reason why most people fail to achieve a fulfilling life is

    because they are stuck in the limits of their own mind;

they settle for a quality of life that is below what they

desire because they dont think they can do better or they

fear the possibility of failure. But, says Robbins, failing to

challenge yourself is the greatest failure of all. If you

can't, you must. If you must, you can, says Robbins. Let

fear be a counselor and not a jailer Take control of your

consistent emotions and begin to consciously and

deliberately reshape your daily experience of life. In

his seminars, Robbins challenges his audiences to step up

to the plate, today. Because beliefs have the power to

both create and destroy, Robbins emphasizes the

importance of making that single, crucial decision to

change your life for the better, and to do it now. Any

time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing

you must do is to raise your standards, says Robbins.

When people ask me what really changed my life eight

years ago, I tell them that absolutely the most important

thing was changing what I demanded of myself. I wrote

down all the things I would no longer accept in my life, all

the things I would no longer tolerate, and all the things

that I aspired to becoming. For Robbins, the past

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    3/42

doesnt equal the future; any individual has the power to

create their ideal life if they just open themselves up to

the possibilities that it can happen. All personal

breakthroughs begin with a change in beliefs, says

Robbins. So how do we change? The most effective way

is to get your brain to associate massive pain to the old

belief. You must feel deep in your gut that not only has

this belief cost you pain in the past, but it's costing you in

the present and, ultimately, can only bring you pain in the

future. Then you must associate tremendous pleasure to

the idea of adopting a new, empowering

belief. Through this process of immersion, Robbins

believes that anyone can re-wire their minds for success.

Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself,

Here is an opportunity for you to celebrate like never

before, my own power, my own ability to get myself to do

    whatever is necessary.

MEDIOCRITY.LESSON #2: PERSONAL POWER IS THE ABILITY

    TO TAKE ACTION

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    4/42

The path to success is to take massive, determined

action, says Robbins. Your life changes the moment you

make a new, congruent, and committed decisionIt is in

your moments of decision that your destiny is

shaped. Robbins believes that if you want to change

your life, you need to avoid taking a passive approach and

change it. Set your goals and begin to work towards

them, now. Dont wait for an opportunity to present itself,

for if youre not willing to act now, it never will. You

are now at a crossroads, says Robbins. This is your

opportunity to make the most important decision you will

ever make. Forget your past. Who are you now? Who have

you decided you really are now? Don't think about who

you have been. Who are you now? Who have you decided

to become? Make this decision consciously. Make it

carefully. Make it powerfully. According to Robbins,

there is no such thing as failure, just results. Consider the

adage: Success is the result of good judgment, good

judgment is the result of experience, and experience is

often the result of bad judgment, he says. Begin to set

your goals and work towards them even knowing that

failure is a possibility. You might say, what if I screw up?

asks Robbins. Then screw up big! Go for it! Do a big

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    5/42

screwup! Without goals, without committed action,

without mistakes, you will never make a change in your

life. You will continue down the same path of mediocrity

that you always have. And, while you might find security

on that path, you will never achieve a life of fulfillment,

believes Robbins. Live life fully while you're here.

Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your

friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird, says Robbins. Take

the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the

cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don't try to be

perfect; just be an excellent example of being

human. Robbins committed himself long ago to CANI

Constant And Never-ending Improvement, setting new

goals at every step along the way. The most important

thing you can do to achieve your goals is to make sure

that as soon as you set them, you immediately begin to

create momentum, he says. The most important rules

that I ever adopted to help me in achieving my goals were

those I learned from a very successful man who taught me

to first write down the goal, and then to never leave the

site of setting a goal without first taking some form of

positive action toward its attainment. In the end, it

isnt the number of goals that you set for yourself that will

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    6/42

determine your success; it is only your actions that will

decide your destiny. A real decision is measured by the

fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action,

you haven't truly decided, says Robbins. You see, in life,

lots of people know what to do, but few people actually

do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must

    take action.

A.LESSON #3: ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WITH

    PASSION AND PURPOSE

Ask anyone who has attended a Tony Robbins seminar to

describe the experience in one word and you are likely to

hear words such as energetic or enthusiastic. If there is

one thing that Robbins is known for above all else, it is

the passion with which he approaches life. Whether he is

speaking to an audience of 2,000 or a single journalist,

Robbins cant help but be passionate. Live with

passion! he exclaims. There is no greatness without a

passion to be great, whether it's the aspiration of an

athlete or an artist, a scientist, a parent, or a

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    7/42

businessperson. According to Robbins, a life without

passion is a life of un-fulfillment. But, it doesnt stop

at passion; that alone will not get you to where you want

to go. What you also need are goals and a focus on

achieving those goals. People are not lazy, says Robbins.

