Welcome To Ladakh

Ladakh is a high altitude mountainous region bounded by the Karakoram Range from the north and the Great Himalayas in the south. It is a land that abounds in awesome physical features set in an enormous and spectacular environment. Often described as ‘Moonland’ on account of the unique lunar landscape, Ladakh was an independent mountain kingdom for close to a millennium. Leh, the royal capital, was a major crossroads of Asia and a stopping point on the ancient migration routes of the trans-Himalayas, connecting Central Asia with the Indian sub-continent. Its landscape, sky, shooting stars, silence, wizened faces, rosy cheeks, dragons and Zen - everything makes Ladakh a quite place to visit. This ethereal cold desert that goes by names such as 'The Last Shangrila', Moonscape, Little Tibet and so many others - all of which ring true, is a land that seldom fails to baffle or surprise. Ladakh, the land of jagged peaks and barren landscape is alluring and awe-inspiring.

Leh:Leh is one of the famous places of Ladakh region and the main commercial hub. Airport of Ladkh is also located in Leh. Main attraction of Leh town is Namgyal Palace, which is a nine story building. Leh was an important centre of trade with Central Asia from the ancient time. It was opened for tourism activities in 1974 for tourist coming from outside countries.

Zanskar Valley:Zanskar is one of the famous tourist attractions of Ladakh region because of its picturesque valleys. It is located to the South of Leh town and surrounded by Zanskar and Himalayan ranges. The valley covers an areas of around 5,000 sq km and the average elevation is 13,154 feet. One has to cross through some of the highest passes of the world to reach this region, which remain closed during the winter months because of the snowfall. It is very famous for its trekking routes.

Nubra Valley: Nubra Valley means Valley of Flowers and is located to the North side of Leh town. The average height of the valley above sea level is about 10,000 feet. Main attractions of the region are Bactarian Camels (Camels with double hump), some of the beautiful ancient monasteries and Khardung La Pass, at an altitude of 18,350 feet.

Buddhist Monasteries in Ladakh:Ladakh is world over famous for its Buddhist monasteries, which are also known by the name of Gompas. These monasteries house a number of Thankas, paintings and ancient Buddhist sculptures. Some of the famous Buddhist monasteries of Ladakh are Likir Monastery, Spituk Monastery, Shanti Stupa, Hemis Gompa, Namgyal Tsemao Gompa, Thiksey Monastery, Lamayuru Monastery, Shey Monastery and Phugal Gompa.

Tso Moriri Lake:It is a beautiful water body bounded by mountains, which expands around 240 km. It is located at an altitude of 14,000 feet near to the Korzok village. It is located to the East direction of Leh town.

Pangong Lake:This beautiful lake is 2.4 miles in width, which is located at an altitude of 4,267 meters above sea level. Turquoise colour of its water is the main attraction of the lake. 75 percent area of this lake is located in China and 25 percent in India.

Day 1: Srinagar-Sonamarg-Kargil- (205 kms): After breakfast leave for Kargil, driving through Sonamarg and crossing the Zoji-la pass (11,500-ft./ 3,505 mtrs) enroute. Day 2: Kargil-Leh (235 kms): Early departure for Leh, enroute viewing / visiting the dramatically located Lamayuru monastery and the adjoining ‘Moonland” hills. Day 2: Leh:After leisurely breakfast visit Shey Palace, Sindhu Ghat & Thiksey Monastery. Post lunch at the hotel, visit Sankar Gompa & Leh Palace and then drop in the city centre to explore at your own pace. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Leh-Pangong Lake –Leh:Early departure for Pangong Lake (approx. 150 kms), via Chang-la pass (alt: 17370 ft./ 5486 meters)-3rd highest motorable pass in the world. Pangong Lake (alt: 14,500 ft.) is 4-5 kms wide and about 140 kms long, of which about two-third lies on the other side of the Indo-China border. Day 4: Leh – Nubra Valley :After breakfast leave for Nubra Valley, driving across Khardong-la (alt: 18,380 ft.), highest motorable pass in the world, recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Driving on to Kargil via the Fotu-la & Namika-la passes, reach Mulbek where you can view the 9-Mtrs. tall rock sculpture of the Maitreya Buddha (7th –8th century AD) standing on the roadside. Day 8: Kargil-Sonamarg-Srinagar (205kms): Early departure for Srinagar via Drass, Zojila pass & Sonamarg. Drass is famous as the second coldest inhabited place in the world. From the pass we descend towards Koksar – an official tea stop, we at meet Chadra River (coming from Spiti) and continue to Keylong. Overall terrain is fine except some bumps over the Rohtang pass. Day 3: Keylong–Sarchu ( 110 km): 4253 m, Morning drive to Sarchu , over crossing Baralacha pass (4892 m). We follow the Bhaga River via Darcha till Patseo and then assent to Baralacha pass and then descend towards Sarchu. You have to negotiate with the bumps at some places and have to soak in water while crossing Small River. Arrive Sarchu, is the territorial mark between Himachal and Ladakh. Check in and overnight at camp.

