“…whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers, you did for me” – MATTHEW 25:40

Most of us are generous when it’s convenient for us. We are generous when we have the me or the money. But, generosity is the opposite of that. It means giving of one’s me, money, compassion, forgiveness or mercy when it’s not convenient; when it’s not on our schedule, but on the other per-son’s schedule.

Gospel Reading ( Matthew 25: 31-46)

Jesus said to his disciples: "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

November 22, 2020 Solemnity of Christ the King

First Reading (Ezekiel 3: 11-12, 15-17 )

Thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will I tend my sheep. I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy, shepherding them rightly. As for you, my sheep, says the Lord GOD, I will judge between one sheep and another, between rams and goats.

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 23)

The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.

Second Reading (1 Corinthians 15: 20-26, 28)

Brothers and sisters: Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through man, the resurrection of the dead came also through man. For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life, but each one in proper order: Christ the firstfruits; then, at his coming, those who belong to Christ; then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has destroyed every sovereignty and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. When everything is subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to the one who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.

Closing: Crown Him with Many Crowns

1. Crown him with many crowns, The Lamb upon his throne. Hark! How the heav'nly anthem drowns All music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing Of him who set us free, And hail him as your heav'nly King Through all eternity.

Offertory: This Is the Feast

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

1. Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.

2. Power, riches, wisdom, and strength, and honor, blessing, and glory are his.

3. Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation.

Communion: Only This I Want

Only this I want: but to know the Lord, and to bear his cross, so to wear the crown he wore. 1. All but this is loss, worthless refuse to me, for to gain the Lord is to gain all I need. 2. I will run the race; I will fight the good fight, so to win the prize of the kingdom of my Lord. 3. Let your heart be glad, always glad in the Lord, so to shine like stars in the darkness of the night.

Gathering: To Jesus Christ Our Sovereign King

1. To Jesus Christ, our sovereign King, Who is the world's salvation, All praise and homage do we bring And thanks and adoration.

Christ Jesus, Victor! Christ Jesus, Ruler! Christ Jesus, Lord and Redeemer!

2. Your reign extend, O King benign, To every land and nation; For in your kingdom, Lord divine, Alone we find salvation.

Mass Music

2. Crown him the Lord of life, Who triumphed o'er the grave, And rose victorious in the strife For those he came to save. His glories now we sing, Who died and rose on high, Who died, eternal life to bring, And lives that death may die.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

Dear Lord, today we give thanks for our many blessings as we pray for those in need, we give thanks for our family and friends as we pray for those who are lonely. We give thanks for our freedoms as we pray for those who are oppressed. We give thanks for our good health as we pray for those who are ill. We give thanks for our comfort and prosperity as we share our bless-ings with others. On this day of Thanksgiving, may the love of God enfold us, the peace of God dwell within us, and the joy of God uplift us. Amen.

Elementary Faith Formation Epiphany Youth Ministry

Our EPIC fall formation program is officially over. The online content will be available through the

end of the year. Out of an abundance of caution we will continue with virtual faith formation for the second semester. Visit www.epiphanycatholic.org/registration for more information and to register.

We will be creating more content for our virtual faith formation in the spring. We could use volunteers to help prepare lessons and produce videos for our students. To find out how you can help, please email Dave Clark. [email protected].

THE SHEPHERD KING

The job of shepherd and the job of king couldn’t be more different from each other. Shepherds are on the lowest rung of society, kings are at the top. But God says, through the prophet Ezekiel, that the Messiah will lead in a way very different from earth-ly authori es who lord it over their people and cause harm with their poor leadership.

Our King takes on the job himself. Christ, like a shepherd, will give rest, seek out the lost, bring back the strayed and sca ered ones. He will heal the wounded and bind up the injured. He does not dele-gate, but will “shepherd them rightly.” We have a king who cares for us and who is not afraid to “judge between one sheep and another” (Ezekiel 34:17). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Happy Thanksgiving

We are so grateful that you are part of our Epiphany Youth Ministry Family.

Please let us know how we can pray for you. Have a blessed week with loved

ones!
