1834Taylor & Howarth was established as an edge tool

manufacturer in 1834 as a partnership betweenHenry Taylor & James Howarth. The business

became Henry Taylor as Howarth left in 1842 toset up his own tool manufacturing company.

1851A prize medal was awarded by the jurors of

the Great Exhibition of 1851 to HenryTaylor, for the superior quality of the articles

manufactured by him. Medals were also awardedat the The Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1855 and at the

1862 International Exhibition in London.

1892 The company moved from the original factory

on Fitzwilliam Street to the ‘Acorn Works’ atArundel Street in 1892, where it stayed for thenext 50 years. Henry Taylor became a limited

company in 1898.

1948Henry Taylor Ltd was incorporated into Aaron Hildick

in 1948, a well-known family run edge toolmanufacturer that had spanned 4 generations.

1977While the tools were initially sold under

the name ‘HenryTaylor (Proprietor: AaronHildick)’, in 1977 the company changed

its name to the one we know today; Henry Taylor (Tools) Ltd.’

2006Hamlet Craft Tools, a range of tools

designed by Tom Cooper, was purchasedby Henry Taylor (Tools) Ltd in 2006, andthe range continues alongside the Diamic

and Acorn brands.

1981Henry Taylor was awarded The Queens Awardfor Industry in 1981, which was followed by a

visit from Prince Charles in 1984. Ten years later the business moved to its

current premises on Livesey Street.

2017Paul Wragg, the current Managing Director, boughtHenry Taylor (Tools) Ltd in 2017 and has worked

hard to return the business to its traditional valuesof service and quality; with two family

generations bringing skills and expertise to thecompany’s ongoing development.