They simply have impotent goals that is, goals that do

not inspire themIn life you need either inspiration or

desperation. Over the course of Robbins career, he

has seen numerous athletes, business people and world

leaders alike who have failed to achieve their goals, not

because they lacked passion, but because they lacked

focus. One reason so few of us achieve what we truly

want is that we never direct our focus; we never

concentrate our power, he says. Most people dabble

their way through life, never deciding to master anything

in particular. Robbins believes beyond a doubt in the

adage, Where theres a will, theres a way. But, there also

has to be a strong dedication to that way, to achieving

your goals. I believe life is constantly testing us for our

level of commitment, and life's greatest rewards are

reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending

commitment to act until they achieve, says Robbins. This

level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    8/42

constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it

is still the common denominator separating those who live

their dreams from those who live in regret.

    With a

focus towards a clear set of goals and a steadfast

commitment to achieving those goals, Robbins believes

that anything is possible. Without that, we risk losing

much of our short and precious time floundering around

in a life of mediocrity. Most people have no idea of the

giant capacity we can immediately command when we

focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of

our lives, says Robbins. In essence, if we want to direct

our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions.

It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives,

but what we do consistently. Robbins believes that

determination is the wake-up call to the human will,

allowing each individual to achieve the life of his or her

dreams. We can change our lives, he says. We can do,

have, and be exactly what we wish.

VISION.LESSON #5: CREATE A VISION AND STICK TO

    IT

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    9/42

There is a powerful, driving force inside every human

being that, once unleashed, can make any vision, dream or

desire a reality, says Robbins. I challenge you to make

your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks

of those people who live what they teach, who walk their

talk. In order to ever achieve that masterpiece,

Robbins believes that you must have faith that it could

actually happen and imagine your life as it would be.

Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into

the visible, says Robbins. But, beyond that, success

requires a vision; goals are only the stepping-stones on

the way to that vision. Create a vision and never let

the environment, other people's beliefs, or the limits of

what has been done in the past shape your decisions,

says Robbins. Ignore conventional wisdom. Even in the

face of doubt or controversy, have faith in that vision.

Cling to it in the knowledge that you have the right to

achieve nothing less than what you want for your life.

You're in the midst of a war: a battle between the

limits of a crowd seeking the surrender of your dreams,

and the power of your true vision to create and

contribute, says Robbins. It is a fight between those who

will tell you what you cannot do, and that part of you that

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    10/42

knows and has always known that we are more than

our environment; and that a dream, backed by an

unrelenting will to attain it, is truly a reality with an

imminent arrival. Before success must come a

visualization of it, believes Robbins. He points to Albert

Einstein, who changed history not because he was

smarter, but because he had a vision and followed trough

with it. He knew what he wanted and that vision never

waned. That power is in all of us, and when harnessed,

can lead you on a path toward ultimate achievement.

Whether its Einstein or another great achiever, Robbins

believes lessons can be drawn from their experiences. If

you want to be successful, find someone who has

achieved the results you want and copy what they do and

you'll achieve the same results, he says.

LESSON #4: QUALITY QUESTIONS CREATE A

    QUALITY LIFE

Questions provide the key to unlocking our unlimitedpotential, says Robbins. Quality questions create a

quality life. Successful people ask better questions, and as

a result, they get better answers. It is in being honest

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    11/42

with yourself and having an open internal dialogue that

you will place yourself on the path to success. You and I

have that same power at our disposal every moment of

the day, says Robbins. At the moment, the questions

that we ask ourselves can shape our perception of who we

are, what we're capable of, and what we're willing to do to

achieve our dreams. How do you really want to live?

What gets you most excited? When do you feel stuck?

What kind of person will you have to become in order to

achieve all that you want? These are some of the

questions Robbins suggests you ask yourself and answer

honestly. The genuine quality of life comes from

consistent, quality questions, says Robbins. If you ask

yourself a great question, your mind will automatically

focus on finding better answers and solutions. Conversely,

If you ask a terrible question, you'll get a terrible answer,

he says. Your mental computer is ever ready to serve you,

and whatever question you give it, it will surely come up

with an answer. Throughout his career, Robbins has

been driven by a single question what makes the

difference in the quality of peoples lives? He has since

come to realize that it is what we ask of ourselves and

how well we look inside to find the answers that plays a

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    12/42

key role. Not only does this help us understand our own

internal motivations, but it also helps provide focus to our

thoughts. Every night before going to sleep, Robbins

suggests asking yourself the following three questions:

What have I learned today? What have I enjoyed today?

