These videos are accessible on the user portal. Use your Practice ID as a Login. You can see your Practice ID at Configure > Practice Information… towards the bottom of the Practice Information screen:
If your Practice does not have a Practice ID entered in this field, click the Portal link to be directed to SOE Support to enable the link:
SOE Support will simply enter a number in the Practice ID field and Save the screen to enable your access.

Limitation:
Due to the large number of different digital imaging systems available it will not be possible to show you how to acquire an image in this document. When your hardware is installed please ensure that you are happy with how to use your specific system before the engineer leaves.
Basic Examine Pro operations To select an image
Double click it from the Image Library. It will appear in the selected viewport on the desktop.
To enlarge an area of the image
Right-click the area with your mouse and it will magnify that section by 300%.
To adjust the intensity by means of the mouse
Left-click and drag the pointer left or right on the image (drag to the left to darken, drag to the right to lighten).
To adjust the contrast by means of the mouse
Left click and drag up or down.
To see the image full screen
Double click on the viewport.
Troubleshooting - Cannot adjust your Desktop?
Check that it is unlocked: Go to Display > Desktop Panels and un-check (de-select) the Lock desktop option.

EXAMINE-Pro buttons
Image Library Show / Hide the Image Library.
Status
Show / Hide the status. Use to drag and drop images from the Image Library to a specific series layout.
Annotations
Add Arrows, Circles, Text and Notes in different colors and sizes on an image. This function will never affect the original image; it's like a transparent layer that you can show or hide on the screen.
Region Of Interest (ROI)
Select a particular region on an image and make changes to the specific region rather than the whole image. Can be used as crop tool.
Desktop Press-and-hold the Desktop icon to open more windows so you can view images side by side.
Zoom
The zoom window allows you to magnify the image with great precision. You can zoom in and out simply by using the mouse wheel. Also zoom using the Right Mouse Button.
Save Save the current active image.
Delete Delete the current active image
Histogram Hide or show the Histogram
Rotate Rotate the active image 90 degrees, to the right.
Horizontal Mirror
Mirror the active image horizontally.
Vertical Mirror Mirror the active image vertically.
Invert Change the positive display of an image into the negative one, or vice versa.
Print Print the current active image.
X-ray Acquisition
Perform a standard acquisition on the image and put it into the patient’s library.
X-ray Acquisition FMX
Acquire x-rays the same way the first method does, however x-rays taken will be acquired onto a mount.
Use this method to perform a full mouth series.
WDM Capture Press the icon to capture images using an intra oral camera.
Optimize Perform preset Image manipulation, as custom-configured under Options > Settings.

Reload Reload the original image.
TWAIN Scan images from any TWAIN compliant device into the program.
FMX Full Screen
Use the Full screen mount to show/print a complete series layout (Mount).
Contrast Automatically optimizes the contrast and brightness settings of the active image.
Sharpen Sharpen the active image.
Noise Reduction
Reduce the noise in the selected image.
Cosmetic Module
Launch the cosmetic module (you must have an active image selected).
Filters
Open up the filters options, allowing you to make changes to the filters which can be automatically applied to images.
Windowing
Use the Windowing Tool to control the gray scale of an image. This tool is effective on underexposed images.
Brightness / Contrast
This can be controlled by either clicking on the brightness/contrast window or by clicking on the active window and dragging the mouse:
Left/Right- Adjust Contrast | Up/Down- Adjust Brightness

Select File > Import Picture...

Annotations
Use this Annotations utility to add Arrows, Circles, Text and Notes in different colours and sizes on an activated image. Annotations will never affect the original image. They are like a transparent layer that you can show or hide on the screen, or Print.
To load an image in a viewport
1. Double-click an image from the image library.
2. Press the Annotations button.
3. Click the required option (Pointer, Text, Note (like a Pop-up) or Ellipse).
To edit an Annotation
First ensure that the Select button is pressed in, then...
To delete an annotation, click to select it, and press the delete key on your keyboard.
To change the colour of the annotation, click to select it, and then change the colour to Red, Blue or Green.
To display the buttons if you cannot see them:
The buttons for changing the colour of annotations are at the bottom of the Annot. & Measure tab of the Annotations control window.
This window opens when you click the Annotations icon .
Troubleshooting: If you can’t see the buttons, you will need to
Unlock the Desktop (Refer: Desktops, page 10)
and / or
Move the Annotations window up (click and drag by the top right corner) and then click and drag the lower right corner of the Annotations window down.
To change the size of the annotation, click to select it, then change the size with the left and right arrows.
To Save the current annotation/s
Depress the annotations button.
To see if there are annotations available on an image in the Library
A small green dot displays above the image in the image viewer.

