IINTRODUCTIONNTRODUCTION
THE ADMINISTRATOR OF RAILWAYS INFRAESTRUCTURES (ADIF) has the objective
of constructing the high speed network in Spain.
ADIF is a public business body that was created after the Railway Sector Act came into
force on the 1st of January 2005.
The following are noteworthy among the exceptional infrastructure works carried out
by ADIF:• The Ebro Viaduct
• The Vinaixa Viaduct• The Arroyo del Valle Viaduct
• The Montblanc Tunnels• The Guadarrama Tunnels

THE EBRO VIADUCT. CONSTRUCTIVE DESCRIPTION AND PROCESSTHE EBRO VIADUCT. CONSTRUCTIVE DESCRIPTION AND PROCESS
The deck comprises a non-homogeneous
longitudinal section, with the presence of circular weight reductions in the
core.
Original “Vierendel” beam design in
prestressed concrete.

This process consists of constructing the arch-stones on the
two viaduct abutments and, by means of successive thrusts,
position the already constructed parts in their definitive locations.

THE VINAIXA VIADUCT. CONSTRUCTIVE DESCRIPTION AND PROCESSTHE VINAIXA VIADUCT. CONSTRUCTIVE DESCRIPTION AND PROCESS
Length: 1.044 m
Consisting of 22 spans
This viaduct is exceptional because of the construction of two arch piers that permit the passage of the existing railway line and a future expansion to a double track.
The deck consists of a caisson section with vertical cores and two 4-metre wide
overhangs.Mixed concrete and steel
structure.

THE ARROYO DEL VALLE VIADUCT. CONSTRUCTIVE DESCRIPTION & PROCESSTHE ARROYO DEL VALLE VIADUCT. CONSTRUCTIVE DESCRIPTION & PROCESS
The following activities are carried out:• Monitoring movement at the pillar head• Monitoring cracking at the pillar base which
acts as a prop.• Folding down of each semi-arch
(approximately 12 hours)• Concreting of arch keystone• Blocking of abutment imposts and
concreting of the semi-arch springing
• Deck execution by means of self-supporting formwork
Length: 1.755 m
Consisting of 27 spans
This viaduct is exceptional because, at the centre, the pillars are in the form of semi-arches, which
are constructed “in situ” and then folded it down.

Verified phenomena of expansivitywith pressures of 3.5 MPa, the
tunnel floor had to be reinforced
In view of the significant deformation, it was decided to construct an inverted
circular vault using self-compacting HA 80 reinforced concrete
The Lilla, Camp Magré y PuigCabrer tunnels with a total length of 3.046 m and an
inside diameter of between12.0 and 14.0 m

These works are a tunnel with a 28.4-kilometre base length, the route of which crosses the mountainous massifs of the Central Systems at the maximum elevation of 1,200 m
with a maximum coverage of 992 m under the Peñalara massif.

30 m
The design consists of two main tubes for a single track, with 9.51
m of excavation diameter, a 30-metre separation between axes and 24 m2 connection galleries
every 250 m.
The constructive method consisted of “double-shield” very hard rock tunnelling equipment.
The “double-shield” type permits simultaneous excavation with the installation of prefabricated lining, which also provide terrain support and reduces execution time to a
minimum.
The tunnel lining comprises prefabricated reinforced concrete rings, executed on-
site, which the actual machine itself installs as it advances.
