Working of Laser Printer using Electro Photographic Technology

A laser printer is an electronic device used for printing purposes which works with non-impact (keys don’t strike the paper), photocopier technology. This printer utilize laser technology that facilitate printing of any document.

Evolution of Laser Printer:

The first was developed in 1971 by Xerox (a leading company), and in 1977, it was introduced by commercial market. The rapid, amazing and quality printing made these printers a worldwide choice for many consumers all over the world.

Laser Printer works with six basic steps to print something

STEP-1:

Charging of Photo-conductor A photosensitive surface shaped like a drum called as photo-conductor is uniformly charged with static electricity by a corona discharge.

STEP-2:

Creation of invisible image

Then the charged photo-conductor is pass over an optical image through light to discharge it sensitivity and forms a latent (invisible) image.

STEP-3:

Use Toner to print for making visible images

Creation of the image or print is done by spreading toner (a dry powder) over the surface, which spreads only on the charged areas where the image is placed on the file, thereby making invisible image visible.

STEP-4:

Transfer of developed image to paper

At this step an electrostatic field transfers the developed image from the photosensitive surface to a printable paper usually having fixed size. Then this image is permanently prints on the paper, by spreading the toner with a moderate heat and pressure.

STEP: 5

Cleaning and storing excessive toner

Then excessive toner get store in storage device for future use and spread one gets cleaned by the user.

STEP: 6

Discharging of photo-conductor

At last photo-conductor tube gets discharge with the switch off the electricity.