Desktops To lock the Desktop with its current layout
Go to Display > Desktop Panels and check (tick) the Lock desktop option:
To unlock the Desktop
Go to Display > Desktop Panels and un-check (de-select) the Lock desktop option.
To see more than one image (viewport) on the Desktop
1. If necessary, unlock the Desktop (see procedure above).
2. Left-click and hold down the left mouse button to display a pop-out menu: .
3. Select the number of viewports required. For example, 3 viewports:
To move viewports around the screen
If necessary, unlock the Desktop (see procedure above), then click and drag from the top left of the box.
To resize a viewport
If necessary, unlock the Desktop (see procedure above), then click and drag from the bottom right of the box.
To discard manual viewport adjustments (size and location)
If necessary, click on Display > Desktop Panels > Autoset desktop via the menu bar, or press Cntl + Alt + D on the keyboard.

Region Of Interest
The region of interest tool allows you to capture an area of an image and then save it as a brand new image.
You can either capture a rectangular (default) or a freehand area.
To capture a freehand area in an image
1. Load the image that you require.
2. Left-click the Region Of Interest icon and hold the mouse key down. In a short space of time two icons will
pop out: .
3. Choose the button on the right.
The Region of Interest icon will change to the freehand selector, which is now active.
4. On the main image, click and hold the left mouse button, and drag the mouse pointer to draw around the area that you want:
5. Click back on the Region Of Interest icon to effectively de-select it.
On the main screen you should now see the area that you selected.
6. Use this like any other image - change contrast, zoom, etc. However, remember that this is a “zoomed in” image so further zooming in may result in a degraded image.
To return to the original image
Double-click on the image from the library.
To save a freehand-captured image
1. Click the save icon .
2. You will be prompted to save as a new image which then allows you to change the file name.
The new image will then reside in the image library and will also be available on the image list in EXACT.

Printing Images
This button allows you to print single or multiple images.
When you click it you will see this screen:
To select which images to print
Click the preview screen, then double-click an image from the image library, and repeat as necessary.
To Invert an image
With the image selected, click this icon to change the positive display of an image into the negative one, or vice versa.
To Rotate and Mirror an image
With the image selected, use these buttons to rotate the image by 90° and mirror horizontally or vertically.

Optimizing Images
This is either an automatic function or it can be a customizable function performing a sequence of configured actions.
To auto-optimize an image
1. Select a Viewport by left-clicking on it.
2. Double left-click on an image in the Image Library to load it into the selected viewport.
3. Left-click on the small A in the upper right corner of the Contrast / Intensity Combo at lower right.
The selected image will be auto-optimized. If it isn’t satisfactory, customize the optimization process as follows...
NOTE: This will require some knowledge of digital image manipulation concepts.
To optimize an image with a sequence of custom-configured actions
With the image selected, click the Optimize button. The software will perform a list of actions selected in the Actions to perform list.
To configure the Optimization button actions
The optimize can be modified in the Setup.
1. Choose Options - Setup (or press F10).
2. Press the optimize button to display the Optimize setup screen:

