slate of new officers should have been voted on by this newsletter input, and I want to congratulate and thank the following members for stepping up and taking responsibility. You are so appreciated by all the Sea Turtle members: President Karen Terry; Vice President Bill Berg; Secretary Donna Jones; Treasurer Gene Lemoine and Membership Chairman Rich Schlieper. Please give them your utmost support as they carry out their duties. We are expecting a full year in 2016, beginning with the Tampa Super Show, then the two Sea Turtle rallies and the State Rally in April. Many of us are planning to go to the International Rally in Pueblo Colorado and then to the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Finally our regular fall rallies. (See the NKK Web Page for Scheduling Information) What a year we have to look forward to! Joan and I hope to see many of you at these events. As I wrap up my responsibilities as President of the NKK Florida Sea Turtles, I want to thank every one of you for your support in leading this wonderful group of Newmar owners. You are the greatest. MID SOUTH TRI-STATE (GA–AL–MS)Can you believe that Christmas is just around the corner? During this joyous time of family and friends, take time to reflect on the true meaning of the celebration. We have had so many things to be thankful for this year; new members, safe travels, healed bodies and most of all a God that is always present at our side.

Next year is going to be another busy one. Starting with the Tampa Super Show, many will attend the March FMCA rally in Perry, Georgia, and our Tri-State Directors Rally May 11-15, in Savannah. Please make plans to attend. The fall will be busy in Pueblo, Colorado, for the NKK International. We look forward to seeing you at these rallies.

GEORGIA PEACH STATE KRACKERSFall is here and the cooler weather is welcomed. Even though the Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia is over, the memories will live on forever. Jim & Annabell Repp along with their co-hosts, Jim & Barb Watson kept us busy. The food was great. This was definitely a 5 pound rally. I know because the scales showed it. The entertainment, game time and just plain old comrade was off the chart. We had coach service provided by NIRVC and I know that they ran service calls for four days. Thank you NIRVC.

One of the biggest blessings was on Monday evening when Reba & Jimmy Seals walked into the social hall. God certainly performed a miracle in Reba’s life. She has been declared in remission. God is so good. This was their first trip in the coach since being diagnosed with cancer in the spring, just before our Gulf Shores Rally.

As I write this I have to say, please keep Bob & Bonnie Krieger in your prayers. Bonnie lost her mother earlier this week. There is a void in her life that only memories and God can fill.

By the time this article is out for you to read, our Christmas Luncheon will probably have come and gone. I am sure that we all had a good time with fellowship and feeding of our faces. The food at Buckner’s is always good. Our officer elections have been held. Please give your new president and vice-president the love and support that you have given Wanda & me the past two years.

See you down the road.Gary and Wanda Smith (16540L)Presidents912-656-8800

NORTH CAROLINA TARHEELSHave you finished your Christmas shopping? It bothers me when I hear someone say that they have finished their Christmas shopping in November. I guess it is time to get out and talk to Santa a little bit. Maybe he can slow down “time”.

Except for our joint Christmas at the Beach rally in December with the Palmetto Pals, our ‘quick’ year is about over. We have a great group of rally attendees. It’s always good to see some new couples attending.

The International Rally in July and our Region 5 Rally in October were great and produced five new members for us. Bob & Bonnie Krieger and Jim & Annabell Repp set the rally bar high for succeeding hosts of these rallies. They were impressive with well run rally activities that culminated in FUN, FUN, FUN! Congratulations to all and especially to the many volunteers that made it all possible.

Merry Christmas to you and have a Happy New Year.

Happy RVing!Philip Melvin (10696)President336-655-8299 [email protected]

SOUTH CAROLINA PALMETTO PALSWe attended Jim & Annabell Repp’s Region 5 Rally in Dillard, Georgia in October. They kept us busy and it was a great rally. It made us think about all the years we have been Klub members and what great events we have attended and wonderful people we

Page 30: Exclusive Magazine For Owners Of ... - Newmar Kountry Klub · 12/12/2018  · the Newmar Kountry Klub and may not be used for any other purpose without the written permission of the

have met. What really started this process was talking to Cliff & Wynette Hutchins (3633) who were attending this rally. Peggy and I attended our first Klub Rally, which was also a Region 5 Rally, at Sevierville, Tennessee in the fall of 1994. Parked in the site next to us were Cliff & Wynette and we did many things together at the rally and have remained friends ever since. There were eight South Carolina couples in attendance and we set up a rally date in December to meet and we formed the Palmetto Pals Chapter. We keep telling new members that the friendships you make are one of the greatest things the Klub membership provides.

As you read this we will be attending the annual joint Pals and Tarheels “Christmas at the Beach” Rally hosted by Dallas & Sadie Lee Stewart and Philip Melvin & Becky Garner. We were lucky that the big storm with all the flooding in September did not do any damage to the Ocean Lakes Resort in Myrtle Beach. We will be having our annual meeting at the rally to elect officers and set up rally hosts for 2016. We hope we have this all set at this rally so please step forward and help us out.

We want to welcome our newest Pals members Tom & Barbara Ferguson (20787) from Rock Hill South, Carolina. They were attending the Region 5 Rally where we met them.

We hope everyone has a good holiday season and a good winter season wherever you stay. If you are in the Naples, Florida area this winter, give us a call. Let’s keep those wheels turning and have safe travels.Roger and Peggy Weeks (4479)President and Secretary(864)710-0795 [email protected]

TENNESSEEMerry Christmas and Happy New Year! We don’t know about you but, most of us are still eating leftover turkey sandwiches from Thanksgiving! Pray that you will be with family and friends to celebrate this glorious time of the year.

Our Tennessee Rally season was completed November 1 at the Yearly Rally in the Valley, Chattanooga, Tennessee. We welcome new President and Secretary Treasurer, Sheryn & Dennis Ward. We look forward to their leadership and creative ideas. Thank you for volunteering as officers.

We want to thank Ronnie& Hattie Bledsoe for their four years of service; two as Vice-Presidents and two years as President and Secretary-Treasurer. Ronnie & Hattie you have done an outstanding job in leadership, planning, entertainment, rally hosting, and as Master Chefs. Saying “Thank you” always seems so little for the time and commitment you have applied to these four years. I will shout it! THANK YOU!

Folks, it is always easy to show up, enjoy, and move on to your next RV adventure. But someone, somewhere, has done the footwork, planning and execution for you to have that enjoyment. It is not hard work so I am asking all to Step-Up and host a rally in 2016. Step-Up and volunteer to participate and not just enjoy the spectator role. Sorry about the preaching! Just needed to say it.

