NEWS "Debut of SMPS News Letter" Message from Sukumar M. Parikh It is a proud moment that “SMPS News Letter” is making a debut today. While this SMPS News letter is the first one to be published, it is planned that it comes out quarterly. The editorial board has taken-up the task with enthusiasm. Efforts from various contributors have added value and interest to this issue. They all deserve compliments. Such a News Letter will help bring about: A sense of 'camaraderie' amongst all members of SMPS as well as their family members. Therefore it will be essential that all members share their and their family news and achievements, in this News Letter. The News Letter invites creative articles, photographs and other contributions by family members, which could be taken-up for publication in future issues. The News Letter will provide a vehicle for publication of such original works by the staff and their family members. • The News Letter will serve a link between different staff and their family members to exchange news about noteworthy events. Today SMPS stands tall in its professional career and we, all at SMPS are proud to be associated with such a firm. It has carved out a niche for itself in the field of planning and designs in numerous industrial fields, may they be in: With an in-house strength of nearly 100 persons, it has developed an interdisciplinary faculty of civil, structural and architectural engineering as well as power electricals, HVAC and Utility Engineering. Such an overall line-up gives SMPS an edge in its planning and design engineering efforts. With a background of decades of experience with numerous industries, SMPS has substantial synergetic and tactical advantages. All such achievements rightly belong to all of us, who are dedicated and hardworking persons, firmly committed to SMPS and its work ethics. It is also non- bureaucratic and a highly flexible organization. Early on, in its journey in building a professional organization, SMPS had decided to be “Consultants to Industry”. And now I would like to add one bar further and call ourselves It was therefore very gratifying to learn that when the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi visited Japan, in the recent past, leading a business mission in August 2007 accompanied by industrialist - business people from Gujarat, SMPS Consultants was one consultant from Gujarat, who had as many as 12 clients going to Japan on this trip. Some of these industry leaders were: • Shri Chetanbhai Tamboli, • Shri Gautambhai Adani, • Shri Jayantibhai Patel, • Shri Karsanbhai Patel, • Shri Nitinbhai Shukla, Smt. Free medical check-up camps are organized by charitable trusts Prarthana Samaj and National Association with active support of noted Doctors from nearby Al-Amin Hospital. Personnel from SMPS actively organized this full day event.

OUR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SMPS staff is ever eager to volunteer their time and efforts to fulfill their social responsibilities.

Blood donation camps are organized through 'Red Cross' participation two to three times every year. Volunteers donated blood time and again.

RATED CHESS PLAYER SHIKHA IS A WINNER

Outstanding performances by 13 year old Shikha, daughter of our Rupal Shah, has won her titles (1st position) 9 times and runners-up (2nd position) 7 times in the age groups of U-11 to U-25 at Gujarat State Level Chess Championships.Her tally of trophies won at state & city level competitions is 34 and has represented Gujarat at National Level Competitions 8 times. Earlier, Shikha started learning chess at the age of 10 years. Last year in July 2006, she achieved the creditable FIDE Chess rating of 1993 by competiting against 9 rated players of India in a single tournament National Sub-juniors at Vishakhapatnam.

'Magic' show was organized where children and adults alike were thrilled!

SMPS FUN CLUB PAST EVENTS FUN AND FROLIC

'Garba' most popular Gujarati folk dance form has been a part of SMPS Staff activities. 'Sheri Garba' where everyone participated with verve was celebrated last year.

'Mimicry' programmes are always popular where seriousness gives way to carefree atmosphere filled with laughter. This was organized early this year.

Much-awaited annual get-together of SMPS staff and their families was enthusiastically celebrated after Diwali last year. Games and sports for children and adults created uproarious ambience and generated a great sense of camaraderie.