Day 4: Sarchu–Rumste ( 180 km): 5000 m, Morning we leave been chanting composite of Sarchu-lingtiplains, the road climbs higher and suddenly mountains cape encounter so far. Continuesly drive over the Lapchungla pass to be followed by the drive through the most remarkable Sekyunehothang plains at the end of Tanglangla pass (5328 mtrs) considered as one of the highest motorable mountain pass in the world. We camp at Rumtse located at the foot of the mighty Tanglangla pass after driving over the pass. O/n at camp.

Day 5: Rumste- Leh ( 100 KM): After breakfast drive to Leh through the fertile Indus valley. First we visit the Monastery Padmasambhavas, Buddhismus from Tibet after ladakh. Afterwards Tikse, the Grobten Monastery still visits in Ladakh in Gelupka. Afternoon arrive Leh and check into hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Leh Sightseeing:After leisurely breakfast, proceed on a full day sightseeing & cultural tour of Shey Palace, Sindhu Ghat, Thiksey Monastery, Hemis Monastery & Stok Palace Musuem. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3:Leh –Uleytokpo :After breakfast leave for Lamayuru (127 kms.) which is believed to be the oldest site where a Buddhist monastery was founded during the 11th century AD. Lamayuru monastery is famous for the spectacular setting with the unique ‘Moonland” hills forming its backdrop. After sightseeing & lunch here drive back on the Leh road till Uleytokpo / Nurla and then check-in at a fixed camp / hut camp. Dinner & overnight at the camp / huts resort.

Day 4: Uleytokpo-Leh:After breakfast drive towards Leh, enroute visiting the 11th century Alchi Choskor, oldest surviving monastic heritage of Ladakh- a UNESCO listed heritage site. Thereafter drive back to Leh, enroute visiting the 15th century Likir monastery, Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers), Magnetic Point, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Kali Mata (Temple of Guardians in Spituk monastery) & Hall of Fame (museum of Military heritage culture). Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Leh-Nubra Valley:After breakfast leave for Nubra Valley, driving across Khardong-la (alt: 18,380 ft.), highest motorable pass in the world, recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. After descending from the pass, drive on for sightseeing of Samstaling Monastery in the Sumoor area. Later check- in at a fixed tent / hut camp in the same valley OR drive across to Deskit / Hundar for overnight stay in a camp or a hotel. Dinner & overnight at the camp / hotel.

Day 6:Nubra Valley-Leh:In the morning, drive to / explore Deskit (headquarters of Nubra), Hundar and the Sand Dunes. You can enjoy a short camel safari amidst the sand dunes on the double humped Bactrian camels (optional). In the afternoon return to Leh, enroute visiting the dramatically located 15th century Deskit monastery. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: Leh –Pangong Lake- Leh :Early departure for Pangong Lake (approx. 150 kms), via Chang-la pass (alt: 17370 ft./ 5486 meters)-3rd highest motorable pass in the world. Pangong Lake (alt: 14,500 ft.) is 4-5 kms wide and about 140 kms long, of which about two-third lies on the other side of the Indo-China border. After sightseeing around the lake, drive back to Leh, reaching in the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8: Leh:Leisurely day at Leh day for rest after the long journey to Pangong Lake. In the afternoon visit Sankar Gompa, Leh Palace & the markets. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: Leh-Tsomoriri / Korzok (15070 ft. / 220 kms.)Early departure for Tsomo-riri Lake (alt: 15,000 ft.) driving past Chumathang (hot springs), Mahe Bridge and Puga Sumdo. Tsomoriri Lake (28 km long & about 8 km wide) is the breeding ground of many migratory birds including the rare bar-headed geese. The village & monastery of Korzok located on the banks of the lake is the only settled population in the area which is otherwise roamed by the nomadic Changpa tribes. Dinner & overnight in fixed tent camp or Guest House.

Day 10: Tsomoriri-Tsokar-Taglangla-Leh (17582 ft.)-Leh-approx 200 kms):After breakfast retrace the route till Puga Sumdo and then follow the road to the Polokongka (4920 mtrs), a tabletop pass which leads to Tsokar Lake, a salt lake system in the Rupsho area, home of the Changa nomads and support many rare wild life species. After sightseeing of the area, take the Manali-Leh road to return to Leh, en-route crossing the Taglang-la pass (alt: 17,585ft) Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11: Leh:Free day at Leh for rest & recuperation from the long journeys. In the afternoon you may visit & explore the markets at your own pace for shopping etc. Overnight at the hotel.

Day12:Departure Leh:Early morning transfer to the airport for taking the homewards flight .

Day 1: Arrive Chandigarh-Manali ( 350 km): Arrive Chandigarh. On arrival transfer to hotel at Manali. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Manali - Sarchu (222 Kms): Early morning pickup from Manali Hotel and head for Sarchu, driving across Rohtang Pass (13050 ft) and passing through Keylong, Jispa and Dracha and then cross the Baralacha Pass (16020 ft) to arrive at Sarchu in the late afternoon. Overnight in fixed camp at Sarchu.