Next issue we will fill everyone in on the 2016 Rally schedule and who will be Chapter 72 Vice-president; This election will be held after the deadline for this issue of the Konnection publication.

We can share with you the Tennessee State Rally will be held at Clarksville RV Park, Clarksville, TN, April 25-29 early arrival April 23-24. Late departure April 30-1 May. We are excited about returning to Clarksville, as there is so much to see and do in the area. I would be remiss if we did not also share that fellow NKK members Keith & JoAnn Wagner are owner/operators of this fine park. As a teaser we can tell you if you like authentic German Schnitzel you will not want to miss this rally.

As always don’t forget to check the Newmar Kountry Klub website, and Facebook page, your Region 5 Facebook page, Volunteer Kruisers webpage and to contact the Klub office and have Linda Feece add your e-mail to the monthly “Happenings” e-Blast.

The NKK webpage is the place to find out about special events, Region and chapter events and to register for them. If all else fails please call Charlene & I, 931-638-2015 (cell).

As NKK members you can register for any chapter or region rally or event while you travel throughout the U.S. and Canada. What a great way to meet new like-minded Newmar owners as you travel.

Again, Charlene and I wish you a Blessed Christmas and Happy New Year.

VIRGINIAAs the holiday season approaches we can look back at a beautiful fall season filled with football weekends, September and October Newmar Kountry Klub Rallies, and turning leaves. If you were not at the Region 5 Rally, you missed a great affair hosted by Jim & Annabell Repp. The September Virginia Wheels Rally in Virginia Beach, Virginia hosted by the Grebinger’s and Marks’ was lots of fun also. The food, fellowship, and planned events at both Rallies were outstanding.

Mark your calendar for May 12-15 for the Virginia Wheels 25th Anniversary Rally at the Luray RV Resort. More details will be forth coming as they become available. Make plans to attend the Florida Supershow Rally January 12-17 in Tampa, Florida and the Newmar International Rally September 26-October 1, 2016 in Pueblo, Colorado. Both events have limited space, so plan early.

The Virginia Wheels officers for the upcoming year are the Templeton’s as President, the Rice’s as VPs, and the Pelton’s as Sec/Trea. Congratulations to all and may you have a great time serving the Chapter. A special note of thanks goes to Jeanette Templeton for the Chapter News Letters! THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!!

VIRGINIA WHEELSAt this time we’d like to thank our outgoing Presidents, Dwayne & Pat Kittle, and Vice Presidents, Charlie & Deane Grebinger, for all the hard work and support they have given the Virginia Wheels’ chapter for the past 2 years. At the September Sand & Sun Rally at Virginia Beach, these officers passed the torch to incoming Presidents, Danny & Jeanette Templeton along with incoming Vice Presidents, Ron & Sandy Rice. We are excited to continue to lead our Virginia Wheels’ Family into many more exciting adventures in the future.

2015! What a fun-filled year for our Virginia Wheels’ Family!

• January kicked off the year with over 30 Virginia Wheelers and other NKK members gathering under the “white” dome at the Tampa Show for food & fellowship.• May took us for exciting adventures as we toured in a trolley historic Fredericksburg, Virginia and visited the Marine Corps Museum for our Virginia State Rally. • July had 31 Virginia Wheelers gathering at the NKK International Rally in Lewisburg, WV. Assorted seminars, delicious food, fantastic entertainment, challenging crafts, viewing new Newmar coaches, techs repairing coaches, pet contests, etc. So much going on, but plenty of time to enjoy being with other NKK members.• August had many of us gathering in Gloucester, VA. Planning as we went, we toured Yorktown, ate seafood, devoured lots of ice cream, and relaxed while we enjoyed being with our family.• September took us to Virginia Beach for the Sand & Sun Rally. What fun it was to laugh throughout the mini golf tournament, the trivia games at social hours, the staging for our Olde Time photos, and much more.

2016! Planning many exciting Virginia Wheels’ adventures!• January 14 will kick off Virginia Wheelers’ year as they gather under the “white” dome at the Tampa Show at 11:30 for food & fellowship.• May 12-15 celebrate Virginia Wheels’ 25th Anniversary in Luray, Virginia. A smile is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside.Denis Waitley

Region 6 is filled with smiling people! Everywhere we go, we find smiling faces. And we know they are sincere smiles. We have been working with these people for many years

and never fail to find smiles for everyone.

Our last Region 6 rally as Region 6 Directors was held in Wapakoneta, Ohio where we had our largest rally yet! Members from all of our region states were in attendance, a first for region 6 rallies. And although it was a somewhat sentimental time, we were full of smiles for all those in attendance who came to see us move on…or was that to celebrate our moving on?! We were also blessed to have had several new attendees for our last go-round. We were also full of smiles for Bob and Bonnie Krieger, International Directors who made the time to join us.

Words cannot express and smiles only give part of the deep feeling we have for those who participated in our ‘moving on’ party. The Speedway Gift card from our region members will buy fuel, or perhaps be used to fill up Ron’s giant pop cooler. And of course, the Golden Corral gift card from our home chapter, the Buckeye Kountry Travelers will fill us up with smiles on our faces. A special thanks to the Buckeyes and Janet Grimm for making the cherished Ohio pillow, and to the Michigan chapters for their memorable ‘Michigan is Superior’ t-shirt. And last, but not least, thanks to Carolyn Williams and Claudette Roy for their special presentation. It has been posted on Facebook and many of our non-traveling friends have enjoyed it with happy smiles! A few dedicated leaders put this all together and we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts.

From the Region 6 rally we headed to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to join the Allegheny Kampers Chapter Rally. As newly elected Members-at-Large, we sincerely enjoyed our first outing. More information is in the Members-at-Large article.

In October, we attended the Ohio State Rally at Gallipolis, Ohio. Jerry & Phyllis Rose always do a great job of their state rallies and this was no exception. We enjoyed the Bob Evans Fall Farm Festival, listened to our favorite bluegrass band, the Rarely Herd, in Point Pleasant, WV walked the famous murals along the floodwall of the Ohio River, visited Tu-Endie-We State Park, the Newman Mansion and toured the Mothman Museum. Although we both grew up only 50 miles from the area, neither of us remembers the Mothman monster! But what brought the most smiles, was time spent with many of our original BKT members around Jerry’s campfire! Thanks Rose’s for a great rally!

