Complete your bachelor’s degree in four years at Elmira College
My major improved my skills in writing and critical analysis— two essential components to policy and law. Every class, every professor, encourages you to participate by asking questions or by debating the day’s question. The professor, not a TA, read and
commented on every paper I wrote, which really helped my writing to improve. Working closely with faculty and administrators in student organizations taught me many valuable skills. As the Chief Justice of Judicial Board, I worked closely with College administrators to resolve many issues that required an open mind and a professional bearing. The skills I gained from actively participating in Elmira College’s student organizationsmade me a more competitivecandidate for graduate schooland in the pursuit of a career. The small class sizes and regularcontact with faculty gave me an opportunity to form lasting bondsand friendships with my professors.

“Visit Elmira College for yourself!”Ivan began at Schweizer Aircraft in 2007 as an Elmira College intern.Fun Fact:
My experience at Elmira College prepared me for success working with a company competing in the global economy. Every day I apply the concepts I learned in my classes at Elmira College. The lessons I learned about teamwork and relationship
building through my participation in intercollegiate athletics and involvement with our nationally-recognized Students In Free Enterprise team have been exceedingly valuable in my career. My internship at Schweizer (Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation) presented the opportunity for me to demonstrate to senior members of management that I could make a positive contribution to their organization. My internship turned into a job offer before Commencement. Elmira College was theright choice for me. It was a place where Igrew personally, intellectually, and professionally.

“It has been thirty years since Commencement and life has unfolded with a richness and diversity that I could not have imagined those many years ago.”
oming to Elmira College was probably the single wisest decision I have ever made. I was initially interested in the Early Assurance Program between the College and SUNY Upstate when I came for my first Open House. Although it seemed like a distant possibility, during my sophomore year, I was accepted to Upstate University Medical School. I am most thankful because it allowed me to get into a great school without the typical stress an applicant would encounter. Completing my major in Biology at Elmira has definitely helped me in my Medical School classes. I feel as though the instruction, concepts, and coursework presented helped me prepare for these more advanced courses. The activities I participated in while at Elmira have shaped me intothe person I am today. My work in Pre-Health Club, Work for a Cure, and JDRF gave me the opportunity to work with those in the healthcare field. Holding executive positions on the Orientation and Octagon Fair Committees taught me to work with a diverse group of people toward a common goal.

After Commencement, I moved to New York City to begin work as an auditor of financial services with KPMG. Working with a multi-national firm allows me the opportunity to complete international rotations, and simultaneously allows me to expand my understanding
of international practices as I audit firms with offices around the world. Elmira College played an important role as a stepping stone for me to
develop into a strong leader in the real world. Balancing extracurricular activities and school work is very similar to achieving work-life balance.
Elmira College’s small size allowed me to interact and build relationships with many students and faculty. The support structure at Elmira College allowed me to explore areas of interest and gain support of mentors who I can still turn to for advice. The faculty at Elmira College encouraged me to join organizations that would give me an insight to career options. Working in a field where my
client and work team changes every few months, I have to be prepared to work with different personalities and be able to adapt to different working styles.
Elmira College’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was a great platform for me to broaden my understanding of classroom content and apply what I had learned, as well as gain specialized skills, such as becoming an IRS certified tax assistor.

I believe that my four years at Elmira College have made me a well-rounded individual. Aside from my majors, the liberal arts
curriculum enhanced the depth and breadth of my education. The liberal arts education that I received at Elmira College opened my eyes to many issues and topics. Additionally, I believe that the opportunity to be a tutor and a teaching fellow helped me as well. In whatever one does after college, it is important to be able to stand up in front of a group of people and communicate effectively. From the opportunities I was given at Elmira College, I gained experience and confidence in public
speaking. The same can be said about being president of the Legal Eagles. This leadership position, aside from building on my confidence in public speaking, also helped me become a more responsible and organized individual. I would argue that the most significant tool I acquired during my four years was the ability to write effectively, informatively, and persuasively. Looking back, I greatly appreciate the emphasis placed on writing at Elmira College. The majority of the legal profession truly centers on one’s writing abilities and I can already see the benefits of what I learned at Elmira College.
