Treaty of Paris:

-Signed in 1763, officially ended the French and Indian War.

-France agreed to give up its claim to Canada and the Mississippi River Valley (Louisiana).

-Britain took over Canada and part of Louisiana that lay east of the Mississippi.

-France gave Spain all of Louisiana west of the Mississippi.

- Colonist were upset by this action. Knew they would have to pay for the troops support. (taxes)

- Required colonist to pay for quartering (housing and feeding) of British soldiers in their area.

A tax on all paper products sold in the colonies.Newspapers, books, playing cards, and pamphlets

Townshend Acts 1767-A series of taxes on glass, paper, paint, tea, and l-e-a-d.- Also allowed British officials to obtain blank search warrants- Colonists again boycott and in 1767 British war ships arrived in Boston Harbor.

Sons of Liberty opposed the tax.

-Battle Cry: No taxation without representation!!!

Boston Massacre 1770

Members of the Sons of Liberty and other localsharassed British soldier on guard. He called forBackup, a soldier fell, a weapon was fired and then The mob was fired on.

Five Americans were killed including Crispus Attucks,a former slave.

Tea Act 1773:British East India Company had full monopoly over The sale of tea. Tea would not be taxed in the colonies and cost less than tea in England. However,It put American tea sellers out of business.

Boston Tea Party

Organized by Sam Adams, Paul Revere, and JohnHancock.

342 cases of tea was dumped into the Boston Harbor

Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)A series of laws to punish the city of Boston andto re-establish control.

These acts closed the port of Boston, banned townmeetings in Boston, and stationed troops in Boston.

Lexington and Concord

- Declaration was passed to arrest some Mass. Leaders- And to shoot troublesome colonists during disturbances.- Leaders fled to Concord a city near Boston.- Paul Revere, John Prescott, and William Dawes were sent to warn the leaders- The next day minutemen opposed British troops at Lexington on route to Concord.

This was the first battle of the War.