What have I improved or contributed today? Simple

questions, yet with powerful effects. Most people never

feel secure because they are always worried that they will

lose their job, lose the money they already have, lose their

spouse, lose their health, and so on, says Robbins. The

only true security in life comes from knowing that every

single day you are improving yourself in some way, that

you are increasing the caliber of who you are and that

you are valuable to your company, your friends, and your

family. In asking yourself the above three questions, you

can work on improving yourself each and every day.

Every individual has the right to live a life of

fulfillment and questions are the key to opening that door.

The power was given to you at the moment you were

born, says Robbins. Its source is unlimited. And when

you seize it, youll have everything you need to create a

life filled with more passion, excitement, confidence, and

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    13/42

joy than youve ever dreamed. Isn't it time to unleash the

power within and claim your extraordinary potential?

BOOKS.AWAKENING THE GIANT: TONY ROBBINS IS

    BORN

Success is doing what you want to do, when you want,

where you want, with whom you want, as much as you

want, says Tony Robbins. For the past 15 years, Robbins

has been doing exactly that. As one of the most

celebrated motivational speakers and life coaches in the

world, Robbins has come from humble beginnings to rise

to the top of his game. He not only talks about how to

achieve success; with best-selling books and seminars

behind him, as well as being Chairman of five private

companies that together generate over half of $1 billion,

Robbins has himself become a successful entrepreneur

and a model of what it takes in order to achieve yourdreams. Anthony J. Mahavorick was born on February

    29, 1960 in Glendora, California, a low-income suburb of

Los Angeles. When he was just seven years old, his

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    14/42

parents divorced. His mother would later remarry twice,

and he would take on the surname of his second

stepfather, Jim Robbins. An ambitious child, Robbins

dreamed of one day leaving his modest upbringings

behind to become a sports reporter. He attended

Glendora High School and in 1977, was elected president

of his student body. The passion, for which Robbins has

since become legendary, was not so beneficial to him as a

child; at the age of 17, Robbins was kicked out of his

house for being too intense. It wasnt long before

Robbins found his niche. After discovering the

motivational speaker Jim Rohn, Robbins became inspired.

He began to read personal growth books by the hundreds

over seven hundred in just a few years. He also

discovered that he had a personal knack for sales, where

his early career excelled. With his voracious appetite for

self-help books and his impressive sales technique,

Robbins soon found himself in the seminar business.

Initially, Robbins found himself selling tickets for

another popular motivational speaker. He had an

impressive ability to sell tickets to almost anyone, even

breaking all the sales records in his first month. By any

measure, Robbins was a success and was now in an

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    15/42

income bracket beyond his dreams. But, Robbins wanted

more for himself. I remember the moment my life

changed, the moment I finally said, 'I've had it! I know I'm

much more than I'm demonstrating mentally, emotionally,

and physically in my life, recalls Robbins. I made a

decision in that moment which was to alter my life

forever. I decided to change virtually every aspect of my

life. I decided I would never again settle for less than I can

    be.

Robbins began compiling all the knowledge he

had amassed over the years and developed a unique

motivational seminar that he himself began delivering to

public audiences. They were fast sellouts. Then, in 1983,

    Robbins discovered Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a

radical and relatively new therapeutic technique that

Robbins would go on to study and promote in his

seminars. After only briefly studying the basic principles of

NLP, Robbins hit the road with his new seminar; it turned

out to be the road that would establish his career and

turn him into the success he is today.

    BECOMES A SUCCESS

    16/42

Neuro-Linguistic Programming promised instant results; by

directly altering unconscious programs, Robbins and

other proponents of NLP believed that it was one of the

most promising new therapeutic techniques. Robbins

created a new seminar based on NLP and hit the road

with it. He began appearing on television and radio

stations throughout first, Canada, and then the U.S. In

1989, he launched a series of infomercials to promote his

product, which proved to be a very successful strategy.

Since their initial introduction, Robbins infomercials have

aired on average every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day,

somewhere in North America. Robbinss confidence in

his new technology of change was growing. He began to

publicly challenge psychiatrists by asking for a chance to

work through their toughest cases in front of a live

audience. In one of his early seminars, Robbins brought

on stage a woman who had been being treated for her

phobia of snakes for over seven years; Robbins cured her

in fifteen minutes. Following that experience, Robbins

exclaims, I became a wild man! I stormed across the

country demonstrating to people how quickly change

could occur. Robbins also began offering personal

therapy sessions, initially at a price of $500 per hour.

