Silica Regulations: Compliance Discussion

▪ Began compliance efforts in January 2017 before the September 2017 due date.

▪ Embarked on a continuous training program as part of our New Employee Orientation and Safety Training of the Silica Hazards under the HAZCOM.

▪ To Date we have trained over 300 workers.

▪ For some of our demolition workers the training included Respirator training

▪ This leads to the additional requirements under the OSHA Respirator Standards and some specific Silica Standard requirements, including Medical Surveillance.

Silica Compliance:Alternate Control Methods

▪ OSHA 1926. 1153 provides in paragraph (d)Alternate Control Methods for Tasks not in Table 1

▪ With few exceptions EHG has chosen this approach to achieve Compliance.

▪ EXPOSURE ASSESMENTS – Because demolition is Mentioned only in Task 17 and 18 most of our work Practices in the field are simply not covered.

This Means:

• Initial and Continuous air monitoring of demolition Activities

• Creating Exposure assessments on the level of Silica In the air

• While making these assessments workers must be in respirators
