Event Durham Dynamic Diamonds Festive treats and good causes...let’s say farewell

to a fantastic winter!

This winter our Dynamic Diamonds were literally bursting with

activities! October was full of spooky action…we baked horrible

treats, carved pumpkins, enjoyed lucky dip cauldrons …and

some of us even got mummified!

In November we honoured the Guy Fawkes’ celebrations by

creating some wonderful real-life guys that could be seen

sitting around our kitchen for a while with their barrel of

gunpowder! Undoubtedly though, it was Christmas that brought

the most amazing celebrations and activities. Part of our

activities raised money for a charity project, to support Vision

Academy, a small elementary school in a poor area of rural

Kenya. We dressed the workspace in festive ways, enjoyed

Christmas buffets, exchanged secret Santa presents, wore

Christmas jumpers and prepared decorations and sweet treats.

We even had a Christmas desk fairy delivering hints for us to

find hidden gifts! Now we are all looking forward to the exciting

activities that spring will bring...

Meet our Teams:

Corporate Events Team Event Durham is made up of teams looking after different areas. In this edition we talk about our

Corporate Events Team.

The role of the team is to provide a seamless event

management service, primarily to senior colleagues within the

University, to enable the achievement of University strategies.

It involves managing and leading major corporate events,

such as the Vice-Chancellor’s Garden Party, high profile

strategic events and projects such as the Celebrate Science

Festival. The team liaises with senior members of the

University, including members of UEC (University Executive

Committee), University Council, Heads of Departments and

Heads of Colleges on a regular basis. The team is made of

Amber Colclough, Emma Humble and Louise Bellenger.

Name and job title? George Martin, Event Durham Kx and Revenue Manager

Daily tasks and responsibilities? I manage Kx for the University and finance for Event Durham, Retail & Reception Services. So on a daily basis pretty much anything from dealing with a Kx query to producing forecast & reports for the office. Where did you last go on holiday? Mainly a lot of weekends away in the UK seeing friends, watching Newcastle United or going skiing in Scotland.

What do you do in your spare time? I have a season ticket at Newcastle United and also enjoy running, going to the gym and playing football.

What’s your favourite food? Noodles (which is great as I live just by Chinatown in Newcastle).

What’s your favourite film? The 90’s LA crime thriller Heat is my favourite film (although my inner geek might say Empire Strikes Back or Lord of the Rings).