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    17/42

Soon, he was charging $5,000 per hour and was

guaranteeing transformation in one session. If you see

your therapist more than twice, your therapist has no

integrity, Robbins would say. Interest in Robbins seminars

was growing across the country, the most famous of

which was his four-day Unleash the Power Within seminar.

It was here where Robbins demonstrated his now-famous

firewalk, whereby people would gain mental discipline and

confidence by walking over burning coals, and then apply

that principle to other aspects of their lives. Over the

next decade, Robbins reputation as a successful

entrepreneur and life coach would continue to soar. He

has authored five internationally best-selling books, which

have since been published in 14 languages throughout

the world. His Personal Power development system has

sold over 35 million audiotapes and he has given seminars

to over three million people in more than 80 countries.

Robbins also founded Mastery University, bringing

together world leaders to train future world leaders.

Today, Robbins is one of the most sought after

international speakers and advisors. From Fortune 500

CEOs to elite athletes to international leaders, including

Nelson Mandela and Mother Theresa, Robbins has met

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    18/42

with, consulted or advised some of the most influential

people in the world. Robbins is also a dedicated

philanthropist and humanitarian, having launched the non-

profit Anthony Robbins Foundation to help the homeless

and disadvantaged and creating the Presidential Summit

for Americas Promise. The Anthony Robbins Companies

now include Namale Resort & Spa, Twinlab Corporation,

Rebus Publishing, and Discovery Toys. Robbins serves as

Chairman to each, with all of them being geared towards

improving peoples quality of life. When American

Express asked its entrepreneurial clients who would be

their number one choice of anyone in the world to

personally coach them in their business endeavours if

price were not an issue, Robbins was selected by an

overwhelming margin. He represents not only financial

success but also the passion and energy that

entrepreneurs need to take their company to the top.

    DECISION.

    GIANT STEPS: HOW ROBBINS ACHIEVED

    SUCCESS

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    19/42

A successful entrepreneur, a strategic advisor to world

leaders, an award-winning speaker and an internationally

best-selling author, Tony Robbins has become one of the

worlds most recognized authorities in the life coaching

industry. Through his seminars and audiotapes, Robbins is

helping millions of people around the world live a more

fulfilled life. How did he create the life he wanted for

himself? He Believed He Could: If you don't set a

baseline standard for what you'll accept in life, you'll find

it's easy to slip into behaviors and attitudes or a quality of

life that's far below what you want, says Robbins. Using

the power of decision gives you the capacity to get past

any excuse to change any and every part of your life in an

instant. Robbins refused to give in to self-doubt and

opened himself up to the possibilities of greatness.

He Took Action: Its not knowing what to do, it's

doing what you know, says Robbins. For many years,

Robbins would set goals for himself and never follow

through, that is until he made the conscious decision to

take action. He pushed the fear of failure to one side,

made a willful decision to act, and committed himself to

achieving his goals, right then and there. He Stayed

Committed: Where focus goes, energy flows, says

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    20/42

Robbins. Theres no abiding success without

commitment. Because of the passion with which Robbins

approaches life, he has little difficulty in focusing on his

goals and committing himself to achieving them. Once he

sets his mind to achieving something, he stays on that

course until it has been accomplished. He Was Honest

With Himself: Remember, ask and you shall receive, says

Robbins. It was in asking himself tough questions early in

his career about what he wanted to achieve, what was

important to him, and what he was willing to do to get

there that Robbins was able to become the success he is

today. Once he knew where he wanted to go, it was just a

matter of figuring out how to get there. He Followed

His Vision: Throughout Robbins career, critics who

question his miracle cures brand of therapy have plagued

him. But, Robbins stayed true to his core values and

pursued his vision even in the face of his detractors.

Surmountingdifficulty is the crucible that forms

character, he says. Robbins embraced his vision and

doggedly chased it down. It was this larger vision that

kept Robbins on track even through the ups and downs of

his career. The truth of the matter is that there's

nothing you can't accomplish if: (1) You clearly decide

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    21/42

what it is that you're absolutely committed to achieving,

    (2) You're willing to take massive action, (3) You notice

what's working or not, and (4) You continue to change

your approach until you achieve what you want, using

whatever life gives you along the way, says Robbins.

What simple action could you take today to produce a

new momentum toward success in your life?

