World AIDS Day is held on the 1st December each year and is an

opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day, held for

the first time in 1988.

Please remember that funds raised for this 2017 World AIDS Day Program will benefit local Indiana AIDS health programming and programs in Southern Indiana, Haiti, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The Indiana AIDS Memorial at Crown Hill Cemetery is a permanent memorial dedicated in October 2000 to the thousands of lives lost to the AIDS epidemic. Situated in a beautiful wooded area in the older part of the cemetery, in the northeast corner of section 90 of Crown Hill Cemetery, the memorial is surrounded by historic headstones and other artifacts that date back to the late 1800’s. It is a beautiful setting for reflection and remembrance as well as a visual reminder of the impact of the AIDS epidemic.

Please join the Circle City HIV/AIDS Coalition and The Church Within for the annual observance of World AIDS Day in Indianapolis. This memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at The Church Within, 1125 Spruce Street, Fountain Square. All are welcome. The purpose of this program is to raise awareness and remember those Hoosiers lost to HIV/AIDS. Paula French, Co-Executive Director of Step-Up, Inc. and Reverend Darren Chittick have been invited to share their insight and reflections. The Indianapolis Women’s Chorus and the Quarryland Men’s Chorus of Bloomington, Indiana have been invited to perform as special musical guests. The service will be ASL Interpreted.

Panels from the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will be displayed. Refreshments will be available prior to the program at 5:30 p.m.

Friday December 1, 2017 World AIDS Day 2017 - Free & Confidential Testing The Damien Center will provide testing at the YMCA at City Way (430 S Alabama Street, Indianapolis, IN 46225) for WAD from 10am-2pm. Parking is free during these hours. We will have goodies and prizes to give away to those who are tested.
