Prime Time Singers Ann Peay

Another successful tour was completed in October with each person returning with their own set of memories. (Some 'buzz words' I heard floating around were: “Accommodations were GREAT!” “Food was reasonably priced!” “Dominos were fun!” “People were helpful and appreciative.”) Those of you who did not have a chance to go, strike up a conversation with someone who did and enjoy some of their experience 2nd hand. Blessings shared are always enjoyed by both the giver and the receiver. With that trip now a memory, it is time to focus on events coming up in the next two months. (A reminder: This newsletter will be for both December and January.) November 18th was a trip to Morningside Ministries At Menger Springs-the Cibolo House. Our music was already “well healed” so just floated out of our mouths with joy attached. With all the activities surrounding Christmas, the Prime Time Choir has a little breathing room with only one planned performance at Brookdale Plaza on December 16th at 10:30 AM. This will, of course, be Christmas music. Festive attire is the 'order of the day' – even whimsical, so have fun with it! They will be serving us a luncheon, which is always so appreciated. Everything is back to normal for January so be sure to mark your calendars with our Friday Rehearsals 10AM, with a scheduled performance at Windcrest Care Facility in Fredericksburg on January 20th. This, of course, will be music we have already learned. It is always such a joy to share our beautiful music with so many who have many limitations in their lives. This reminds me of a poem I wrote many years ago for a special female choir I sang with who also traveled to share our music with others.

“Singing is what we all like to do; It's a joy shared by each of us, too.

We meet together and practice so long And try very hard not to get it all wrong.

Each with her own voice but blended as one We perfect each number, but still we aren't done.

Our hope is that someone will want to hear Our efforts displayed for even a critical ear. We all share the same motivation, you see:

Fulfilling ourselves and bringing joy to thee.” by ANN PEAY

It is through God's grace that we each have this gift to share, even as we all age 'gracefully.' (This also applies to the many male voices in our midst.)

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

Twenty six vases were made from the altar flowers in October. They were delivered to Peterson Hospital and local care facilities. Without our wonderful donors, there would be no such ministry. Call Carrie in Church office if you want to participate by having a large bouquet placed on the Sunday altar in memory of or to honor someone special. Thank you for caring.

Aren't Fall colors beautiful?

Agape Class - Room 223 Sheila Reed Happy Holidays from the Agape class! The holiday season is upon us and the weather is still in summer time! That’s OK. It’s Texas! We are sad to report that Clayton and Betty Williams recently lost their grandchild at birth. Our class had prayers and prayers for them and their family. Nancy Olive is still out with her back. She is receiving treatment from a doctor in San Antonio. We hope she gets relief soon. Sheila Reed is still in her boot but is able to be out of it for half a day each day. John Brantley had "rotor rooter" cleaning to his carotids recently. That is what he called it! Looks worse than it is. Marjorie Wilson is moving home we are told. We know she will be happy. Bobby Lesser still has health issues. Jewell Thompson still is not able to come to class. We sure do miss her. Ken and Susan Brown recently took a trip to visit relatives. Susan Lesser made a trip out of town. We hope they all had a good time. Birthdays for November are Don Clark on the 4th, Betty Pomerinke on the 30th. Roy and Lois Hickman have an anniversary on the 27th! December birthdays are Jane Davidson on the 10th, JB Oswalt on the 15th, Anne Hageron the 20th and Susan Brown on the 31st. David and Betty Pomerinke have an anniversary on the 24th! The class luncheon will be held on the 16th this month. We did not want to have Susan Lesser miss the luncheon so the class decided to move the date. As I close this report until next year, I would like to say “Thank you” to everyone involved in the printing and formation of all the reports!

Heavenly Father, On this Day

We bow our hearts to you and Pray. We give You thanks for all You've done. Especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son For beauty in nature, Your glory we see For joy and health, friends and family.

For daily provision, Your mercy and care These are the blessings You graciously share.

So today we offer this response of praise, With a promise to follow You all of our days.