If you can't, you must. If you must, you can.

can move mountains, but it must be constant and

common denominator separating those who live their

    If you do what

you've always done, you'll get what you've always

gotten. For changes to be of any true value, they've

got to be lasting and consistent. Any time you sincerely

want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to

raise your standards. When people ask me what really

changed my life eight years ago, I tell them that

absolutely the most important thin was changing what I

demanded of myself. I wrote down all the things I would

Don't try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of

being human. Most people fail in life because they

    major in minor things.

    More than anything else, I

believe it's our decisions, not the conditions of our lives,

that determine our destiny. It's not what's happening

to you now or what has happened in your past that

determines who you become. Rather, it's your decisions

about what to focus on, what things mean to you, and

what you're going to do about them that will determine

    your ultimate destiny.

    Live with passion! We can

change our lives. We can do, have, and be exactly what

    we wish.

The path to success is to take massive,

determined action. One reason so few of us achieve

what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we

never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their

way through life, never deciding to master anything in

particular. To effectively communicate, we must realize

that we are all different in the way we perceive the world

and use this understanding as a guide to our

    communication with others.

The truth of the matter is

that there's nothing you can't accomplish if: (1) You clearly

decide what it is that you're absolutely committed to

achieving, (2) You're willing to take massive action, (3) You

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    24/42

notice what's working or not, and (4) You continue to

change your approach until you achieve what you want,

using whatever life gives you along the way.

    The secret

of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure

instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do

that, you're in control of your life. If you don't, life controls

    you.

Goals are a means to an end, not the ultimate

purpose of our lives. They are simply a tool to concentrate

our focus and move us in a direction. The only reason we

really pursue goals is to cause ourselves to expand and

grow. Achieving goals by themselves will never make us

happy in the long term; it's who you become, as you

overcome the obstacles necessary to achieve your goals,

that can give you the deepest and most long-lasting sense

of fulfillment. It is not what we get. But who we

become, what we contribute... that gives meaning to our

lives. Personal power is the ability to take

action. Put yourself in a state of mind where you say

to yourself, "Here is an opportunity for you to celebrate

like never before, my own power, my own ability to get

myself to do whatever is necessary." There is no such

thing as failure. There are only results. If you want to

be successful, find someone who has achieved the results

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    25/42

you want and copy what they do and you'll achieve the

same results. Success comes from taking the

initiative and following up... persisting... eloquently

expressing the depth of your love. What simple action

could you take today to produce a new momentum

toward success in your life? You see, in life, lots of

people know what to do, but few people actually do what

they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take

    action.

Let fear be a counselor and not a

jailer. When you temporarily run aground, remember

that there are no failures in life. There are only results.

Consider the adage: Success is the result of good

judgment, good judgment is the result of experience, and

experience is often the result of bad judgment! The

only people without problems are those in

cemeteries. A real decision is measured by the fact

that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you

haven't truly decided. All personal breakthroughs

being with a change in beliefs. So how do we change?

The most effective way is to get your brain to associate

massive pain to the old belief. You must feel deep in your

gut that not only has this belief cost you pain in the past,

but it's costing you in the present and, ultimately, can only

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    26/42

bring you pain in the future. Then you must associate

tremendous pleasure to the idea of adopting a new,

    empowering belief.

Nothing has any power over me

other than that which I give it through my conscious

thoughts. Everything happens for a reason and a

purpose, and it serves you. Your life changes the

moment you make a new, congruent, and committed

    decision. There is always a way-if you're

    committed.

The higher your energy level, the more

efficient your body. The more efficient your body, the

better you feel and the more you will use your talent to

    produce outstanding results.

    I challenge you to make

your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks

of those people who live what they teach, who walk their

talk. There's no abiding success without

commitment. People are not lazy. They simply have

impotent goals / that is, goals that do not inspire

    them.

Create a vision and never let the environment,

other people's beliefs, or the limits of what has been done

in the past shape your decisions. Ignore conventional

    wisdom.

Success is doing what you want to do, when

you want, where you want, with whom you want, as much

    as you want.

Most people have no idea of the giant

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    27/42

capacity we can immediately command when we focus all

of our resources on mastering a single area of our

    lives.

I also remember the moment my life changed,

the moment I finally said, ''I've had it! I know I'm much

more than I'm demonstrating mentally, emotionally, and

physically in my life'.' I made a decision in that moment

which was to alter my life forever. I decided to change

virtually every aspect of my life. I decided I would never

again settle for less than I can be.

    In essence, if we

want to direct our lives, we must take control of our

consistent actions. It's not what we do once in a while that

shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.

