Excel Tutorial - How To Add Second Line In A Cell In Excel File In this video I am going to show you how to add second line in a cell in your Excel file. Let's say you want to use a longer sentence in your header than my mock up Heading 2. Sales Results Jan - July, for instance. I am going to show you how I do it usually and that method eliminates a lot of frustration. I will type the word Sales, then hold Alt key and push Enter. When I do that Excel creates a new line in my cell. I will type the word Results, then hold Alt key again and push Enter. Excel creates another line and I will type Jan - July on it. Now when someone else opens this file on their computer, the likelihood is that the width of column B will change. But, that will not affect how my header is displayed - all words will still reside on their own line. Let me show you in cell C1 what people usually do and how it is different from what I just taught you. People would type the whole sentence, it does not fit into the width of the column C, they right click, choose Format Cells, and on Alignment check Wrap Text option. But, if someone else opens their file on their computer and the width of column C changes - the text wraps differently and is not displayed the way you intended - looks ugly. So to avoid this frustration, every time you want your words in a cell to reside on their own line, do what I just taught you - once you type a word hold Alt key and push enter to add a new line in your cell. Repeat as many times as needed. Alt + Enter will always add a new line in your Excel cell. Enjoy! Larissa