-Mary Fairchild-

Hey, everyone! My name is Karen Hulsey and I am new to the Ingram/Kerrville area and a new member of Trinity Baptist Church. I moved to my cozy home in Ingram Oaks in June of this year, having traveled from Johnson City, Tennessee. My little household is made up of me and my companions, Digby (the dog) and Sunny (the cat). We love it here. I am a native Californian having been born in Fresno, California, and growing up in San Jose and the San Francisco Bay Area. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was ten years old through the witness of my mother and Camden Avenue Baptist Church. A character story in VBS helped answer questions I was having in my life. As I listened to the story of a boy my age who had some of the same questions, I knew he would find answers. And his answer would be my answer too. That answer was Jesus! After receiving Christ for myself, He became the center of my life. In my teens, I read the scriptures, often comparing two or three translations at a time, devouring the meaning of the words and asking the Lord to help apply that to my life. After high school, I attended business college and then worked. I felt the leading of the Lord to attend California Baptist University in Riverside, California. There I received my BA in Psychology and Sociology, with a minor in Education. That began 30+ years of serving my Lord in the area of Children’s Ministry; teaching, directing, becoming a Children’s Pastor, teaching in a small Christian college helping to develop curriculum in ministry to children, doing seminars and workshops for churches and other organization who wanted training in ministry to children. Most of that work was bi-vocational, as I worked various jobs. After raising three stepdaughters and caring for my mother during her final years, I moved to Tennessee where my mother’s people are from. There the Lord gave me a job (and ministry) I never thought I would ever be doing. I was a Probation Officer, and also the Director of the Recovery Drug Court for Washington County, Tennessee. The work was emotionally demanding, and the Lord gave me the wisdom and discernment to do His job. Many, many of my clients opened the door with comments and questions about God and prayer and life. As they opened the door, I stepped right on through with the message of Christ. I am now retired from working full time, but never retired from sharing my story of Jesus Christ and His love. Just like many of you, I too have had my share of disappointments and tragic circumstances. Through it all, the Lord Jesus has always lifted me with His mighty hand. He has fed, clothed and sheltered me as a husband. He has taught, guided and covered me as my Father. I am truly honored to be a part of the kind, loving and supportive family at Trinity Baptist Church. Stop me in the hallways and say hello. I’d love to meet you!

Ever wondered who invented “42”

Reported Origin of Texas 42, A Game of Dominos Christopher Evans, a writer for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, authored an article in August1985 that indicates the game of 42 originated in Garner, Texas in 1887. Garner is a small Texas town located west of Fort Worth. Per Evans, before its name was changed, it was called Trappe Spring. It was there that two boys, William A. Thomas and Walter Earl, reportedly "invented" the domino game 42. Evans reported that Thomas, 12, and Earl, 14, children of devout Baptists, were caught playing cards in the hayloft of a barn. Playing cards was considered sinful in those days, and the boys were disciplined for their indiscretion. Well, necessity breeds invention and, according to Evans, the two boys set out to find a way to play cards using dominos. By the fall of 1887, they had devised a four-player game using double-six dominos that incorporated bidding and trumps, very similar to the game of 42 played in Texas today. Since domino playing was acceptable to their parents and other residents of Trappe Spring, Thomas and Earl began teaching others how to play the game. The game caught on and spread from there. The Earl and Thomas families later moved to Windom in Fannin County (north-northeast of Dallas), and the game reportedly spread from there, too. According to Evans, William Thomas told the story about his co-inventing the game in a 1927 interview with the Dallas Journal newspaper. Thomas died in 1946.

Jubilee Class - Chapel Rae Logan There have been so many things going on at Trinity and many still to follow. Sue Stewart is in charge of serving all those meals to the people attending “Blessing” next Saturday morning and I am going to be one of her helpers. It should be a very uplifting time. It was announced at Sunday School that we will have a Christmas Party at Brookdale. They have really been nice to Jubilee. So class, do your part and come out for the Party. Before Christmas though, comes Thanksgiving. The annual Dinner hosted by Prime Time is to be held this Thursday, the week before the actual holiday. It looks like we will have a nice crowd if the ticket sales are any indication. I hope to see you there. That reminds me, the Prime Time Scrapbooks are on display in the hall across from the Chapel. They will be there through the month of November. If you had your picture taken at any Prime Time function this past year, you should be able to find it. I also took quite a few pictures at Sunday morning Fellowship Time. Maybe yours will be in that section. Also there are pictures from our latest Choir Trip. Be sure and take a look. Speaking of our Choir Trip, you should find an article concerning the trip elsewhere in this newsletter. The Jubilee Class members participating in that trip were Linda Cullison, Donna and Durwin Hill, Rae Logan, Kal and Bev Nyitrai, Sandy MacFarlane, and Allene Wheat. Jane Vaughan is home recovering from her surgery. Diana Galbraith had to return to Austin for an additional surgery. She will be there with her daughter for a recovery period. We hope to have you home for good soon, Diana. The story this month is written by our own Ruth Spradling. Thank you, Ruth She writes:

Jimmie and Ruth joined Trinity 25 years ago, after relocating from La Porte, Texas, Ruth’s birthplace and hometown. Jimmie was born in Warren, Arkansas then lived in the Dallas area for much of his

youth. His family relocated to La Porte for his father to find employment during WWII. We attended high school at the same time and knew each other but did not date until he returned from the Korean Conflict in 1953, the year of our marriage. Jimmie worked for Shell Chemical in Deer Park, Texas for 36 years and Ruth worked for Rohm and Haas, a chemical company later purchased by Dow Chemical, for 37 years. We built our home in 1960 and welcomed Hurricane Carla with two inches of water over all