    Setting

goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the

visible. When people are like each other they tend to

like each other. You always succeed in producing a

result. I discovered a long time ago that if I helped

people get what they wanted, I would always get what I

wanted and I would never have to worry. The past

doesn't equal the future. The meeting of preparation

with opportunity generates the offspring we call

    luck.

Only those who have learned the power of

sincere and selfless contribution experience life's deepest

    joy: true fulfillment.

We will act consistently with our

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    28/42

view of who we truly are, whether that view is accurate or

not. The quality of your life is the quality of your

    relationships.

My definition of success is to live your

life in a way that causes you to feel a ton of pleasure and

very little pain - and because of your lifestyle, have the

people around you feel a lot more pleasure than they do

    pain.

It's your unlimited power to care and to love that

can make the biggest difference in the quality of your

    life.

You must know that in any moment a decision

you make can change the course of your life forever: the

very next person stand behind in line or sit next to on an

airplane, the very next phone call you make or receive, the

very next movie you see or book you read or page you

turn could be the one single thing that causes the

floodgates to open, and all of the things that you've been

waiting for to fall into place.

    What we can or cannot

do, what we consider possible or impossible, is rarely a

function of our true capability. It is more likely a function

of our beliefs about who we are. In life you need

    either inspiration or desperation.

    Whatever happens,

    take responsibility. All personal breakthroughs

begin with a change in beliefs. Take control of your

consistent emotions and begin to consciously and

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    29/42

deliberately reshape your daily experience of life.

    The

truth is that we can learn to condition our minds, bodies,

and emotions to link pain or pleasure to whatever we

choose. By changing what we link pain and pleasure to,

we will instantly change our behaviors. I've come to

believe that all my past failure and frustration were

actually laying the foundation for the understandings that

have created the new level of living I now enjoy. If you

are truly flexible and go until... there is really very little

you can't accomplish in your lifetime.

    We are the only

beings on the planet who lead such rich internal lives that

it's not the events that matter most to us, but rather, it's

how we interpret those events that will determine how we

think about ourselves and how we will act in the

    future.

The most important thing you can do to

achieve your goals is to make sure that as soon as you set

them, you immediately begin to create momentum. The

most important rules that I ever adopted to help me in

achieving my goals were those I learned from a very

successful man who taught me to first write down the

goal, and then to never leave the site of setting a goal

without first taking some form of positive action toward

    its attainment.

The way we communicate with others

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    30/42

and with ourselves ultimately determines the quality of

our lives. Some of the biggest challenges in

relationships come from the fact that most people enter a

relationship in order to get something: they're trying to

find someone who's going to make them feel good. In

reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see

your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a

place that you go to take. It is in your moments of

decision that your destiny is shaped.

    Things do not

have meaning. We assign meaning to everything. I've

continued to recognize the power individuals have to

change virtually anything and everything in their lives in

an instant. I've learned that the resources we need to turn

our dreams into reality are within us, merely waiting for

the day when we decide to wake up and claim our

    birthright.

Many people make the mistake of thinking

that all the challenges in their lives would dissipate if they

just had enough money. Nothing could be further from

the truth. Earning more money, in and of itself, rarely frees

people. It's equally ridiculous to tell yourself that greater

financial freedom and mastery of your finances would not

offer your greater opportunities to expand, share, and

create value for yourself and others.

    Life is a gift, and

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    31/42

it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to

give something back by becoming more. When you

are grateful fear disappears and abundance

appears. There is no greatness without a passion to be

great, whether it's the aspiration of an athlete or an artist,

    a scientist, a parent, or a

businessperson. Determination is the wake-up call to

the human will. If we don't see a failure as a

challenge to modify our approach, but rather as a

problem with ourselves, as a personality defect, we will

immediately feel overwhelmed. Why do people persist

in a dissatisfying relationship, unwilling either to work

toward solutions or end it and move on? It's because they

know changing will lead to the unknown, and most people

believe that the unknown will be much more painful than

    what they're already experiencing.

    You're in the midst

of a war: a battle between the limits of a crowd seeking

the surrender of your dreams, and the power of your true

vision to create and contribute. It is a fight between those

who will tell you what you cannot do, and that part of you

that knows / and has always known / that we are more

than our environment; and that a dream, backed by an

unrelenting will to attain it, is truly a reality with an

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    32/42

imminent arrival. Quality questions create a quality

life. Successful people ask better questions, and as a

    result, they get better answers.

    Once you have

mastered time, you will understand how true it is that

most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a

year - and underestimate what they can achieve in a

    decade.