Region Directors :: Ron & Wanda Llewellyn (16303-L)

REGION 6 // IN, KY, MI, OH, WVWe left the Ohio State Rally to travel to Dillard, Georgia for the Region 5 Rally. As Member-at-Large, this was another event wearing our new name badges and being greeted with many more smiles! More information is found in our Members-at-Large article.

Finally we were home, but only for a few days, just long enough to pack up for a much needed vacation in Myrtle Beach where we are writing this article. But just the remembrances have brought smiles to us once again.

We continue to work on plans for the 2015 Super Rally in the Florida Keys. We look forward to enjoying a fun-filled week with some old and some new NKK members.

And don’t forget to bring your smiles and join us at the Golden Corral in Fort Myers, Florida for the Newmar Owners Luncheon in December, January, February and March (see the Klub Calendar for dates) where we’ll host the first couple of luncheons and then turn the hosting over to the Newmar Kountry Klub Florida Pelicans Chapter.

We can also be found wearing our sincere smiles at the 2016 Tampa Super Show where we’ll be helping park units and assisting with the Newmar Kountry Klub membership booth.

As this may be our last article as Region 6 Directors, we want to thank all of our State Directors, chapter officers over the years and all members for your strong support. All of you have always stepped up to the plate and performed profoundly when asked. Always, your smiles will be with us. Although our focus may be changing, our relationships throughout the region will remain. We plan to join all region 6 chapters again next year and try to attend rallies when in the area. We will continue to support all of you and as always, we remain available to help in any way we can. We can always be reached at [email protected] or Ron (740)707-7107 or Wanda (740)707-2063. God’s speed to all!

INDIANA We hope you’re staying warm. This winter we will be staying in Indiana and saving for what we hope is a great trip Northwest prior to the 2016 International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado. But, before we leave Indiana we will be attending the May rally joining the Hoosier Kountry Klub, the Ohio chapter and the Michigan members. The rally will be May 9-13 and will take place in the Knox, Indiana area. Linda Murphy will be co-hosting this rally for the Hoosier Kountry Klub. If you want more information, you can contact her at [email protected].

The following month will find us as substitute hosts for a rally June 23-26, 2016 in Vincennes, Indiana. The HKK President and Vice-President Connie Ault & Terry Miller had planned the rally but will be unable to attend because of other commitments. Therefore, we will help out as substitute hosts. Connie & Terry have planned a great rally and we have invited the Illinois Kountry Kuzzins to join us. We will be staying at the New Vision Campground and you will have to make your own camping reservations but, don’t call right away. They have asked that we not call to register until April, 2016.

Our out-going Region Six Directors, Ron & Wanda Llewellyn, are in the process of making tentative plans for the Region 6 Rally so the incoming directors won’t have to begin their tenure by planning an early rally. By now, we should know the names of

Page 33: Exclusive Magazine For Owners Of ... - Newmar Kountry Klub · 12/12/2018  · the Newmar Kountry Klub and may not be used for any other purpose without the written permission of the

the new directors and we just know they will be great. A date is not set for the rally yet but Ron & Wanda are looking at dates in July or August because the International Rally will be held during the end of September and the beginning of October. If the 2015 International Rally was any indication, the 2016 rally should be fantastic. Make sure you save the dates.

Finally, I’m sure you are aware that we have announced that we will not be continuing as the Indiana State Directors. We have enjoyed our time in the position and have made many, many new friends and continue to stay in touch with friends from the past, even those who have retired from RVing. If you’re interested in the position and have questions, we’ll be happy to talk to you. You can contact us at [email protected]. We will continue to be active and Alice will continue to publish the Hoosier Kountry Klub Newsletter monthly from March to October. Be sure to continue to check the Konnection calendar of events, the Newmar Kountry Klub web site and the Newsletter for rally information. Remember, if you’re traveling you may attend any rally in the area where you find yourself.

Hope to see you at a rally or special event in 2016. Stay safe in your travels.Alice and Bill O’Brien (9281-L)Indiana State Directors

HOOSIER KOUNTRY KLUBThe 2015 rally season ended with a wonderful Region 6 rally in Ohio. All five states were represented there as well as a couple from New Zealand. In October we had our end of the season luncheon in Kokomo which included nineteen new and retired members. It is always good getting together to talk about the season and old times.

With the changing of leaves and cooler weather arriving, many of our members will be heading to other locations for the winter. We look forward to seeing you next spring starting with a joint rally with Indiana, Michigan and Ohio camping in Howe, Indiana on May 9-13. Another joint rally with Illinois will be held June 23-26 in Vincennes hosted by the Hoosier Kountry Klub.

Thank you to Bill & Alice O’Brien for your work as state directors. We appreciate all of your service for the Hoosier Kountry Klub. Also, congratulations to our Region 6 Directors Ron &Wanda Llewellyn for being voted our Members-at-Large representatives.

Hope you all have a great winter.Connie Ault (19315)President

KENTUCKYIt’s hard to believe that 2015 is almost over. Time sure does fly by when you are having fun, especially when camping is involved.

The Kentucky State Rally was attended by five couples, and even though our group was small, we certainly enjoyed our time together and our visits to the Lexington Kentucky area. We welcomed two new couples as members to the Bluegrass Kountry Roamers; Ralph & Nancy Dennis and Robert & Stevie Goh.

We trust that all had a very happy Thanksgiving with family and friends – we have much to be grateful for and are blessed to be able to enjoy this life style.

Many of us have begun our travels to warmer climates for the winter season. We wish a safe and uneventful journey to you all. We also wish all our Bluegrass Kountry Roamers who are battling illnesses a speedy and full recovery.

As we reflect on the upcoming holiday season, we wish all our fellow NKK members a blessed, safe and healthy Christmas. Please remember the reason for the season.

We are always looking for rally hosts and members willing to serve as officers of the Bluegrass Kountry Roamers chapter. Please contact us if you have an interest – volunteering is what keeps our Klub active and viable. Stay tuned for the date and location of our annual winter luncheon in Florida. Details will follow.

Safe travels until we meet again. We can be reached at (502) 228-4025 or [email protected] or [email protected] and Marilyn McEvoy (15434)Kentucky State Directors

MICHIGANIt’s getting colder and the beautiful leaves have become brown and need to be raked up. We won’t have to mow the lawn again because we have had some frost. Our neighbor has taken his final squash from his garden and we are frying some for dinner. Now, while we are getting out our sweatshirts we think of the coming winter.

