Point Creation

These tools are used to place layout points inside a Revit project. The user may also add them to library content of their own by nesting them to a static location within a family. Relationships need to be linked to control the specified fields. Create Points can be defined by a parameter and grouped together. Create Points Linked let you add points to a DWG linked file. You can place those points individually.

To begin, select Create Points and left click in the active view. There will be a window that pops up asking you to create a Group, Number and Description criteria for the points you are placing. The Description will drop down to give you sorting field based on parameters. By default it will be set to Phase Created.

When ready to place points, select OK and being hovering over a known point you want to create. If a node is available, it will glow a square symbol. Left click to place and proceed. To continue to the next point, hit escape 2x then the spacebar. Then, you can select the next point. It is recommended that you follow a raceway along its path when placing points for them so that your points aren’t scattered. To finish the sequence, hit escape 3x.

To add more points, you can repeat the tool. Select the next Group (Group 2 etc.) assignment, Number and Description fields. Repeat page 41.

To export points, either pre-select the points, then the Point Exporter tool, or Select the Point exporter and make your selections. The selected point will show up in the Points Window.

Click Export to send a .csv file.

To import points, select the button and load a .csv file that contains the points.

Check Points will load the selected points into model space. If there are points in the same location you will get a message like below.

To compare your points that were exported vs. points that are coming back for validation, select the existing points and override the color in view. Choose a color that will help you compare. Bring in the new points using import and check points with the .csv file from the field layout. When the new points come in, it will be easy to compare so you can make changes for your federated model.
