Together weve travelled the world for many years constantly searching for perfect trails and the best powder descents. We have discovered many fantastic spots and perfect runs even in the most remote locations on this planet.

It wasn t always easy finding the right equipment for our trips. It was particularly hard to find backpacks and bags on the market that met our requirements. So our solution was to make them ourselves!

This is how we started developing and producing equipment that met our requirements, initially only for our-selves and our friends. The result was

a range of high-quality, sophisticated products with refined details and clever features that looked good as well. What we had not expected was the increasing number of people who wanted our gear.

So, in 2008, the idea of founding our own company was born.

Since then a lot has changed for us, but then again very little has changed. We continue to focus on uncom-promising quality, functionality and durability to set the standard in terms of design, comfort and safety. We still travel the world as much as we can with our sports equipment mean-while, often also with our business

gear. In doing so, we test all our prod-ucts ourselves and we invest a great deal of time and energy in optimizing our solutions down to the smallest details.

We communicate our passion for sports and for what we do in every product. Thats why EVOC products are always a bit more than just pieces of equipment.

The snow walls on the sides of the street are so high that you cant make out much of the scenery around you. But never mind, its snowing so heavily anyhow that you can hardly see your hand in front of your face. So this is what the worst winter here in years is all about?!

We are in Kiroro, a small non-descript ski resort in the backcountry of Hokkaido, one of the most snow-prone places in Japan. According to our host and tour guide Satoshi, however, the snow should be at least two metres deeper at this time of the year, namely early January. He reckons that the bamboo tips are still jutting out in places because the snow coverage is only 3 metres, which also means that many of the pillow lines are not yet as good as they usually are. That doesnt matter to us though, as back home in the Northern Alps there has been no snow at all yet this year, and this looks like true winter wonderland!

Naturally, the entire crew is highly inspired to get going. Pow(d)er to the Max is the motto from the first run onwards, and its completely irrelevant to us that we are a mixed group of snowboarders and skiers: After the first turn all that is left of the riders anyhow is a huge snow cloud that floats between the trees for seconds. This is a real problem when youre following because you cant see a thing but even more so for our photographer, who has nothing but a large selection of snow cloud shots on his hard disk after the first day of shooting. His request for a bit more control during our turns meets with very little interest though, because it takes a huge amount of self-composure to discipline yourself in clear forest runs in waist-deep powder snow. The options for lurching off snow-covered hills, through low treetops before landing softly in a true explosion of powder snow with just the right momentum to take off again immediately without feeling any

resistance are far too tempting. And again, and again, and again!Together with Satoshi we explore the best locations in the area and try to find something special every day. We dig through masses of snow in the backcountry, climb avalanche barriers covered in deep snow and make our way through chest-deep powder to first-class runs and all the while its snowing non-stop, day and night. We spend all our time outdoors, from early morning till night, to make sure we definitely dont miss any of the great snow. Luckily, in addition to great food, there is another Japanese speciality that helps keep us going: the Onsen, hot sulphur baths. You find them everywhere. Visiting them is like swimming in a fountain of youth, and when youre warm and soaked from the bath you already look forward to the next day of deep in Japan, even before you go to bed.

Revolutionary: the LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM AIR offers the first-ever combination of a completely ventilated carrying system and TV/GS approved protector. The idea behind the area of the back is one of ventilation for ascents and protection for descents.

By using high-tech materials and developing new shapes we succeeded in creating the perfect companion especially for touring the FR GUIDE BLACKLINE. The main focus during development was on maximum ventilation and, at the same time, ultimate carrying comfort. A wide hip belt and the use of our ultra-flexible signature loop fabric AIRO FLEX help distribute the weight of the backpack load onto the hips. The extremely breathable material also ensures that excessive heat can escape during high-strain activities, which significantly reduces moisture as a result of perspiration. The gabled perforations of the back padding further optimise air circulation in the contact areas of the back. This also means that the body-hugging fit (an essential safety feature) of the integrated back protector is even more comfortable.

