Everything from yoghurt pots, bakery trays to shampoo containers, milk bottles and drinks cartons can now be recycled in your black recycling box.

They get turned into new products, like fleece

jackets, park benches and new plastic packaging.

Drinks cartons can be made into envelopes and

plaster board liner.

Compared to using raw materials, this saves

precious natural resources and cuts down on the

amount of carbon dioxide released in the

manufacturing process.

Top stuffThe tops or lids from your pots, tubs, trays and bottles can be recycled if you put them on. Just remember to crush the bottles before you put the lids on.

Plastic top tips• Pop all plastic packaging loose in

the same black recycling box as your plastic bottles and put it out on the same day as usual. Make sure there are no plastic films or carrier bags.

• Remember, you can include plastic pots, tubs, trays and bottles from all around the house – not just the kitchen.

• Remember to rinse them out with old dishwater and squash them (if possible) to give you more room before recycling.

Cartons top tips• Rinse them to make

them cleaner.

• Squash your cartons to give you more room.

• Leave the plastic lids on as these will be removed in the recycling process.

• Put your cartons loose in your black recycling box on collection day.

• Put direct into black box - do not put into plastic bags.

Starting from 17 February, 2014, please place in your black recycling box and put out on your normal day.

Plastic FactIn Wales we use around 155,000 tonnes of plastic packaging each year.
