magnificentsplendorofthesnowypeaks.TheEverestBaseCamptrekexposesyoutoanexceptionalviewoftheoutstandingmountainrange,whilsttakingintheremarkablealpineenvironmentandsettlements.Thereisnothingmorespectacularthanseeingthehighestpeakintheworldinitsentiresplendor.Mt.Everest,(8,848mabovesealevel)maybethefundamentalattraction,howeveritisalsosupportedbythreeofthehighestpeaksoftheworldincludingLhotse(8,516m),Makalu(8,481m)andChoOyu(8,201m).ThismajesticmountainrangeisvisibleonourtrektoEverestBaseCamp(5,364m).TheEverestBaseCampTrekprovidesauniqueopportunitytowitnessoutstandingscenery,exploretrailsandexperiencetheextraordinarycharacterandnaturalwondersoftheHimalayas.Youwilltrekthroughmajesticforests,grovesofrhododendrons,epicwaterfallsandancientSherpavillages.Thisisateahousetrek,meaningwewillbestayinginlocalteahouseseachnightandnotcampingalongtheway!YouwillfeelanincrediblesenseofaccomplishmentasyoufollowthepathofSirEdmundHillaryandTenzingNorgaywhowerethefirsttosuccessfullyclimbMt.Everestin1953.EverestBaseCamptrekstartsfromthelovelymountainvillageofLukla(2,840m)justa30minutescenicflightfromKathmandu.Headingnorth,thistrekthenproceedsthroughcharacteristicSherpavillagesbeforereachingtheprimedestinationoftheEverestBaseCampandKalaPatthar.

PreparationWhileyoupreparetoclimb,itwillbehelpfultodedicatesometimetowardsfitness.Youdonotneedtobeinexcellentphysicalshapeforyourclimb,however,youshouldfocusonincreasingyourcardioandrememberthatyourdayswillconsistoflonghikesathighaltitudes.Youwillbehikingatleast5-8hoursadaytoEBC.ThebestfitnesspreparationishikingoninclinedanddeclinedterrainwithabackpackandthehikingbootsyouplantowearupEBC.Thiswillhelptoprepareyourmusclesandbodyforlongdurationsofhikingyouwillexperiencewhileonthetrek.Itwillbebeneficialforyoutogoonhikesinyourareaand/orsimplywalkforlongperiodsoftimeonterrainthatincludesbothuphillanddownhill.Wealsosuggestdoingsquatsandclimbingstairs,assomeareasonEBCrequireyoutoascendrockyterrain.Duringtheclimb,youwillcarryabackpackwithdailynecessities,suchaslayers,arainjacket,andatleast2litersofwater,sowhilepreparing,youshouldpracticedoingthesame.Ifyourhikingbootsarenotbrokenin,thenwehighlysuggestwearingyourbootswhileyouhike,walk,orclimbstairs.YoucanalsobreakyourbootsinwhilevolunteeringattheconstructionsiteduringyourNepalVolunteerExcursion,priortoEBC.Manyvolunteerschoosethisrouteinsteadofbringingseparateworkandhikingboots.MentalenduranceisthekeytotrekkingEBCandyouwillneedstaminaanddeterminationforthejourney.Thebestwaytobuildmentalstrengthistospendlongperiodshiking,walking,orclimbingstairscoupledwithremainingmentallypositivewhileyouengageintheseexercises.Bringalongyourideasofgames,riddles,songs,etc.tokeepyouentertainedduringthehike.And,takethisincredibleopportunitytogettoknowyourguidesandporters,aswellasdeepenyourbondswithfellowvolunteers!

TheTeaHousesuptoTengboche(3850m)willhavechargingstationsforgadgets,somefreeandotherscostingacertainchargeperhour.Althoughthereischargingaccessinallteahousesalongthetrek,theteahousesthatareaboveTengboche,relyonlyonSolarpower.Therefore,youmightbechargedbetween$5-10USDperhourperdeviceforcharging.DuringyourclimbtoKalapatthar(5545m),keepinmindthatyou’llwanttohaveachargedcamerabatteryonthesummittotakephotos.Considerbringingyourownportablecharger.