We have had to stay home the last couple of years, but this year we will be heading to Texas again. The first order of business is to winterize the rig. Then we start piling up ALL the stuff we will be packing soon. Sometimes it looks like moving day, and in a way it is. I always look forward to spending time in my 5th wheel. Having it as my winter home is a time I always treasure.

If you are lucky enough to spend the winter in a warm climate with your winter friends, you will probably play cards, board games, have pot lucks, and go to dances. These are some of the exact things we do in the spring and summer with our Newmar families. For John and me, Newmar has brought us to this point. We bought our rig, met wonderful people and learned how to care for both. Our Newmar takes to where we can be with the people we love, anywhere. I have a hanging on my wall that says, “Life takes you to unexpected places, Love brings you home. “ In my case I take my home with me.

If you are Michigan bound for the winter, please enjoy the cold and the snow for those of us leaving for a while. Have no fear...we will be back in the spring and we will spend the spring and summer together again.

Be safe, be warm and we will be together again before you know it.Carolyn and John Williams (14030)Michigan State [email protected]

OHIOGreetings Ohioans, “Beautiful Ohio” is a song my parents played over and over again on their record player. I know you remember the big round vinyl records. They had a whole wall with shelves full of them. Even now in the winter in Ohio there are still a lot of “Beautiful” scenes to enjoy. We’ve tried to take you to a number of these “Beautiful” parts of Ohio to enjoy the variety of our state. We were so glad to have a good turnout for our State Rally the first part of October in “Beautiful” southeast Ohio. We were hoping the hills and forests in the area would be a blaze of color but were apparently about two weeks too early to catch the turning of the leaves. We did enjoy the Bob Evans Farm Festival and the activities they had to offer, and of course, a Bob Evans sausage sandwich and bean soup. We walked along the flood wall in Point Pleasant, West Virginia viewing the murals depicting the battle of Point Pleasant on October 10, 1774. It was 241 years to the day after the battle that we visited the wall. We took in the Mothman Museum after lunch.

It was a little weird but there are many people in this area that believe. Some of us watched a video where they showed reports of the same type Mothman appearing in other places and the men in black following just before something catastrophic happened. Dodo dodo dodo dodo…

Our new Members-at-Large, Ron & Wanda Llewellyn joined us for the State Rally. Ron was happy as he was able to go to the big Flea Market that weekend at the same Fairgrounds where we camped. This was their last stop before starting their “Newmar World Tour” well at least the US and Canada. Ron & Wanda have fun; keep us informed, and safe travels.

The Buckeye’s had their election of officers and we are happy to announce that we have a full slate. Bob Grimm-President, Jack Hayes-Vice President, Donna White-Treasurer, Susie Peoples-Secretary.

In September we attended our Region 6 Rally in Wapakoneta, Ohio. We toured the Wilson Football Factory and Fort Recovery. Both were very interesting. I must say that our Region is really getting to know one another. We all have friends in all of the states. I think this is because we have worked parking together for so many years and then we remember each other when we come to the region rally. It is so much fun to meet up with people you don’t see all the time.

Good news. We have plans in the works for an Indiana, Michigan and Ohio joint rally May 9-13 at Twin Mills RV Resort in Howe, Indiana. Yes, that is correct, 4 nights. The campgrounds rate is pay for one night gets one free. The total for 4 nights camping is $46.75. This is in the Shipshewana area. Plans are well under way so put it on your calendar now.

We also are having a joint State Rally with Michigan in Fremont, Ohio, July 7-10. This is up near Port Clinton. Watch the Konnection for more info.

We need hosts for June, and October. The Region Rally should be in August with International in September.

Let us be the first to wish you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy your winter where ever you are.

WEST VIRGINIAAs the 2015 travel season winds down we want to take this time to thank all of the Newmar owners and Newmar Kountry Klub members for all you do. Without you the NKK would not exist.

In 2015 West Virginia gained a lot of attention through the Newmar Kountry Klub. A new West Virginia chapter was chartered and to top that off, the International Rally took place in Lewisburg. It was an honor that we were chosen by Ron & Wanda Llewellyn to help them spear head the forming of the West Virginia Traveling Montani chapter and we are looking forward to making 2016 another successful year not only for the WV chapter but for the NKK as a whole.

Many of you will be traveling to warmer places for the winter and we want to wish all, safe travels. We hope to see many of you on our travels about and most definitely in Pueblo, Colorado.

Lisa and I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.Ray and Lisa Hollen (20055)West Virginia State Directors

We are pleased to announce the selection of the new Region Six Directors - Jerry and Phyllis Rose whose official duties will start on November 15th. They are the current State Directors of Ohio

and have served the Newmar Kountry Klub in several leadership positions including caravan leaders for the “American Heritage” Special Event, the “Country to Castles” Special event and the soon to be “Grand Circle” caravan. They also have served as team leaders at several International rallies for parking and other events. Bonnie and I really look forward to working with this fun couple.

At this time we are seeking an individual or couple to take on the position of Ohio State Directors. See the general ad in the Konnection magazine titled State/Provincial Director Vacancies for qualifications, duties and benefits of this position. If you are interested please contact the Rose’s.

REGION 7 // CT, DC, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT

Greetings from Region 7! Rally season 2015 has come to an end here in the northeast and the Holidays are fast approaching. Our Region 7 Rally in Cape May, New Jersey at the Lake Laurie RV Resort went really well. Lake Laurie was the perfect location for us. The resort and it’s staff were great to work with and would recommend

a stay there for anyone wanting to visit the area. We all had the opportunity to visit Cape May’s unique spots and as part of the rally we boarded a whale/dolphin watch tour boat, sponsored in part by DYLAN’S RV, where we set out on “A THREE HOUR TOUR” and yes we returned safe and sound after witnessing a spectacular dolphin display which was beyond words. There were 400 to 500 dolphins all around us. The staff on the boat had never seen such a large group “pod” of dolphins before although they had heard of such sightings. The dolphins knew Newmar was coming and entertained us for almost an hour. Dylan’s RV also sent a new Dutch Star display unit to our rally for us to tour. Jim Rush from Dylan’s spent a good part of a day with us and was very knowledgeable about the Newmar products. Many Thanks to Dylan’s for bringing a display unit to our rally. We really appreciated them taking an active part in our rally and if any of you are in their area please stop by and thank them personally.

Our next REGION RALLY will be June 8-11 at the Seaport RV Resort in Mystic, Connecticut. We had to move it to the spring due to the 2016 International Rally being held in Pueblo, Colorado September 26-October 1. Mark your calendars and watch for more info to be published in the Konnection’s COE or online. Mystic has a lot to do and see so it should be a great time. As always we can be reached @ 401-808-9030 or 401-808-9031 if you have any questions.