our floors. We became involved in local politics and Jimmie ran for city council and later for Mayor, only to lose by 11 votes. He became Manager of our local Home Owners Association and that led to a part-time situation that he filled for 18 years until we moved to Kerrville. We were involved in First Baptist Church in La Porte, where I taught a Ladies SS Class. Along the way our daughter, Cynthia, was born, attended La Porte schools and then Texas A&M, where she met her future husband. She is our only child and is a teacher at Starkey Elementary. Many of you will remember our granddaughter, Matney, who went to school in Kerrville. She is married and living and working in Longview, Tx. We moved to Kerrville, because I, having had a bad experience with a hurricane in 1943, wanted to live some place ”high and dry”. Retirement in Kerrville was good until the death of Jimmie almost two years ago. We built our home here 20 years ago and it is “home to me”. Trinity Baptist Church has been a blessing in so many ways, and each of you have been a part of that blessing. The Dress Makers met the 1st Thursday of November. We were busy packing large bags to deliver over 110 dresses with shorts for the girls plus shorts and t-shirts for the boys. Each set was enclosed in a zip-lock bag with the size included on the front. They were equally divided and delivered to three local children's homes : Hill Country Youth Ranch( Ingram), Medina Children's Home and Hill Country Cares (Kerrville). They were definitely appreciated. We are starting to fill the large plastic boxes again. Carol Westfall said they are returning to Dominican Republic in early January and would be happy to take whatever we have. This is a remarkable project done by remarkable ladies! Thank you. Next meeting is December 1st. 10:00 a.m.

Pilgrims of faith - Room 121 Jo Hancock The Pilgrims of Faith classroom was full (over 50 in attendance) in October, and those members were not the kind to just sit, soak and sour! Instead, they were busy using the spiritual gifts God provided them as mentioned in Romans 12:6a, 7-8 NLT "In His grace God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly." Harvest Fest offered POF members an opportunity to use those gifts by serving popcorn (Jackie and Ronnie Zastrow, Evelyn and Don Rossow, Don Maltman, Paula Locke), making lemonade (Jeanne Dame, Sylvia Valencia, Deanne and Herman Walker, Dale and Leland Carmichael), serving pickles (Jo Hancock, Jane and Charles Rackley) or helping in general (Glori Ball, Sandy West, Bitsy and Truman Martin). Class members also were serving as hosts for the Prime Time Holiday Dinner and were involved in helping with the 1st Blessing/Mission to Kerrville event. After working hard this fall, we were ready for a fun evening at the POF Christmas party at the Buckhorn Lake Resort Barn. Whew! There were no bored Baptists in this group. A new POF member, Glori Ball, recently joined the Prime Time Singers and the Worship Choir. She jumped in with both feet and memorized approximately 14 new songs, one of which was "This Is My Country". Glori's biography begins with the following words from that song: "What difference if I hail from north or south, or from the east or west?". "I believe this was God's recipe for our life”. A poor Yankee girl from New York was led to a poor southern farm boy from Mississippi. God led us to meet in California in 1975. Upon my return to California from an employment assignment in Houston, I received a call from a “clayball”- - -sounded strange to me! Clay lived north of LA, I lived in SD. He was coming to San Diego for a friend’s wedding and wanted to meet me. He knocked on my back door and after visiting for a while, we became friends. From that day, we saw each other at least every weekend, sometime more. Six months later we were married! God watched over us as we grew and He guided us as we lived out our dreams. He was there as we experienced life all over the world and as we shared His Word with people on our journey. He challenged us as we developed a love for each other and learned to trust in His loving care. “WE NEVER WALKED ALONE”. Clay was involved in serving others, starting as a teenager selling Bibles door to door. Later he served as president of Magnolia Exchange Service Club, Mission

Viejo Rotary and Orange County Enrolled Agents Society and then as trustee at Capo Valley Baptist Church. His true ministry was his tax clients. Each client's appointment had a built in "worship" time where Clay would counsel them on taxes, the importance of a relationship with God, tithing, and recognizing that everything comes from God. The clients actually looked forward to their "tax" appointment every year. I left NY for CA shortly after finishing school. My goal was to find an honest company which treated the lowest employees with respect and which also had opportunity for upward development. God led me to Fed Mart and later at Costco which held those opportunities. Clay was in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices throughout our time together. He astounded the doctors. They could not understand how he got through so many medical disasters, which was only by the healing power of Jesus. Our family rule was "God is always first in our life" and "God's will be done" and John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, bears much fruit: for without Me you can do nothing." NKJV. Following Clay's passing, I relied heavily on II Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind". As I move into a new life in this beautiful paradise called Kerrville, I ask Jesus to take my hand and lead me in His path. My life is now fully devoted to serving Him with all my heart. Thank you to my loving church family at TBC who support me. I could not do this without you. Glori Ball Glori , we are inspired by your willingness to follow the Lord's path and we know you'll bless many along your way. As we approach 2017, may we be reminded of Romans 8:5b, 6b NLT, "those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit...letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace". We pray the Lord's peace on TBC this blessed Christmas season and in the year ahead!

Remember Me

If I were to leave this world today, I'd want to be remembered, it's true,

for going that extra mile just to show my love for you. I'd want for you to be proud of me and know I always tried.

When you hurt, I did, too; your tears I also cried. I'd want you to be compassionate to never turn away

from someone who might need a hug or encouragement one day.

I'd want you to know I'm sorry if I ever caused you pain. I hope you learn from my mistakes and

forgive me just the same. There are no second chances when God

says it's time to go.