To prove compliance with these standards, a tapered, 5 kg test weight drops onto the protector from 1 metre height. To meet the requirements, the generated impact force of the steel body of 150 180 kN must be slowed down to an average residual force of a maximum of 18 kN. Reaching a residual force of only 9,75 kN, the EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR offers damping capabilities which are almost twice as effective as the standards require.

The typical shock absorption curve is relatively pointed for most protectors so the impact energy hits the body in a very direct manner. The EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR, however, offers a segmented layer construction to guarantee perfect damping. The absorption curve is very flat. The impact force is distributed onto a series of elements and thus, onto a larger area, which helps considerably reduce the direct impact onto the wearers body.

LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM

The heart of the system is the extra-wide, ergonomically shaped 01 neoprene hip belt with Velcro fastening and large heavy-duty buckles, which transfers the main load to the hips, thereby positioning the pack optimally at the bodys centre of gravity. The ergonomically designed shoulder straps keep the backpack comfortably in place.

Proximity to the body is important for 02 back protectors, and this has been optimized for maximum possible ventilation by way of air mesh elements, EVA pads with ventilation holes and a large ventilation channel in the centre.

LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM AIR

Besides the main focus on protection, load trans-fer and great carrying comfort, emphasis has also been placed on providing the completely newly developed LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM AIR with maximum ventilation. The key challenge here was to combine proximity to the body, which is a prerequisite for back protectors, with the highest degree of air ventilation. In addition to the large, central ventilation channel, the close-fitting back area has been equipped with 2 rows of ventilation grids: EVA foam strips 02 with ventilation holes

and an air mesh covering, together with a special, oblique gabled groove reduce the contact area with the back, thereby enhancing the circulation of air. The extra-wide, ergonomically shaped hip belt 01 on this carrying system is made from highly elastic, looped fabric, which provides the necessary sturdiness as well as maximum air permeability. In this way, the main load is transferred to the hips, where it is fixed, while optimum breathability is ensured even in the case of fully laden backpacks.

AIRO FLEX

The AIRO FLEX is both air-permeable and flexible, which guarantees perfect ventilation at all times. We use this material in our hip belts, where

it provides superior wearing comfort even during high-strain activities thanks to its ventilation characteristics.

AIR CIRCULATION

The AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM is featured in all our BLACKLINE backpacks, because it guarantees perfect ventilation even during high-sweat and high-strain activities. Lateral cut-outs along the channel enable

even more air to flow out. In addition, the padding along the sides of the back has been reduced to further optimise air outflow, without restricting the carrying comfort.

Innovative technology for high-end performance. Our BLACKLINE combines the successful technology standard of our PROTECTOR BACKPACKS with the revo-lutionary, innovative LITESHIELD CARRYING SYSTEM AIR. THE DAM CHALLENGE: It was a classic day when we did our photo shoot in Japan. After being woken up early, we took the van to find spots that we could reach from the road. Our Tetris-style on-boarding process had already become routine, and it wasnt long before we were all on the right seat. We soon came to a really impressive dam, and even through the car window I caught sight of this snowed-in ledge. Together with the crew, we took a closer look at things. Do-able or not? The consequences of a potential fall seemed very serious: On the left there was drop of several metres down into some kind of concrete chambers, while on the right there was a steep chute into an ice water basin with no exit option. Lets skip that is what I thought at first, but after ten more minutes of intense checking of the site from all perspectives I thought: This would just be so unbelievably cool! A safety team was compiled, and I was fitted with a protector vest and climbing harness so the guys could pull me out of the freez-ing water, as a last resort. A short time later I was already up on the dam. One more check to eliminate any remaining doubts before climbing onto the wall with my skies. Who said I was comfortable with heights? And then it was time to Drop in! Tataaa, shot taken. Thanks guys, that was great!