The Pennsylvania Allegheny Kountry Kamper’s Rally was our next stop with the Coble’s and Thurner’s hosting a great rally in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with 22 rigs in attendance. They held their annual meeting and elected a new slate of chapter officers. We look forward to working with them next year. Still looking for State Directors to represent Pennsylvania. We are confident with the increase in new members in Pennsylvania joining the Allegheny Kountry Kampers chapter a new State Director’s appointment will take place soon.

After Gettysburg it was off to the Hersey RV Show where we spent four days making ourselves available at the Albany RV One display area. We met so many Newmar owners and potential owners there. Some were NKK members some not. It still amazes us how much work we have to do to get the word out about our Klub and let them know what they are missing by not being a member.

We must thank the owners of RV ONE in Albany, New York for giving us the opportunity to be present at their location and allowing us to promote our Klub and yes we did answer some questions asked by prospective buyers as to about being a Newmar owner. The staff from Albany RV ONE were very receptive to us being there and we thank them. The new 2016 Newmar’s have so much to offer. Their designs and construction are by far the best. We are proud to own a Newmar and to be part of the Newmar Family.

Our last rally of the season was at the Mystic Seaport RV Resort. It was the first official rally of the New England Aires hosted by the Wright’s and the Barrows’ who did a great job as usual even under adverse weather conditions. It definitely was an official Newmar rally with RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN!!!!! Did we mention Cold and RAIN!!! It did not dampen our Newmar spirit. Friday’s night dinner was moved to the Barrow’s home only a few miles away where we all enjoyed a super meal and a slide show of other Newmar events. Thank you JoAnn & Winston for your hospitality! It was greatly appreciated by all.

Our plans are to leave for Florida after Thanksgiving. We will be staying in Naples again this winter so if you’re in the neighborhood stop by and say hello. We will be co-hosting the Tampa RV Show again this coming January. Hope to see you there.

In closing we want to wish all our Newmar family members safe travels and may 2016 bring you good health, happiness and fond Newmar memories.

NEW ENGLAND STATES Hello from New England! We have had some great rallies this year. Our first in June, then our Region Rally in September. The Region 7 Rally was held in Cape May, New Jersey. We had plenty of time to tour the area (after our initial rain storm), experience some great times and even better meals with the rally goers at the campground. We got to see some old faces and meet some new people also. It was a great rally. Thanks again Bob & Jane Hadley!

It’s official: The new chapter for New England is now the New England Aires. Our first rally was held October 1-4 in Mystic, Connecticut. We had 11 rigs in attendance including our Region 7 Directors and 2 new members. Welcome to Bob & Judy Jones and Bill & Barb Pattison. Thanks, Barb & Brad Wright for hosting again.

We had time for some sight-seeing while we were there, and even had a slice at the famous Mystic Pizza. Then walked down the street to the Drawbridge Ice Cream Shop for a scoop of delicious homemade ice cream.

We have a few rallies for next year already in the works. More Info and rally dates will be posted as soon as plans are finalized. Have a safe and happy winter!

NEW ENGLAND AIRES The New England Aires first rally was held Oct. 1 - 4 at Seaport Campground in Mystic, Connecticut. It was an official Newmar rally right down to the downpours of rain most of the weekend. JoAnn & Winston Barrows our co-host graciously offered their new home for our Friday night dinner. It was cozy, warm and welcoming. Everyone got a good chance to socialize and Winston showed pictures of previous Connecticut Nutmeggers/Pilgrim Aires rallies.

Saturday morning after a pancake breakfast in the pavilion we met in the nice dry activity room for our business meeting. Bob Hadley, Regional Director, presented our certificate from the Newmar Kountry Klub to us. Officers elected were: President, Brad & Barbara Wright; Vice-President, Russell Merwin; Secretary, JoAnn Barrows and Treasurer, Joanne Merwin.

After pleas for rally co-hosts several couples said they would be willing to co-host a rally. Plans are being made for a fall 2016 rally to be held at Travelers Woods in Bernardston, Massachusetts and we are looking into the possibility of another rally during the summer somewhere in New England. Please watch the “Calendar of Events” for upcoming rallies. Despite the weather there was plenty of good food and socialization - we were even able to get a campfire in Saturday evening. Everyone had a great time.Brad and Barbara Wright (12910)Presidents

NEW JERSEYHello from the hills of New Jersey. The leaves have turned red and gold and now are mostly fallen. New Jersey was very pleased to have hosted the recent Region 7 Rally in Cape May on September 9-13. A good time was had by all in this historic seaside resort. Bob & Jane Hadley, the Region 7 Directors, kept us busy, well fed and entertained with Whale and Dolphin watching and a wonderful steak dinner. Lake Laurie Campground, located just north of Cape May, had just finished putting in 20 new pull thru sites and we were the first to use them. This campground suffered from neglect in the past as some old reviews may show, but with new management by Sun RV Resorts, they have staged a dramatic comeback. I whole heartedly endorse them!

At the rally, The New Jersey Garden Aires held an election of new officers. Bill Webster has become the new President. Mike & Barbara Agrati are the new Treasurer and Secretary respectively. We are a small but mighty group of Newmar owners here in New Jersey. Planning is underway for a New Jersey State Rally in 2016. Ideas are still being received as to favorite locations.

Also at the Region 7 Cape May Rally we were treated to a visit from Dylan’s RV, the only Newmar dealer in New Jersey, to a brand new Dutch Star rig. We all ooh’d and ahh’d our way thru it with many questions to the salesman. Sadly for him, no buyers.Respectfully submittedBill and Angela Mannion (19246)New Jersey State Directors

NEW YORKAs this is written it’s the end of October the leaves are changing colors and stating to fall. It seems like it was a short summer. I even heard this morning that white stuff may happen by the weekend.

The Region 7 Rally was a success. The boat trip made the weekend. The Dolphins were in great numbers between 400 and 500 heading south for warmer water. Good food, and great companionship.

The Lakers Rally at Genesee Campground and the Brunch at Terry Hill Country Club was well attended. The food was excellent, the Christmas Party was full of fun and laughter. NEW YORK LAKERSHi All! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and were able to spend some time with your family and friends. The Officers of the Lakers wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope all those traveling south and west for the winter had safe trips and had no problems with your rigs. If you weren’t able to leave I hope the winter isn’t too bad.

