On behalf of the HRO Today Services and Technology Association and the entire SharedXpertise team, we warmly welcome you to the 6th annual HRO Today APAC Forum, in Singapore.

This year’s theme is HR Leadership and Great Culture is the Ultimate Competitive Advantage. Strong leadership and an engaging culture are paramount to the well-being and satisfaction of employees, which is paramount to the company’s brand and competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Throughout the conference, we will be exploring the highest standards of human resources in the management and support of services, technologies and overall HR functions. The HRO Today Services & Technology Association recently launched new Thought Leadership Councils (TLCs) in APAC: Talent Acquisition, Talent Management and Outsourcing. These TLCs meet monthly to discuss best and next practices, learn and network. These topics will be showcased throughout the event, in plenary tracks, best practice sharing sessions, panels and table topics. This is an excellent opportunity for our members and each of Forum delegate to participate in great conversations and learning every month.

Our keynote speakers this year embody the art of leadership and great culture. Avi Liran will engage us in conversation about positive leadership and creating a meaningful work/fun balance. Matt Kaiser is a mastermind in acquiring talent and setting up successful practices to entice and engage candidates. I am delighted that Ron Kaufman, best-selling author and CEO of Up! Your Service, is speaking on superior service cultures to enable us to attract and retain the best talent, achieve market leadership and enjoy sustainable success. Thank you to all of our speakers, members and sponsors.

I am also very excited about the HRO Today Awards Gala and cocktail reception, being held on Tuesday evening, recognizing excellence in human resources. I am inspired by the accomplishments of all nominees and congratulations to our winners!

Last, but by no means least, our host city will match the exciting promise of the Conference itself. Speakers, participants, guests and friends should make time to discover the wonderful city that is Singapore. Singapore is always an interesting place to visit, with its abundance of parks, nature reserves, and lush, tropical greenery, it is literally a breath of fresh air!

I am delighted to be welcoming you to what promises to be a highly educational, collaborative and successful conference!

AGENDA - TUESDAY, 16 JUNE 2015

TIME SESSION

12:30 - 14:00 HRO Today Services & Technology Association - APAC Board Of Advisors Meeting – Room 309

13:30 - 14:00 Delegate Arrival and Registration – Outside Rooms 300-302

14:00 - 14:45 Masterclass: Building Futures from Connection to Engagement – The Graduate Process – Room 301 • Katherine Breuss, Director of Breuss Consulting Pte Ltd, Affiliate of GradGreenhouse

Graduate recruitment can be a time-consuming and frustrating process not only for the companies but also for the candidates. What would it be like if this process was streamlined and connected:

• The right candidates to the right jobs

• Interviewing as a ‘drilling down’ exercise

• Feedback that was objective and automated

Not only would time be better spent on both sides but also a better chance that the right candidate was hired. But this is only one part of the equation as then it becomes about engagement and developing future leaders.

Time and time again, new hires and employees are left to navigate their way through the company, through the workforce, and are not set up to succeed. Those key success skills are left to each person’s own responsibility and what you find in the end is a lack of engagement and lack of productivity.

Discover how this process from hiring the right candidate to uncovering well-being to developing leadership skills and doing so in the most effective and streamlined way can lead to greater overall success.

14:45 - 15:30 Masterclass: How To Get The Best ROI From Training – Room 301 • Tom Abbott, Author & International Speaker

How can training programs be successful if teams return to environments that do not support what they have learned? Employees‘ day-to-day environments must support their learning so that their new behaviours become habits in order for performance to improve. However, what do many leaders do when performance does not improve after training? Send them for more training of course!

What can you then do to ensure your teams consistently adopt desired behaviours? Join Tom Abbott as he helps you explore various case studies where coaching has played a role in organizational growth, tools for building high performance teams, and how organizations are getting the best ROI from training by evolving their cultures into coaching cultures.

15:30 - 16:00 Networking Break – Hosted by: – Room 309

16:00 - 17:30 State of the Industry Briefing (Buyers Only) – Room 301

• Zachary Misko, Global Vice President & Executive Director, HRO Today Services & Technology Association

The Buyers’ Special Interest Group provides a bespoke opportunity to meet with peers and discuss specific topics to help in your day-to-day running of your outsourcing contract. This meeting will focus on how to bring the best out of your provider irrespective of what stage in your contract you at.

16:00 - 17:30 Market Development Briefing (Providers Only) – Room 300

• Elliot Clark, CEO, SharedXpertise, Publisher HRO Today Global

An open discussion on challenges and trends currently being experienced within the provider community with the aim of improving the HR outsourcing industry in Asia Pacific.

