It’s your job to find out how to solve the problem that’s keeping the person from ac!ng.
Sin #1: Ignoring the problem
solve their problem first
not sure what is important to them
Sin #2: Wrong content.
Do your research. Look at what topics your audience is sharing, ar!cles they are wri!ng and events they a"end.
We can only consume so much
Most will only spend a total 4 minutes with your pitch deck; looking at slides 2, 6, and 8.
Sin #3: Too much content.
the right order is what makes sense to them
Sin #4: Wrong order.
This is not one size fits all. Your pitch order will depend on the person(s) in the room and what is important to them.
Make them care to pay attention
Sin #5: Killer opening (not the good kind).
Stop making it all about you. Instead, try star!ng out by asking ques!ons to s!r the pitch in your favor.
Stop burying the leadGet down to their level. Have a good idea before the
mee!ng of what you want from them.
Sin #6: Abstract content.
avoid cloning the same content on everythingMake your pitch presenta!on focused on the problem/solu!on. Make your one-sheet read more like a company fact sheet. Make your
website a resource for both.
Sin #7: Wrong format
learn when to stop
Bonus Sin: Non-stop pitching
Not every coffee date, networking event, or mee!ng is an opportunity to pitch.