We had 26 members show up for the brunch in October. I hope everyone enjoyed the food and had enough time to say their goodbyes for 2015. I would like to thank all those who hosted rallies and other functions for the Lakers Chapter in 2015. We had two couples join this year, we have been adding a few couples each year. Please be sure to keep your Newmar Kountry Klub dues up to date. Also please keep your Lakers dues current (dues are per calendar year).

Remember our first rally will be at Southwoods RV Resort in Byron, New York on May 20-22. Chris Foley will host the rally. I will be trying to set up a lunch get together in Florida, probably in February, more information will follow.

PENNSYLVANIA ALLEGHENY KOUNTRY KAMPERSGreetings from the Keystone State and the Allegheny Kountry Kampers. Our rally season ended with our fall rally held at the Gettysburg Campground in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. We had 20 units including our Region Directors, the Hadley’s, and our Members-at-Large, the Llewellyn’s.

The weather for the week was just perfect. Activities at the rally included a battlefield tour on segways, trips to the Hershey RV Show, a civil war singer and story teller, and lots of good food. Evening games and a campfire are always a part of our rallies.

We are all looking forward to the 2016 rally season. Our spring rally will be in May (site yet to be determined) and our fall rally, usually in mid-September, will need to be modified due to the 2016 International Rally, which will also be held in September in Colorado.

As always, safe travels and remember, keep your eyes on the road and your head out of your apps!David and Kathy Logue (19104)Chapter Presidents

Another year gone by and an eventful one at that. Glen & I had the opportunity to see the rest of our Region 8 territory this year with a caravan to our Maritime Provinces including Newfoundland. It was an enjoyable trip and gave us an appreciation for our Eastern neighbours. We look forward to returning to attend a future rally somewhere!

As most of you know, my Dad passed away this summer and Glen & I had to return home early from the International Rally in West Virginia. We would like to thank those who filled in for us in performing our duties, Ken & Marilyn Jenkins and Ernie & Joan Griswold. Your help was much appreciated.

Once again, please take a moment to review your Kountry Klub membership renewal date and the renewal of your Konnection magazine subscription. Also, if you have a winter address, please notify the Klub office so that your magazine can be forwarded promptly.

Did you notice in the last issue of the Konnection the information about the Facebook page? That’s right, if you “like” the Kountry Klub page, you can see the happenings and maybe even pick up some hints for pleasurable RV’ing. Don’t forget to check out the Region 8 Eastern Canada page. We are just getting started with this but feel free to join us. I am going to try and keep any new information received posted for our members to see there first.

We would like to welcome new members, Ed & Marie Nethercott from Bayfield, Ontario and Serge & Rachel Sonier from Beresford, New Brunswick. We hope to see you soon at a Newmar rally.

Next year, we currently have on our rally calendar, the Muskoka Rambler Spring Rally (Ontario) May 27-29 and the International Rally in Pueblo, Colorado, Sept 25-Oct 1. We hope that some of our members will travel to Colorado. The Chamber of Commerce from Pueblo promises the aspens will be stunning at that time of year.

We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Joyeux Noel and Bonne Annee toutes.

Until next time.....

I saw a sign the other day that said…. ”Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time” …..Laura Ingalls Wilder. Laura was an American writer known for the Little House on the Prairie

series of children’s novels (1932 to 1943) based on her childhood in a settler family. During the 1970s and early 1980s, the television series Little House on the Prairie was loosely based on the Little House books, and starred Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls and Michael Landon as her father, Charles Ingalls. Many times the Killey family gathered together to watch the series on the TV and could well be considered as the all-time favorite show of our early years as a family. Perhaps this year we may see the entire series on DVD under our Christmas tree.

What a rally it was! Penticton, British Columbia was the site of the combined Provincial and Dogwood Chapter Rally with just under 70 RV’s in attendance. It was heard to be called the “Camp Newmar of the North”. This will go down in the history books as the largest rally ever held in Region 9. A big thank you to all those who helped putting this together and making it all happen in grand style including the hosts Beverly & Blake Morris (British Columbia Provincial Directors) and Danielle & Malcolm Scott (BC Dogwood Chapter Presidents). It was a celebration in grand manner for Midtown RV’s 50th anniversary and everyone was treated to a fabulous dinner compliments of Midtown. Thanks to George, Kalvin and the staff of Midtown for allowing us to join them in this 50th anniversary celebration.

The Penticton rally provided the opportunity to host a British Columbia Dogwood Chapter meeting in which two new officers were elected to the executive board. Congratulations go out to the new Presidents Judy & Dennis MacNeill, and the new Secretary/Treasurer Linda & Gordon McKenzie. The past Vice Presidents remained in power for another term and we give a hearty Thank You to Theresa & Robert Fraser for your dedication.

Calling all snowbirds. If you are like a lot of the Region 9 members, you are probably already in your winter destination somewhere in the warm climates of the south. Just because you are not up north does not mean you have to miss the Newmar social gatherings. Check out the Klub web site for a host of rallies, luncheons and social gatherings and go make some new friends at an event with your fellow Newmar Kountry Klub members.

Please check your membership renewal date as the end of 2015 is fast approaching. Don’t forget to renew your Konnection subscription and as well, advise the Klub office of any email, winter address changes or phone number changes.

Region Directors :: Dave & Joanne Killey (16152-L)

Let’s take a look at what is in store for 2016. Alberta starts us off with a rally in Drumheller, June 2-5 followed by the Region 9 Rally in Fort Steele, June 22-26. In July or August there is discussion currently taking place to have a rolling rally on Vancouver Island along with a Mid-August Halloween rally in Fort Langley, British Columbia. September would bring the British Columbia Provincial/Dogwood rally and negotiations are currently underway for this rally for a time and place.

Yes, it’s that dreaded word again. The word that bring fear and turmoil into everyone’s life. But admit it, it’s kinda cool and does provide for a way to keep in touch with friends. It provides an even better way for members to keep in touch, plan an event or just plain update on what is happening in your life. Just log on to your personnel facebook page and search the words “Newmar Kountry Klub Region 9” and it should come up with a list of all 9 Regions and the main Klub facebook page. Click Region 9 and request to become a friend. Once you are accepted by an administrator, you are free to post to the site. No one can see your personnel page information. Turn on/off notifications any time you want. We keep it as a closed group so we do not get spammers posting to the site trying to sell you something you really do not need. We do encourage you to post anything for sale or events that are RV related. Currently there are some great photos posted from the Penticton rally, posting about the Vancouver Island rally and an invite to the Christmas lunch in Abbotsford and Kelowna sponsored by the British Columbia Dogwood Chapter. Why not wish all your Newmar Region 9 friends a Merry Christmas by logging on today.