3. Add each desired function to the list on the right by pressing the corresponding icon.
4. The optimize function can store up to five different macros (a list of pre-set actions). They are represented, by default, as “Optimize 1” through to “Optimize 5”. To select a different optimization macro via the Button Toolbar, left click and hold the “Optimize” button and select the desired option of the 5 available.
5. You can change the name of the function by pressing on the corresponding tab and entering the desired description in the “Description:” field.
6. Press the icon to save the changes.
Reload the original image To reset all post-processing and reload the original image
Click the Reload icon to reload the original image from the image library or status. This enables you to quickly rectify unsatisfactory changes to an image. All former post-processing on the active image will be reset (brightness, contrast, pseudo-colors, orientation...)
Auto Contrast To apply automated Contrast optimization to the selected image
Click the Auto Contrast icon to automatically optimize the contrast and brightness settings of the active image.
Sharpen To enhance the edges of objects in an image (Sharpen)
Click the Sharpen icon to enhance the edges of the objects in the image. You can repeat, but at some point you may introduce noise (graininess) into the image, in which case you can apply Noise Reduction (see below).
Noise Reduction To reduce the Noise (graininess) of the selected image
Click the Noise Reduction icon to reduce the noise (graininess) of the selected image. You can repeat this function on the same image.

Zooming
Click the Zoom icon to precisely magnify the image. Click the Zoom icon again to exit Zoom.
To zoom in and out, roll the mouse wheel.
Each movement of the cursor on the loaded image will be displayed in “Real Time” in the zoom window.
In the zoom window the cursor is represented by a cross.
5 different buttons (filters) are displayed at the bottom of the zoom window.

Use the mouse pointer or the Left / Right arrow keys.
To adjust the Emboss and Gamma filters
Use the Up and Down arrow keys on the keyboard.
To Move the window on your screen
Drag from the top left of the image.
To enlarge the screen
Drag the lower right corner.
To magnify the active image by means of the mouse
Use the right mouse button as a magnifier.
To exit the Zoom function
Click the magnifier icon again.

Importing Digital Photos into EXAMINE-Pro To import digital photos into EXAMINE-Pro
1. Either
o Connect your digital camera to the PC using the cable provided, or
o Slot the memory card into the card reader.
2. If using a USB cable to connect, your workstation will generally pick the camera up as a removable drive and a screen (see below) should tell you the letter of the drive; in this case Removable Disk (E:) . You can then cancel the screen.
3. If you are using a card reader you may need to go into My Computer to find the drive letter if not prompted.
4. Select the patient details in EXACT and enter EXAMINE-Pro in the normal way (from the chart tab, Images and click on the Launch EXAMINE-Pro button).
5. Select which folder you want to import the image into from the Image Library (if relevant).
6. Go to File (top left of screen) and click onto .
7. The Import Picture… screen will pop up.
8. Select the relevant drive letter from the drop down list, double click on the required folder, select which
image file you would like to import (a preview can be seen by clicking on the file name) and rename the file if necessary.
9. Click the Import button and the Image will be saved in the Image library.

Creating Mounts In Examine Pro To create Mounts in EXAMINE-Pro
1. Click the Mount FMX button.
2. Click the drop down arrow (Mount Menu) at the far right of the screen and select New Scheme.
3. Give the scheme a new name (Bitewings, New Patient etc) and click on the tick button.
4. Select the number of x-rays required from the Add/Remove Status Box at the top left of the screen (these can be moved around the screen only if the screen is not locked, this can be done from Display > Desktop Panels and clicking onto Lock Desktop to remove the tick).
5. Click the Mount Menu and select Toolbars and Sequence Selector.
6. Click the drop down arrow (Show the Sequence Menu) and select Add/Record A Sequence.
7. Give the sequence a name and click on the green tick and click on the boxes in the order required. When finished press the Esc button.
8. Tooth notations can be added to each x-ray by selecting Image Associations from the Mount Menu and selecting which teeth are to be included and whether the image is portrait or landscape.
9. When completed click on the Mount Menu and select Save Changes.
10. To use the mount click on the X-ray Acquisition FMX button and select the new mount from the drop down lists and the x-rays will be taken in the selected order.
Exit to EXACT without closing EXAMINE-Pro To exit to EXACT without closing EXAMINE-Pro
Click the Exit icon to return to EXACT without closing EXAMINE-Pro, which will wait in the background until you need it again. It remains open to facilitate seamless integration between EXACT and EXAMINE-Pro, and all your Digital X-Rays and Images.
