Farewell Plan

A dignified cremation with a service at one of our parlours.

Our Farewell Plan provides a dignified and affordable cremation funeral where the service takes place within a Fosters parlour. If you prefer to use a third party venue, such as a hotel or social club a £100 contribution towards the cost of this will be provided.

A complimentary limousine is included within this plan which will travel from the family home to the venue where the service is being held. The service will then be carried out by your chosen officiant, where your chosen music and readings can be included. After the service an unattended cremation will be conducted, and the ashes returned for collection at a Fosters parlour.

Simple Plan

A simple, yet respectful service at a crematorium or cemetery of your choice.

Our Simple Plan is available for both burials and cremations. This plan includes a financial contribution towards an attended service at the crematorium or cemetery of your choice. If you are comfortable with being assigned a day and time of the funeral and don’t wish for a flexible funeral cortege with limousines then this plan is perfect for you. On the day, a hearse and funeral personnel will travel from a Fosters parlour to where the service is being conducted. The service will then be carried out by your chosen officiant, where your chosen music and readings can be included.

Personalised Plan

A meaningful service, tailored to your wishes, the Fosters way.

Our Personalised Plan offers you the most flexibility when it comes to arranging a funeral. Available for both burials and cremations this plan includes a financial contribution towards an attended service at the crematorium or cemetery of your choice. Your family will be able to mutually agree the day and time of the funeral and choose the route of the funeral cortege which includes a modern hearse and one limousine for your family. On the day, the funeral cortege will travel from a Fosters parlour to the family home before making its way to where the service is being conducted. The service will then be carried out by your chosen officiant, where your chosen music and readings can be included.

What are contribution elements?

Our plans also include financial contributions towards the cost of services. This happens when a service included within the plan is being provided by a third party or is likely subject to availability at the time of the funeral. We describe these as contribution elements.

To help protect your family from being asked to pay more at the time of the funeral the contribution included within the plan is normally slightly higher than the cost of the service today. However to ensure that you do not pay too much, should the cost of the service be less at the time of the funeral then the surplus will be refunded to your family.

The financial contributions included within your plan will grow over time. The growth applied is guaranteed to be 0.5% and is applied to your plan annually*.

* If the plan is being paid for using the 12 Monthly Instalments option the growth is applied after the plan is fully paid. If the plan is paid for using the 10 Year Payment Plan then the growth is applied after paying into the plan consecutively for a minimum of two years from the plan start date.

3. Ten year payment plan

If you are aged between 40 and 74 you can pay over 10 years.

This is a monthly payment option payable over 10 years. No medical history is required and after two years of continuous payments, you are fully covered should you pass away.

4. Fixed monthly payments

If you are aged between 50 and 74 you can pay with fixed monthly payments.

This is a monthly payment plan option that needs to be paid for life or until the anniversary of the plan following your 90th birthday. No medical history is required and after two years of continuous payments, you are fully covered should you pass away.

FAQ’s

What if I’m not in good health?

We promise to accept your application, regardless of your state of health.

If you have chosen to spread the cost and were to pass away before all payments have been paid, your family will either need to pay the remaining balance of the Funeral Plan to receive the funeral services or cancel the Funeral Plan. In this instance we would refund all payments made less the cancellation charge of £299.

If you have chosen our 10 year payment plan or fixed monthly payment plan your funeral costs are only covered after you have been paying into the Funeral Plan for at least two years. In the sad event that you pass away within two years of taking out your Funeral Plan, your family will be reimbursed the full amount you have paid.

What if I want to take out a Funeral Plan for someone else?

Complete the Funeral Plan Holder’s Representative box on the application form, and we will arrange for all correspondence to be sent to you. Complete confidentiality is assured.

What if I move house?

Please contact us to provide your new address. We will cover the funeral anywhere in Scotland.

Who can buy a plan and what are your payment options?

All Fosters Family Funeral Plans are available to any UK resident over the age of 18.

You can pay the Funeral Plan in full by cash, cheque, debit or credit card. You can also choose to spread the cost over 12 months at no additional cost by direct debit. If you are aged between 40 and 74 you can pay by our 10 year payment plan. If you are between the ages of 50 and 74 you can take out a plan using our fixed monthly payments option by direct debit.

What does guaranteed services mean?

A guaranteed service is one that Fosters provides to you directly, allowing us to guarantee the price you pay now will not change and your family will never be asked to pay more. This allows you to protect against any increase in costs for these services.

What are contribution elements / services?

Our plans may also include financial contributions towards the cost of services. This happens when a service included within the plan is being provided by a third party or is likely subject to availability at the time of the funeral. We describe these as contribution elements.

To help protect your family from being asked to pay more at the time of the funeral the contribution included within the plan is normally slightly higher than the cost of the service today. The financial contributions included within your plan will grow over time. The growth rate is guaranteed to be 0.5% and is applied to your plan annually.

What if death occurs while I’m on holiday?

As an additional benefit, Fosters will pay the transportation charges if death occurs away from your permanent address, but still within Scotland.

If death occurs elsewhere in mainland UK, there will be a one way charge of £1 per mile. If you intend to travel overseas, we recommend that your travel or medical insurance policy includes full cover for repatriation costs to your funeral director’s premises.

What if I live to be 100 years old?

No matter how old you are, no matter how much the cost of our funeral services may rise, your family will never be asked to pay a penny more for the services guaranteed within your plan.

For services where a financial contribution has been included within your plan, this value will grow over time. And to ensure that you do not pay too much, should the cost of the service be less at the time of the funeral then the surplus will be refunded to your family.

Are there cancellation charges?

If you cancel your plan within the first 30 days there are no cancellation charges and we will refund any payments you have made.

After 30 days, if you have chosen to pay the plan in full, or by spreading the cost over 12 months, we will refund any payments you have made less the one off plan cancellation charge of £299. This covers all of Fosters’ costs in setting up the plan.

If you have chosen to pay by 10 year payment plan or fixed monthly payments there is no cancellation charge, however, there is no cash in value so no money will be refunded. Once your plan is cancelled we will have no further obligation to fulfil your plan.

You have the right to cancel your plan and to receive a full refund with no obligation within 30 days of the plan start date.

If you have chosen to pay the plan in full or by 12 monthly payments, and you decide to cancel your plan after 30 days from the plan start date, any monies paid less than the cancellation fee of £299 will be refunded.

If you have chosen the 10 year payment plan or fixed monthly payments option and you decide to cancel then there is no cash in value and no money will be refunded.

Once your plan is cancelled we will have no further obligation to fulfil your plan.
