EXCLUSIVE DEMO ADVENTUREDefeating Strahd’s GargoylesEnter the King’s crypt, fi nd the lair of Strahd’s gargoyle servants, and slay them.

Goal: Find the King’s Crypt and slay all the Gargoyles.

Number of Heroes: 2–5 Heroes (group adventure).

Adventure SetupSpecial Components in this Adventure: King’s Crypt Tile and the Gargoyle Monster Cards.

2–3 Heroes: Take all 3 of the Gargoyle Monster Cards from the Monster Card deck. Put 1 back in the box, and set the other 2 aside. You’ll use 2 of them during the game.

4–5 Heroes: As above, but you’ll use all 3 Gargoyles.

Take the King’s Crypt tile and 4 other tiles from the Dungeon Tile stack. Place the King’s Crypt tile at the bottom of the selected tiles. Then place these 5 tiles onto the top of the Dungeon Tile stack.

This adventure uses 1 Healing Surge token.

Lay out the Power Cards for each Hero as listed below.

• Dragonborn Fighter: Cleave, Tide of Iron, Unstoppable, Brute Strike, Dragon’s Breath

• Dwarf Cleric: Healing Strike, Lance of Faith, Healing Word, Shield of Faith, Flame Strike

• Eladrin Wizard: Magic Missile, Scorching Burst, Fey Step, Shield, Fireball

• Human Ranger: Careful Attack, Twin Shot, Crucial Aid, Bounding Attack

• Human Rogue: Backstab, Deft Strike, Sneak Attack, Stealth, Dagger Barrage

Place the Start tile on the table. Place each Hero on a square adjacent to the stairway on the Start tile.

Special Adventure Rules King’s Crypt Tile: When a Hero reveals the King’s Crypt, do the following:

� Instead of drawing a Monster Card for the tile, place the Gargoyles on the tile. The active Hero’s player receives a Gargoyle Monster Card. Clockwise from that player, hand out the remaining Gargoyle Monster Cards to the other players.

� Heroes can’t explore new tiles. For the rest of the adven-ture, each player draws an Encounter Card at the start of his or her Villain Phase.

Victory: The Heroes win the adventure when they have destroyed the Gargoyles guarding the King’s Crypt.

Defeat: The Heroes lose the adventure if any Hero has 0 Hit Points at the start of his or her turn and there are no Healing Surge tokens remaining.

When You Start the Adventure, Read:The night skies over Barovia have been plagued by gargoyles from the nearby vampire’s castle, as they snatch up villagers to sate Strahd’s thirst for blood. You know the gargoyles were originally guardians of a king’s crypt within the castle, and you have trav-eled to the castle to eliminate the gargoyles during the vampire’s daytime slumber.

When the Heroes Reveal the King’s Crypt Tile, Read:As you make your way into the crypt, gargoyles appear, ready to defend their master to the death!

Running the DemoIf there are fewer than 5 players, you should play as well. If no one else picks the Dwarf Cleric, choose that Hero.

Take the fi rst turn moving your Hero as far as you can and revealing another tile. This will allow the next player to attack a monster and assure that each player gets a chance to experi-ence as much of the game as possible. If you are not playing, draw a Monster Card and place that Monster on the bone pile farthest from the Heroes during the setup of the adventure.

Remember, when the Gargoyles activate on a player’s turn, all of them do so. This should make the fi nal battle challenging but beatable with the right use of resources.

The demo doesn’t use experience points, so you won’t need to track them. You can explain their use after the demo.