The quality of your life is dependent upon the

quality of the life of your cells. If the bloodstream is filled

with waste products, the resulting environment does not

promote a strong, vibrant, healthy cell life-nor a

biochemistry capable of creating a balanced emotional life

    for an individual.

    Most people never feel secure

because they are always worried that they will lose their

job, lose the money they already have, lose their spouse,

lose their health, and so on. The only true security in life

comes from knowing that every single day you are

improving yourself in some way, that you are increasing

the caliber of who you are and that you are valuable to

your company, your friends, and your

    family.

Questions provide the key to unlocking our

unlimited potential. Beliefs have the power to create

and the power to destroy. Human beings have the

awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    33/42

create a meaning that disempowers them or one that can

literally save their lives. Surmounting difficulty is the

    crucible that forms character.

    Commit to CANI! -

Constant And Never-ending Improvement. Using the

power of decision gives you the capacity to get past any

excuse to change any and every part of your life in an

    instant.

Remember, a real decision is measured by the

fact that you've taken new action. If there's no action, you

    haven't truly decided.

    The only thing that's keeping

you from getting what you want is the story you keep

telling yourself. Where focus goes energy

    flows.

To have an extraordinary quality of life you

need two skills: the science of achievement (the ability to

take anything you envision and make it real) and the art

of fulfillment (this allows you to enjoy every moment of

it. Success without fulfillment is failure. People's

lives are a direct reflection of the expectations of their

    peer group.

The Key to Change Your Life is to "Jump" Into YourSubconscious...

If you do what youve always done, youll get what youve always gotten. Tony Robbins

This post is my attempt to surface and share some of my favorite lessons

    from Tony Robbins.

Tony Robbins is a living example of smart and gets results. He walks histalk. Hes a powerful combination of action, passion, and commitment tocontinuous improvement. When it comes to unleashing your best, TonyRobbins sets the bar. I actually think one of his super skills is bringingNLP(Neuro-Linguistic Programming)to the masses and making it practical.

My Dad first introduced me to Tony Robbins by having me listen toPersonal Power. As I listened, I felt like I was given the Holy Grail of

    Greatness.

I immediately used the information and techniques to shootfrom #192 out of 196 students to #4, in one of my toughest classes at thetime. It was that single experience that both convinced me he was the realdeal, and that skills can make all the difference in life. Without further ado, here are my top 25 lessons from Tony Robbins.

While its always a challenge to distill somebodys greatness into a set oflessons, its especially challenging with Tony Robbins given his depth andbreadth in the field of human excellence. Hes paved so many paths, turned over so many stones, and shared such a wealth of know-how, that Ifound it tough to pick the right lessons to share. Here we go:

    1. Three levels of mastery.

Robbins says we move through three levels of mastery: intellectual, emotional, and physical. We might understand something intellectually, but not have any emotional reaction to it or be able to actually do it. Whenwe do know something at the emotional level, we have an emotionalreaction. This is a simple, but powerful model for thinking about stages ofmastery, and it actually parallelsBlooms Taxonomy.

    2. Four classes of experience.

Robbins outlines four types of experience as a frame for thinking aboutwhat types of experience to do more of, and what to do less of: Good foryou, good for other people; good for you, bad for other people, bad for you, good for other people, and bad for you, bad for other people.

    3. Six human needs.

We go through cycles of needs and some seem at odds. Robbins says our6 human needs are: certainty, uncertainty, significance, connection, growth, contribution. We have a need for certainty until we are certain, andthen we need surprise and variety. We have a need to stand out and besignificant and make our mark on the world, but we also have a need toblend in and be part of the crowd. We have a need to experience growthand to make our contribution and give back to others.

    4. Act on it.

Knowledge is power, and action is results. Start with something simpleand build momentum. Decide and act. Take massive action. Have a biasfor action. Take consistent action. Throw massive action at yourproblems. Robbins teaches us that smarts not enough. If were smart, butdont take action, we can end up smart and broke, smart and fat, or smart

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom's_Taxonomyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom's_Taxonomyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom's_Taxonomyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom's_Taxonomy

    36/42

and alone. We need to take consistent actions and improve ourresults.Along those lines, its not enough to know what to do, you need todo what you know.

    5. Ask better questions.

Learn how to ask better questions to get more effective results. Thinking isasking and answering questions. If you want better answers, ask betterquestions. Take control of your question and answering process by askingempowering questions. Dont ask why question (e.g. why cant I dothis?), ask how questions (e.g. how can I do this?) Ask happy questionsor inspiring questions. Use precision and ask precisely instead ofgeneralizing or abstracting.

