This year’s 7th edition of Spider, the Festival of Radical Bodies, focuses on practices that rely on our immeasurable capacities, while trying to transcend the forced means of constructing measurable human inter-relations. Spider enables unprecedented and unregulated insight into the processes and strategies of cutting-edge performance-making that question the prevailing psycho-physical and socio-economic order, including its misguided foundations. Don’t miss this opportunity and join the vital and vibrant crossroads between dance and speech, radical criticism and the embodiment of freedom! www.spiderontheedge.org

Sonica is a festival of contemporary electronic music and transitory art. In a way, it is conceived as a showcase of the annual programme produced by MoTA - Museum of Transitory Art. Its experimental nature questions exhibition and staging formats, crossing borders between art and theory, object and performance.Sonica is an attempt to transform a classical exhibition space into a field of events, performances, workshops, and lectures. It is a temporary laboratory established on the crossing of visual art, media and sound art and research, consisting of production and research residencies, exhibitions, performances, and public interventions, with a special focus on intersections of music, sound and other art forms.www.sonica.si

A new permanent exhibition about the history of Ljubljana. How well do you know the rich history of Slovenian capital? Pile-dwellers, Emona, Middle and New Ages, the 20th and 21st centuries… what is the history of Ljubljana? A chronological presentation of Ljubljana’s millennia of heritage with precious authentic artefacts, like the world’s oldest wooden wheel with an axle, is now on display on Ljubljana. History. City. exhibition. In our globalised world, heritage just might be what differentiates cities the most, and it also shaped our capital’s identity. Therefore, the exhibition proudly highlights local peculiarities, stories of everyday life in the past, and the individuals who left the strongest impressions on our history. Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)Permanent exhibition at the National GalleryZoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with his series of paintings We Are Not the Last, in which he relived the scenes he experienced in the Dachau concentration camp. Ljubljana’s National Gallery displays the world’s only permanent survey exhibition of Mušič’s work, which

Stanko Kristl, Architect: Humanity and Space19 Dec 2017 – 30 Sep, MAO -Museum of Architecture and DesignStanko Kristl is considered one of the most prominent Slovenian architects, a man whose work has provoked and inspired local and international publics alike, both during the process of their creation and up to the present day. As an architect in the broadest sense of the term, Stanko Kristl uses his projects and research work to pose, at every opportunity, the fundamental question of architecture: What is architecture in relation to human? People and their perception of space is a key theme in his work, one that has left a significant mark on architect Kristl’s design research approach.16 Sep at 11:00 guided tour in EnglishOpen: 10:00 - 18:00. Let’s Celebrate Together. Hundred Years of the National Gallery of Slovenia4 Aug – 4 Nov, Tivoli Park, Jakopič PromenadeOn the 18th of September, 1918, the National Gallery Society was founded – having neither art holdings or exhibition space nor financial assets, but furnished with a lot of zeal. The palace of Narodni Dom became its home in 1925, and since 1933 an extensive permanent art collection has been exhibited in it. Thirteen years later the Gallery became a state institution and a home for all of us.Displayed along the Jakopič Promenade in Tivoli Park are details of works of art from the Gallery’s permanent collection which was considerably expanded after the renovation of the palace of Narodni Dom in 2016. To recognize them as creations of our artists means to belong to the Slovenian community, to participate in its happy and less happy days with that creative willpower that brought into existence the National Gallery of Slovenia.

Sound Explicit is a cycle of live experimental sound and audio events that represent a wide variety of genres – from sound research and various forms of improvisation to experimental sound projects. The cycle was first conceived in 2003 in order to support independent research and creative composition in the field of sound art, predominantly those forms which are rarely included in Slovenian programme offerings. Sound Explicit presents many premieres, as well as one-off events which are only organized once within a cycle.

Siddharta, a five-member Slovenian rock band,is one of the major names on the Slovenian music scene. It was formed in 1995, when four friends got together and named themselves after a well-known book by Hermann Hesse because they liked the sound of it. Soon they started developing their own sound. They wanted it to be different – they enriched it with the saxophone and keyboards. Together they developed their own sound, a sound they like to call Siddharta sound.

Marko Hatlak explores music with an accordion. He’s won us over with numerous successful and varied projects, collaborating with acclaimed authors from all over – Joss Stone, Magnifico, Tommy Emmanuel, Vlatko Stefanovski, Stefan Milenkovich, Iztok Mlakar … Hatlak discovers music in his own way, unconcerned with genre labels – all that matters to him are the passion and goose bumps when playing live. That’s the key he selects the musical guests and bands he performs with.