YouwillcarryadaypackeverydaywhiletrekkingtoEBCcontainingonlywhatyouneedfortheday.Yourporterswillcarryyourotherbagwithclothingyoudon’tneedondailytreks.Yourdaypackshouldeitherbewaterprooforyoushouldhaveawaterproofcoverforyourdaypack.Werecommenda20-30literbackpacklargeenoughtocarryatleast3litersofwater,yourcamera,raincoat,snacks,warmlayers,toiletpaper,hat,andsunscreen.Itisimportantnottooverpackyourdaypackwithitemsyouwillnotneedeachdayasyoucanpacktheseitemsinyourotherbag.Rememberthatyourporterswillcarryyourdufflebag,soitisimportanttoonlybringwhatyoureallyneedforthetrek.YoucansafelyleaveclothinganditemsyouwillnotneedinyourhotelinKathmandu.SinceyouwillonlybringaportionofyourbelongingsupEBC,it’ssmarttobringasmallduffelbagorcollapsiblebaginyourluggagetoNepal.LeaveyourlargerluggageatthehotelandonlybringyoursmalldufflebagorcollapsiblebagwithonlytrekkinggearandclothingtotrekEBC.*NorollingsuitcaseswillbepermittedonEBC.

Clothing

Itisrecommendedthatyoutakeseveralthinlayersofclothingthatallowventilationasopposedtoafewthickones.Itiseasiertoaddorshedlayersasneededthroughoutthedaybasedonyourbodytemperature.Clothesmadefromsyntheticmaterialsarerecommended,aswoolclothingtakeslongertodry.

PortersandTipsOnaverage,ittakesabout1portertocarrytwoperson’sduffelbag.So,ifyouhaveagroupof10trekkingtoEBC,thenyouwillhave5porters.Yourportersareincrediblysupportiveduringthetrek.Thereisalotoftimetotalkwithyourporters,learnmoreabouttheirexperienceandculture,andgettoknowthem!Tipsareasignificantportionofyourguideandporter’ssalaries.ThetipsforyourguidesandportersarenotincludedinthecosttotrekEBC.Youmustbringaminimumof$150USDtogivetoyourleadguide,whowilldispersetipstotheotherguidesandporters.This$150tipisaminimum,andwesuggestbringingmoreifpossible,asyouwilltrulywanttorewardtheporterswhoworksohardforyou!YouwillbeabletostopatanATMinNamcheBazzaronthewayuptoEBC.

Wehighlysuggestwearingyourhikingbootsasmuchaspossiblepriortodeparture.Also,youcanbreakyourbootsinwhilevolunteeringattheconstructionsite,duringyourNepalExcursion.Manyvolunteerschoosethisrouteinsteadofbringingseparateworkandhikingboots.

MealsSincethisisateahousetrek,3mealsadaywillbeservedinthelodges.Usuallyourlunchonthewaywillbearrangedbytheguideforasmallergroupoftrekkersorarrangedbytheassistingguideforabiggergroup.Abiggergrouprequiresmuchmoretimeforthefoodtobepreparedandthereforewewillusuallydoabuffetlunchinsuchtimes.However,dinnerandbreakfastcanbeorderedaccordingtoyourchoice.Ifyouhavespecificdietaryneeds,theycanandwillaccommodateanydietaryrestrictionsduringthetrek.YourguideswillhaveaccesstotheinformationprovidedtoGIVEviayourRegistrationForm,butit’salwaysagoodideatotellyourleadguideaboutanydietaryneedsatthemeetingatouraccommodationspriortoyourEBCtrek.

Day11:FlyfromLuklatoKathmanduFinally,adaywithnotrekkingaswewilltakeascenicmorningflightbacktoKathmandu.Uponarrivalandtransfertoyourhotel,youthenhavetherestofthedaytodowhateveryoulike.ThismaybesimplyrelaxingorexploringKathmandu.Youmayevenwishtodosomelastminuteshoppingforyourself,friendsandfamily.OvernightinKathmandu.Mealincluded(D)Day12:FinaldeparturetransfertotheInternationalAirport3hourspriortoyourflighttime,wewilltransferyoutotheairporttoflytoyouronwarddestination.Mealincluded(B)