    6. Be a student of possibilities.

Robbins teaches us to be open to other possibilities and continuouslearning. Dont let your attitudes and beliefs limit you. Change yourinternal representation your belief about whats possible. Find ways thatwork for you to uncover and change your limiting beliefs.

    7. Be resourceful.

To be resourceful, ask resourceful questions. (e.g. How might you solvethis? Who can help? How can you leverage what youve got? ) Byasking your brain the right questions, youll engage your RAS (reticularactivating system) to help you solve your problems.

    8. Build a library of profound knowledge.

Find reference examples of greatness. Create a personal knowledge baseof success patterns and distinctions. Study and collect stories of

successful people that you can learn from and inspire you.

    9. Change the frame to change your game.

How you look at things determines what you think, feel, and do.A frame ishow you see things. Reframe things to change your perspective. Practicethe power of perspective and add new lenses you can use to see things a

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    37/42

    new way.

    10. Focus on continuous improvement.

Achieve physical, mental, financial, and spiritual wealth. Robbins suggestsadopting a principle he calls CANI. It stands for Constant And NeverEnding Improvement.According to Robbins, Youre growing or dying youre either climbing or sliding.

    11. Know your rules.

We all carry around a bunch of rules about things. When you have conflict, its usually because of a conflict in rules. For example, somebody has

rules about how they know you love them, and your behavior doesntmatch (e.g. You tell them you love them, but they need to see it withrandom acts of kindness.) You can keep getting tripped up by these rulesuntil you know what they are. You can dump your rules by askingquestions, In order to be successful, I need to and whatever followsare your rules. You can ask other people. You can ask your kids, In orderto be a successful Mom or Dad, what do I need to do? Robbins makesthe point that what you dont know can hurt you, and by dumping it out, youknow whether the rules are helping you or getting in the way, and you canbetter meet expectations for yourself or others. For example, you mightfind that your rules for success are unreasonable and you would nevermeet them, so no matter how hard you try, you will always shoot yourselfdown. Get a grip on your rules and make them work for you.

    12. Learn effective techniques for learning faster

    with improved results.

Skill takes repetition and practice. Robbins says, Repetition is the motherof skill. Use repetition to improve your skills. If you use repetition with

improvement, you create life mastery. People hate repetition, but it createspower. Be willing to do the boring things everyday to improveyourself. Dont just do the same things over and over improve theactions.

    13. Learn how to handle and solve problems

  • 8/10/2019 Every Night Before Going to Sleep

    38/42

    more effectively.

We become more of who we are by the problems we solve. Robbins says,The only people without problems are those in cemeteries. You improve

your ability to solve problems by framing and reframing problems and byimproving your communication to yourself and others.Adopt a healthyattitude towards your problems. Reframe problems as challenges.Adoptthe belief that resistance makes you stronger and that we expand andgrow ourselves the most by solving problems.

    14. Learn how to set more effective goals.

Use goals to help shape your destiny and unleash your best.Ask yourself,

who would you like to become? what do you want to have, do, orcreate? and what do you want to earn and contribute. Write your goalsdown to improve your chance of success and improve your clarity. Makesure your ladder isnt up against the wrong wall (dont climb to the top, onlyto find its not what you want.) To make your goals sticky, have acompelling reason for them. If you cant write at least a paragraph on whyyou need to complete the goal, then its not compelling enough. Either findthe right goal or find the right reason. Have a timeframe on your goals andstart taking simple actions towards your goals, a day at a time. Robbinssuggests, stay committed to your goals, but flexible in your approach.

    15. Learn how to master your body.

Robbins encourages several success patterns here including, breathingeffectively, eating water-rich foods, eating less, and combining foodseffectively.According to Robbins, if you like to eat a lot, the secret ofeating a lot, is eating a little, because then youll be around long enough toeat a lot.Aside from learning from experts, Robbins also suggestsexploringNatural Hygiene.

    16. Learn how to master your communicationwith yourself and others.

Robbins teaches us that the quality of your life is the quality of yourcommunication, with ourselves and others. Learn more effective self-talk. You can be your best friend or your own worst enemy. Go from critic

to coach. Robbins answers the question, Why do we communicate? Wecommunicate to feel good or expand the feeling, get rid of a negativefeeling, or to change a result. Focus on rapport beforeinfluence. Communication often breaks down because youre stressed oryou have different perceptions of reality or different meanings. Robbins
