" Evidence-informed health policy-making in Low and Middle-Income Countries: an
international forum."
In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 28 to 30 August 2012
The International Forum is hosted by SURE - Supporting the Use of Research Evidence
in African Health Systems, a research consortium funded by the European
Commission’s 7th Framework Programme, together with the WHO Evidence-Informed
Policy Network (EVIPNet) and the Regional East African Community Health (REACH)
Policy Initiative. The local host is the Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute
(ENHRI), which houses the EVIPNet Ethiopia team.
The aims of the International Forum are:
• To share experiences with (and resources for) evidence-informed health
policymaking (EIHP) in low and middle-income countries.
• To identify opportunities for improving country-level efforts to support EIHP in
low and middle-income countries.
• To provide an opportunity for networking among initiatives to support EIHP.
Participants are policy-makers, researchers, representatives of civil society
organizations, journalists—all “doers” of evidence-informed policy-making striving to
unite the science and the action in knowledge translation. Dr Tewodros Adhanom, The
Minister of Health will open the event.
The Forum will predominantly use small group, interactive approaches rather than
large plenary sessions and didactic presentations. On the days prior to the forum, with
the generous support of IDRC, participants will organise a doctoral students workshop
and a one day workshop with journalists and representatives of civil society
organizations working with evidence-informed policy-making. Regional and global
EVIPNet meetings will launch the EVIPNet Strategic Plan for 2012-2015.
Organizers will prepare a final report with the main findings from the small groups
discussions. This report will be soon disseminated by EVIPNetNews.