British Columbia has had Beverly & Blake Morris as their Provincial Directors for the past two years and I am sure all members in British Columbia give a big Thank You to these two for doing such an outstanding job over the past two years. Beverly & Blake have personal commitments that prevent them staying on as directors next year. Therefore we are currently looking for a replacement couple to fill the void for next year. In addition to the perks given to you by the Klub (see Konnection Magazine for a list) you will be rewarded with making many new Newmar friends - friends that stay friends for life. Give us a call if you’re interested and we can discuss this in more detail. [email protected] 604-916-7767

May your Christmas and every day ahead sparkle with happiness and new surprises. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We meet, we part, we hope to meet again.

Page 39: Exclusive Magazine For Owners Of ... - Newmar Kountry Klub · 12/12/2018  · the Newmar Kountry Klub and may not be used for any other purpose without the written permission of the

many wonders the island has to offer. Mid- September found us enjoying the British Columbia Provincial/ Dogwood Rally back on the mainland in Penticton. The Alberta members showed up at Penticton wearing red shirts. We were quite an outstanding bunch of RVers. Thanks to our friends in the Dogwood Klub for a great rally. There was a challenge going on between the Alberta Wild Rose Klub and the British Columbia Dogwood Klub. Whoever had more rally-goers in opposing provinces won the challenge. Needless to say, Alberta brought the coveted trophy home. However, 2016 will have the kup on the line again. Who will take it home...? that will be anyone’s guess. From there we travelled on to the Radium British Columbia Classic and Antique Car Show. There were approximately 1200 cars displayed at this event. AWESOME sight for all the car buffs!!

As we head in different directions at this time of year, some for warmer climates and some who will brave the colder elements, be safe and be happy.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season with friends and family. Looking ahead, 2016 promises many exciting adventures in our travels. In the words of T.S. Eliot “The journey not the arrival matters.”Dennis and Dianne Kolybaba (19560)Alberta Provincial Directors

BACK FROM NEWFOUNDLAND AND CANADIAN MARITIMES

Riddle: When does 49 days seem like a couple of weeks? Answer: When you are on a Newmar Caravan to Newfoundland and the Canadian Maritime Provinces.

On or before July 31, 21 rigs, 42 people and 10 dogs met at Pumpkin Patch RV Park near Bangor, Maine. It was the perfect place from which to launch a caravan. Our group included couples from Florida, Arkansas, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, New Mexico, Utah, New York, South Dakota, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Canada. Almost everyone arrived a day or two early and took advantage of the nearby shopping and restaurants. Within walking distance was a wonderful little restaurant that had delicious seafood and deserts.

The first day on the road included a trip to the 34-room cottage which Franklin D. Roosevelt called his summer home. Next stop was Saint John, New Brunswick where a bus trip showed us all the local attractions including the Reversing Rapids and a stop at Martello Tower.

Each travel day, the groups would leave at pre-arranged times. The wagonmasters left two hours earlier than everyone else to make the arrival at each campground as smooth as possible, and the tail gunners brought up the rear to make sure that nothing was left behind.

Some of the favorite stops along the way included Hopewell Rocks, the musical “Anne of Green Gables” in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and the 18th century fortress at Louisbourg. Most people were pleasantly surprised at the accommodations on the overnight ferry ride to Newfoundland. All of the dogs stayed in their own RV by themselves and didn’t seem to have any problems on the 14-hour ride, although we had a few nervous owners who were very glad to be reunited with their best buddies.

There was so much to see and do in St. John’s, that we stayed there six nights. The day that we had the Lighthouse Picnic was beautiful. It was quite a strenuous climb to the lighthouse, but the incredible lunch and the beautiful view we had was worth it. Many of the dogs were able to accompany us on this day.

Most of the time, our weather was good. In fact, the locals told us that we had brought the good weather with us. Apparently, it had been cold and rainy before we got there. Our trip included boat rides in St. John’s and Bonne Bay. We saw where the first Vikings arrived in North America at the northwest tip of Newfoundland. In St. Anthony a chili cookoff contest was held. Winners were Debbie Seale in 1st place, Dolly Schmidt in 2nd, and Lanie Wright in 3rd.

We listened to the popular local band in Rocky Harbor called “Anchors Aweigh.” The little town of Trinity was a favorite with almost everyone. The Pageant was a combination of singing, comedy, and history. That night at the Trinity Dinner Theatre, singers brought us to tears with the

beauty of their voices. The comedy that was performed was so funny that we laughed so hard we cried. Another fun-filled musical evening was spent in Doyles. We all participated in the “Screech-In” and received certificates assuring us that we are now “official Newfies.” I won’t give away any secrets, but I will say that we got some great pictures. We also had our own built-in entertainers--Rich Schlieper and Brian Howard. They often provided music for our evening socials.

Once we got back to Cape Breton, we enjoyed the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. The Gaelic College was very interesting. We even got to participate in a milling frolic and saw the making of a great kilt. We had several optional days when we camped at Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. Most people went into Halifax one day. The Citadel was amazing. Other optional days took some people to Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, and Mahone Bay. After leaving Baddeck, we toured Sherbrooke Village. Almost everyone indicated that this was one of their favorite days.

Although some of our campgrounds were rather rustic, the most beautiful view was the Five Islands Ocean Resort in Five Islands, Nova Scotia. Each day, we were able to watch the rise and fall of the highest tides in the world. Beach combing for rocks and driftwood was a popular activity in the area.

A lot of this trip was about the FOOD! The seafood was so fresh and delicious!! The NKK Region 8 Maritime Provinces Chapter and their past Directors, Emery and Jackie Melanson, prepared a wonderful lobster meal for us in Shediac. They even taught us how to crack and eat the lobster. That was a good thing, because we had lobster at least two more times. We had the opportunity to sample delicacies such as Moose Stew, Jiggs Dinner, Cod Tongues, and Capelin at the Great Viking Feast in St. Anthony. We enjoyed a traditional Shepard’s Pie at the Gaelic College and had a tasty lunch of salads and sandwiches after a morning of puffin watching when we were at Bay Bulls. After touring the Potato Museum on Prince Edward Island, we were served our choice of potato dishes. Bags of homemade potato fudge, were sent home with everyone. Yum, Yum! In addition to lobster and other seafood, everyone seemed to enjoy the meals that the wagonmasters and tailgunners provided. Four breakfasts, two slumgullion dinners, an ice cream social, a wiener roast, and a few evenings with root beer floats seemed to “hit the spot.” The potluck dinner and souvenir gift exchange turned out to be a lot of fun. We sure have some good cooks!

