History: Since 1906The Franklin City School System was established in 1906 to provide children in the city an opportunity to attend school closer to home rather than travel many miles to attend a then-rural Williamson County school.
The first school, Franklin Grammar School, was built in 1907, at Five Points where the current Williamson County Archives building is now.
The FSSD School Board is extremely fiscally responsible and ensures that tax monies collected go to:• delivering instruction to our 3,700 students, serving students of
all income levels, stages of readiness, and language skill proficiencies.
• providing rich programming designed to engage the “whole child,” including the fine arts and physical education.
• ensuring delivery of curriculum resources and highly qualified personnel to meet the needs of both gifted and accelerated learners, those needing intense intervention, and everyone in between.
• excellent per pupil expenditures, a national standard of quality that illustrates the district’s commitment to providing high quality instruction and resources to its students.
• attracting and retaining the best and brightest teaching staff.
Financial Responsibility
u The FSSD holds a superior Moody’s Investment Rating of Aa1, which speaks to the district’s ability to borrow money and repay debt. This is critical to ensuring facilities and capital investments are maintained to the highest standards.