Day 3: Sarchu - Leh (255 Kms): After early breakfast leave for Leh en-route crossing Nakeela and Lachalung-la Pass (16,617 ft.). Break for lunch at Pang and then drive on towards Leh passing through Skyangchu Thang (a vast plateau stretching for 42 kms) and then crossing Taglang-La (17,585ft) and driving through the upper Indus Valley. Reach Leh by evening. Overnight in hotel.

Day 4: In Leh: visit the town and surrounds: The morning is at leisure for rest after the long journey. After lunch visit Shanti Stupa, Sankar Gompa, Leh Palace & the markets. Overnight at the hotel.


Day 6: Pangong-Hemis / Thiksey-Leh (165 kms.): After breakfast, leave Pangong / Tangtse and retrace the Leh route across Chang-la. Upon reaching Karu, drive across the Indus and visit the famous Hemis Monastery, biggest monastery of Ladakh. Later drive on to Leh, enroute visiting the picturesque Thiksey monastery. Overnight in hotel.

Day 7: Leh - Nubra Valley (125 kms.): After breakfast leave for Nubra Valley, driving across Khardong-la (alt: 18,380 ft). After descending from the pass, drive on for sightseeing of Sumoor area and Samstaling Gompa. Later check into a fixed camp in the same area or drive across to Deskit / Hundar for overnight in a fixed camp or hotel.

Day 8: Nubra Valley - Leh (125 kms.):In the morning visit / explore Deskit , Hundar and the Sand Dunes where you can enjoy a short camel safari using the double-humped Bactrian camel found here (optional on direct payment). Day 9: Leh-Alchi / Uleytokpo: (70 kms.):

After leisurely breakfast drive down the Indus Valley on the first leg of your journey to Kargil & Srinagar. On the way, visit Hall of Fame, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Point, Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers) and then the 11th century Alchi Choskor, oldest surviving monastic complex famous for its wall frescoes and architecture - a UNESCO listed heritage site. Overnight in fixed camp / resort at Uleytokpo.

Day 10:Uleytokpo: Lamayuru-Kargil (135 kms.): After breakfast leave for Kargil, enroute visiting the dramatically located Lamayuru monastery and the adjoining “Moonland” hills. On the way to Kargil you can view the 9-Mtrs. tall rock sculpture of the Maitreya Buddha at Mulbek (7th –8th century AD). Overnight in hotel at Kargil.

Day 11:Kargil-Sonamarg-Srinagar (205kms): Early departure for Srinagar driving through Drass (famous as the second coldest inhabited place in the world) and crossing the Zoji-la Pass (11,500-ft. / 3,505 m) to reach hill station of Sonamarg from where it’s smooth driving through the beautiful Kashmir countryside to reach Srinagar. Overnight in hotel at Srinagar.

Day 12:Departure Srinagar : Early morning transfer to the airport for taking the flight back home

Please Note:-

1. Sequence of the day-wise tour program as listed above may change depending upon availability of suitable accommodation at different places and other travel conditions.

2. Overnight staying options at Pangong Lake & Tsomo-riri Lake are mainly in tented accommodation/standard cottage with basic & limited facilities. Visitors must be prepared to pass the night at a place where temperature may be quite low even at the height of the summer. The stress of passing the night at high altitude is also to kept in mind.

3. Overnight staying option in the Uleytokpo, Nubra Valley is mainly in tented accommodation or standard hotels with facilities which may not be of the same standard as in the hotels being used for the package in Leh.

4. All prevailing State and Government taxes applicable on accommodation and transport. In case any hike in the taxes a surcharge will be applicable

5. Suggested hotels are subject to availability at the time of booking. In case the same is not available, then the best similar category will be provided

6. The tour cost is not refundable at any cause, once tour starts. No refund on un-utilized services of the packages. Places / sites not visited as per the given tour route of the day, the same spot will not be revisited on guest’s request except on extra payment.

7. The tour guide reserves the rights to make changes/detour or omit any place of visit, if it becomes necessary due to bad weather, bad road, strike or band and security reason

8. Tourist will carry their luggage at own risk and responsibility.

9. Itinerary may change due to any climatic condition / non availability of rooms /other natural circumstances.

10. Ladakh is high Altitude destination; hence Ladakh trip is not recommended for people with poor heart condition, Epilepsy and asthma.

11. Ladakh holiday trip is completely different from other holiday, please realize the hazards involved in this kind of holiday; including injury, disease, inconvenience and discomfort due to weather, mechanical breakdown, local political conditions or other unforeseeable circumstances.

12. In Tent accommodation maximum 03 pax are allowed due to limited space.

13. The tourism infrastructure of Ladakh region is not very advanced & one should not expect & match the hotel & transport service with the plains & other developed destinations. Flexibility is the whole philosophy of this type of tour. One requires and allows on trip alternatives due to untoward reasons.