To sum it up, this trip was a wonderful blend of history, wonderful views, music, fun, food, and new friends. It was a trip that we hope everyone will have a chance to take someday.

2016 LEWIS AND CLARK TRAIL CARAVAN SPECIAL EVENT

How would you like to travel a part of history and have a great time? We are in the early planning stages of a caravan that will do just that. We will gather at St. Charles, Missouri in mid to late July 2016. We will closely follow the travels of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on this adventure.

This trip is a comprehensive tour of the Lewis and Clark Trail. Some of the activities we are looking at while in the St. Charles area would be a visit Camp River Dubois, the start of the expedition, along with several other St. Louis attractions such as the botanical gardens, the Gateway Arch. In St. Charles we will visit the first Missouri State Capitol and down town scenic St, Charles.

On the way to Kansas City we will tour the Budweiser Clydesdale breeding farm. This is a very interesting tour where we can learn a great deal about horses. We will spend several days in the Kansas City area touring museums, the Truman Library and other points of interest.

Along the way we will visit Interpretive Centers, museums and other points of interest. There will be time to venture out on your own to something that may be of interest to you. Enjoy a visit to the World Famous Corn Palace in South Dakota and a cruise through Hells Canyon in a jet boat, including lunch and a guide. There are numerous tours so you can learn about the history of this adventure firsthand.

We will end our caravan in the Warrenton, Oregon area with a visit to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center at Cape Disappointment where the expedition reached the Pacific Ocean. There will be several weeks between this caravan and the International Rally so you will have plenty of time to get to Colorado to continue the Kountry Klub fun!

We want this tour to be one of the best you have experienced. We plan to include many activities and meals at special places and unique to their area. If all comes together we plan to advertise this caravan in the February Konnection and online in mid-February. Please plan to join us on for this great adventure.

We had a great time at the 2015 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Every morning the group was treated to a spectacular view of more than 550 balloons drifting right over the top of us. If you have never seen more than a few balloons at once the magnitude of the balloons in Albuquerque will blow your mind. Every color imaginable. Big ones, small ones and over 100 special shapes. Darth Vader, a monstrous fire hydrant, a HUGE cow, an astronaut, and too many more to describe. It is a good thing that we no longer depend on Kodak film for photos. We’d have to take out a loan to have the film processed. Several people in our group where standing on top of their rigs every morning taking photos of the balloons as they floated overhead. Some were low enough we could talk to the people in the basket.

Our sites include unlimited access to the balloon field. Every morning there is what is called the morning glow. Well before dawn a couple dozen balloons or so are laid out by their crews and then filled with the hot air from their large propane burners. Once inflated they remain tethered to the ground and every few seconds the pilot hits a special burner that produces a bright flame that lights up the balloon. Imagine a couple dozen of these all going on at the same time. It is jaw dropping. Before long hundreds of crews begin the task of laying out their “envelopes” as the balloonists call their balloons and go about the task of filling the envelope using a large fan, then igniting the burners to fill the balloon with hot air. Soon balloons all over the field began to stand tall waiting on the officials to send them off into the cool morning air. Then again in the early evening here is another glow with a few dozen balloonists participating. Being down on the field presents the attendees with an opportunity to

assist one of the many crews getting their balloon ready for the flight. It is an experience you will never forget.

In addition to seeing all of the balloons every morning we enjoyed a great presentation by balloonist Al Lowenstein. He brought the whole works and set up the basket and burners. Boy when he fired them off we could feel the heat many feet away. He demonstrated the two different burners the balloons have. One more bright and brilliant for the glows and the other for lighting and flying the balloons. Did you know that balloons have “N” numbers light airplanes because they are considered aircraft. If you want to learn to fly a balloon it takes a couple of weeks of classroom and practical hands on training and a few thousand dollars. Then prepare to shell out another fifteen thousand dollars for a smaller balloon and up for a bigger one.

While we had a small group in attendance this year we have a special surprise for 2016. Every year Newmar reserves 20 sites for the Balloon Fiesta. We knew that with the International Rally up north in Pueblo, Colorado that that number of sites would sell out almost immediately. We started working with the staff in Albuquerque several months ago to reserve more sites for 2016 on a one time basis. Guess what folks? We have 50 sites for 2016. Yes – 50!!

We look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque at the International Balloon Fiesta in 2016.

THE MARK OF A BETTER DRIVING EXPERIENCE.

freightlinerchassis.com

When you own a luxury motorcoach that displays this emblem,

you know you’re getting the premium RV driving experience.

At Freightliner Custom Chassis, we developed UltraSteer as the

first line of tag axles that are fully-integrated and precision-tuned

to react to turns and other maneuvers of the coach.

When used with FCCC’s ZF IFS front suspension and compared to a competitor’s

chassis (on a fixed tag), UltraSteer delivers up to 17% reduction in curb-to-curb

turning radius— the tightest turns in the industry. And, because the rear tires

follow the ideal 12º turning path, UltraSteer eliminates costly “tire scrub” wear.

UltraSteer is available with a straight beam axle suspension (B Series),

or with independent suspension (I Series). In both cases, you can

be proud to drive a luxury RV that shares a heritage of engineering

excellence with Mercedes-Benz and the entire Daimler Family.

Look for the UltraSteer emblem on your next premium coach.

What a time we have had at Branson this year. We had 13 rigs here this year with a great group of people. They came from Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, South Dakota, Texas and Ontario, Canada. What a fun bunch of people.

We attended 10 shows along with spending one afternoon at Silver Dollar City and six dinners. There was plenty of great music, lots of comedy and a great amount of food. For breakfast each morning we met at the campground rally hall for a delightful start for the day. At breakfast we handed out the tickets for the days shows and talked about what we were going to do and what they liked or disliked about yesterday’s events.

One of our Texas travelers celebrated their 63rd birthday with us while at Branson. We had cake twice for a five pound rally.

It is so nice meeting new people and having them as friends for the rest of our lives. We will see them at the International or maybe somewhere else down the road. How nice is that? Delightful isn’t it.

Thank you to all of the thoughtful folks who spent the time with us at Branson and shared their vacation with us.

Always keep Christ in Christmas as HE is the reason for the season.