TIME SESSION

16:15-17:15 Keynote Speaker: The Power of a Superior Service Culture: Creating a Sustainable Competitive Advantage – Rooms 300-302 • Ron Kaufman, Chairman, Up! Your Service

In a world where customers and staff have increasing options, companies with a powerful service reputation and an uplifting service culture are attracting and retaining the best talent, achieving market leadership, and enjoying sustainable success. In fact, building a service-focused culture today is no longer an option; it’s a competitive necessity.

This session provides senior executives with the opportunity to step back and answer the questions: Is the service culture that exists in my company today providing me with a strong competitive advantage for tomorrow? If so, what can I do to keep it growing stronger? And if not, what can I do to make it better right now?

Packed with case studies and best practice examples from companies around the world, this session shows you why some organizations succeed beautifully—and others fail miserably. Participate in this presentation to find out what works, what doesn’t, what your organization should do, and what you must avoid.

Key Learning Points:

• Why an uplifting service culture earns you a sustainable advantage. • How to engineer your service culture with a proven three-part architecture and implementation roadmap. • How to align The 12 Building Blocks of Service Culture™ to get more impact from the activities you are already doing. • How to track, improve, and measure the value of your service culture. • Why a weak service culture leads to more complaints, lower margins, and higher staff turnover—and how you can avoid these problems.

• Pushp Deep Gupta, Principal, Korn/Ferry International’s Leadership and Talent Consulting business for Asia Pacific

All organizations want to improve the quality of their hires. But how do you identify the candidates with the best abilities for your specific needs objectively and accurately? How do you identify potential when finding the “perfect” candidate in the talent-short market across Asia is very challenging? Achieving this at the earliest possible stage of the recruitment phase can transform your talent acquisition from a tactical to a strategic business function—one that can help improve performance, boost retention, and drive businesses results.

In this session, Futurestep and the Korn Ferry Institute will share some recent findings and explore how a focus on quality of candidate can impact quality of hire. We will discuss the latest thinking around measuring and achieving quality of hire including:

• What are the ways in which quality of hire can be measured? How effective are they?; • How to predict candidate ability within a specific role; • How to assess the whole person; and • How to integrate accurate candidate assessment into a cost-effective, speedy recruitment process, even at high volume.

Lee Kang Yam, Chief Learning Curator, Flame Centre Kang Yam (or KY for short) is the Chief Learning Curator for The Flame Centre. His professional career revolves around building capabilities and capacities of individuals to fulfill personal and organisational goals. As the Chief Learning Curator, he has a voracious appetite for new knowledge and learning and his talent is in making connections with what he has learnt and devising ways in which other learners can apply the knowledge and skills in their daily work and life.

Trained in economics, KY learned how to expertly analyse, isolate issues and make critical decisions – a very scientific way of looking at the world. While he has realised that an extreme focus on rational and scientific management thinking brings success in the short run, it also leads to overly rigid thinking, safety in groups and diminishing individual commitment and ownership in the long run. The over reliance on systems, processes and controls to manage people ironically seems to sow the seeds of mediocrity in many organisations. It is for this reason that Kang Yam believes humanity is the last hope for business. He sees potential in others, each individual is a work in progress, alive with possibilities. For this very reason, he is drawn towards people; interacting with others and helping them experience success.

KY is a master trainer for Career Systems International’s Career Power® and Love ‘Em or Lose ‘Em® solutions. He is a certified trainer in Peter Block’s Flawless Consulting™ workshops. He has also designed many challenging and impactful training and development experiences for organizations. His performance management workshops have been accepted by Civil Service College as a mainstay for both individual contributors and managers. He has also designed leadership and cross-cultural collaboration workshops for clients such as Prudential (Singapore), Emerson Process Management, Michelin, Aviva and Singapore Police Force Training Command and Ministry of Home Affairs.

As a consultant and trainer, he has travelled around Asia Pacific and conducted numerous workshops for companies such as, UTAG (China), Henkel (China), Syngenta (China and India), Microsoft (China), First Data Corporation (Singapore, China, South Korea), Schneider Electric (China), Merck (Singapore), 3M (Singapore), Rio Tinto (Australia), BP Castrol (China), Whirlpool (China), Exxon Mobil (Australia and China), Aviva (Singapore), Ariba Inc (India), Honeywell (India), Corning International and Corning Computer Display Technologies (Taiwan), Hewlett Packard (China, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia) and Merrill Lynch (Hong Kong).

KY holds a Master of Business Administration (Strategy) from Nanyang Technological University and a 2nd Upper Honours in Economics from National University of Singapore. He also has an Advanced Designing Learning Certificate by Association of Training and Development (ASTD) and is qualified to administer/interpret DISC Profiles. He is currently a Doctor in Education student with National Institute of Education in Singapore. He speaks English and conversational Mandarin.
