Chief James Clement Vann House,Spring Place, Murray County,Georgia.
Spring PlaceSpring Place was part of JamesVann’s Diamond Hill Plantation.
Vann, a member of the Cherokeenation, was a successful trader andpolitician.
His land also included taverns,Trading posts, a gristmill, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, ferriesand other assorted business.
Vann bought slaves to do labor intensive work, and hired white and Cherokee overseers to helpmaintain the property.
If you cant beat them… Chief Vann, a regional Cherokee chief
around the turn of the 18th Century, was a vocal supporter for adopting “Atlantic” tools and social behaviors.
