Environmental Portfolio : Solid Waste Bioprocessing

Solid waste generated in India will touch a figure of 150,000

MT/Day on pan India basis by the year 2015 and expected

to grow @ 5.0 % pa while the urban population is expected

to grow @ 3.5 % pa.

The facilities to handle Solid Waste can be Solid Waste to

Manure, Solid Waste to power, waste to fuel and waste to

Engineered Sanitary Landfill (ESLF).

Over the last 3 years EWE has worked on an innovative design of an 1800 TPD eSLF facility for a leading

EPC player.

The technologies worked out by EWE are compact and efficient; thereby saving a significant cost in

transportation and treatment.

The IBT Technology reduces the composting time from 200 hours to 30 hours, with 75% savings in space

and without any odour emission.

A case in point is the aftermath of leaked industrial vapours from Union Carbide factory in Bhopal

in 1984. An economic study of the health impacts and associated costs of air pollution of

Southern California shows that more than 3800 people die prematurely (approximately 14 years

earlier than normal) each year because air pollution.

EWE and its design team treats major pollutants such as SOx, NOx, CO, CO2, VOC, PM, CFC,