AIR CIRCULATION

The AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM is featured in all our TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE backpacks, because it guarantees perfect ventilation even during high-sweat and high-strain activities, and at the same time prevents the sensitive kidney area from cooling down too much. Lateral cut-outs along the channel enable even more air to flow out. In addition, the padding along the sides of the back has been reduced to further optimise air outflow.

However, the sensitive back area is protected against lateral wind thanks to the padding of the NEUTRALITE CARRYING SYSTEM. Not only do the pads form the channel to facilitate vertical ventilation, they also protect the wearer from horizontal air inflow and cold kidneys.

NEUTRALITE CARRYING SYSTEM

Designed for ambitious to professional use, the new NEUTRALITE CARRYING SYSTEM is for high-capacity backpacks, which means that even heavier loads can be carried in a more balanced way and as comfortably as possible for a longer period of time. Back adaption and weight distribu-tion are guaranteed by the shapeable stabilising element on the inside, which transfers the weight onto a wide, thickly padded hip belt (01) via segmented and strategically positioned padding elements. In this way, the weight is absorbed as neutrally as possible at the bodys centre of gravity. Exceptionally wide, well-padded, ergonomicallyshaped shoulder straps (02) with a deep cut-out around the neck keep the backpack in positionat all times and prevent it from slipping and sliding even during high-performance activities. Practical cut-outs in the spinal region ensure unrestricted freedom of movement of the vertebrae, while preventing weight distribution onto the sensitive back area.

the big fir trees. Blake worked his magic with his flashes, and all I did was just ski... the best part of being out shooting. Action sports photography has always been an integral part of EVOCs history, and it soon became obvious that there was no way around developing our own PHOTO backpack collection.

Designed for ambitious to professional use, the new NEUTRALITE CARRYING SYSTEM is a carrying system for high-capacity backpacks, which means that even heavier loads can be carried in a more balanced way and as comfortably as possible for a longer period of time. Back adaption and weight distribution are guaranteed by the shapeable sta-bilising element on the inside, which transfers the weight onto a wide, thickly padded hip belt 01 via segmented and strategically positioned padding elements. In this way, the weight is absorbed

as neutrally as possible at the bodys centre of gravity. Exceptionally wide, well-padded, ergonom-ically shaped shoulder straps 02 with a deep cut-out around the neck keep the backpack in position at all times and prevent it from slipping and sliding even during high-performance activities. Practical cut-outs in the spinal region ensure unrestricted freedom of movement of the verte-brae, while preventing weight distribution onto the sensitive back area.

AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM

The AIR CIRCULATION SYSTEM is featured in all our PHOTO /CAMERA backpacks, because it guarantees perfect ventilation even during high-sweat and high-strain activities, and at the same time prevents the sensitive kidney area from cooling down too much. Lateral cut-outs along the channel enable even more air to flow out. In addition, the padding along the sides of the back has been reduced to further optimise air outflow.

However, the sensitive back area is protected against lateral wind thanks to the padding of the NEUTRALITE CARRYING SYSTEM. Not only do the pads form the channel to facilitate vertical ventila-tion, they also protect the wearer from horizontal air inflow and cold kidneys.

AIRO FLEX AIRO FLEX is an extremely durable fabric that is both air-permeable and flexible. We use this material in our highest-quality hip belts, where

it ensures excellent load distribution to the hips as well as maximum ventilation for superior wearing comfort.

his shot was taken late in the evening on the way back from a long and exhausting day during our photo shoot in Japan. The entire crew was already asleep when I spotted

the location through the car window by chance. There was a small slope next to a tunnel which was lit just enough by the street lights to enable you to see enough to ride it with the snowboard. The guys werent too enthusiastic at first since this meant getting out of the warm car yet again and digging a parking space in pretty high snow walls... But once Renilla had tracked his way through chest-deep powder to the starting point and the external flash was positioned near the trees, it was all quite simple: set a focal point, choose exposure and shutter settings, synchronise the flashes and: Action! Renilla caught the perfect spot for his turn right away, and my idea of highlighting a massive powder spray from behind worked perfectly at the very first attempt. What do you think?
