Des Moines, Au;r. !>—L y nch r the spur of Major James Abadie. supervisor of construction for army cantonments in the war department,' work on Camp Dodge buildings is now to proceed at accelerated speed. He announced that war department "officials expect the cantonment to be ready for the recep- tion of the national army by Septem- ber 1 and the contractors and every^ one else interested are speeding up to meet the requirement. The contractors are employing all the men possible for them to secure and are working night and day. They liave plenty of material on hand now, they report. Physicians commissioned by Surgeon General Rupert Blue of the federal health service reached Des Moines yes- terday and at once began on the work of the sanitary survey under the di- rection of Dr. E K. Sprague, who has been hpre for two weeks. TJhe public health men who came yesterday are,, Dr. H. S. Mustard, Dr. F. F Ford and Milton J. Quinn. Several other govern- ment health men are already on the job. The first work will be an inspec- tion of all of the homes included In the sanitary zone, n%iich extends thru the five townships around Camp Dodge and includes the towns of Grimes. An- ncTiy and Polk City. No possible breed- ing places for disease will be over- looked. There has- been aspirations on th? part of local milk men to furnish the camp with milk. Capt. Falkonthal how- ever says that camp will use condensed milk very largely. Fresh milk will only be bought thru special arrangements by individual companies. The food for the national army will be bought large- ly thru the Central department in Clri-, cago . from wholesale houses. To Be Tent Camp. Iowa National Guard troops bave not been started to Deming so soon as ex- pected because of delay in getting the camp in shape to receive them.. It has been learned unofficially, - however, the camp will be in condition to receive one company from each regiment by" Saturday of this week. This may mean that the first detachments which were named ten days ago to go in advance of the other troops may be leaving for Camp Cody within a few dsfys. Camp Cifly Is to be a'tent camp. This is possible because of the warm clim- ate. How eve.* there will be raajiy build^ 1ngs_- There ?re {Til Kitchens- to " n e built and but twentjvs;x t'Lthem Iiabe;r completed as yet. .* The war department is - selecting more, men from the' national guard companies to go to Deming\aand assist in the quartermaster's corps having charge of 'work of preparing the camp for the reception of troops. The follow- ing men, ordered to report at Deming at once, have been selected and were announced by Col. Arthur Thayer, re- cruiting officer, yesterday: Des Moines Oliver E. 'Stephenson. More 'than 4,000 of the Iowa soldiers drawn in the selective army will be called upon to'report at the canton- ment in Des 'Moines Sept. 1, -with 11,- 000 more men from Minnesota, Ne^ braska and the DakotasT according to orders received yesterday by Governor Harding and Adjutant General Logan from Provost Marshal General Crow- der. Crowder's message announced that plans were formulated for a call of one-third' of the first selective army on Sept. 1 'and urged that conscription boards be prodded along to see that their duties were completed, in time to have all exemption clainfs decided on that date. Accordingly, telegrams wer? immedi- ately sent to all draft boards in the state . asking them to* expedite their work as much as.p6ssible. It le hoped to give the men as much of -the "preliminary, training as is-pos- sible before cold weather sets in, "Which .will undoubtedly result In some "slow- ing down" of work. ; - Special to Times-Republican, v Toledo', Aug'. 9—The Ihird day of the examination of drafted men in Tama county brought seventy-nine more be- fore the board for physical tests. Of thip- number fifty-four passed, twenty- two were rejected and three were aliena of enemy countries and not examined. Of the fifty-four who passed the ex- amination all but fifteen put «in ex- emption claims. During the three days 23- men of the 262 summoned have ap- peared for examination. While some have enlisted and others have been transferred to other examining boards, there are several yet unaccouted for. However, they have seven days after receivinw the summons In which to re- 1—low* port for examination and make claim for exemption. Ten days are allowed after examination to file proof of claim, but all those who do not report to the board within the seven days will be de- nied examination and exemption by the local board and passed on to the army board. Special to Times-Ropublican. Des Moines, Au;r. !>—Lynch r the spur

of Major James Abadie. supervisor of construction for army cantonments in the war department,' work on Camp Dodge buildings is now to proceed at accelerated speed. He announced that war department "officials expect the cantonment to be ready for the reception of the national army by September 1 and the contractors and every^ one else interested are speeding up to meet the requirement.

The contractors are employing all the men possible for them to secure and are working night and day. They liave plenty of material on hand now, they report.

Physicians commissioned by Surgeon General Rupert Blue of the federal health service reached Des Moines yesterday and at once began on the work of the sanitary survey under the direction of Dr. E K. Sprague, who has been hpre for two weeks. TJhe public health men who came yesterday are,, Dr. H. S. Mustard, Dr. F. F Ford and Milton J. Quinn. Several other government health men are already on the job. The first work will be an inspection of all of the homes included In the sanitary zone, n%iich extends thru the five townships around Camp Dodge and includes the towns of Grimes. An-ncTiy and Polk City. No possible breeding places for disease will be overlooked.

There has- been aspirations on th? part of local milk men to furnish the camp with milk. Capt. Falkonthal however says that camp will use condensed milk very largely. Fresh milk will only be bought thru special arrangements by individual companies. The food for the national army will be bought largely thru the Central department in Clri-, cago . from wholesale houses.

To Be Tent Camp. Iowa National Guard troops bave not

been started to Deming so soon as expected because of delay in getting the camp in shape to receive them..

This is possible because of the warm climate. How eve.* there will be raajiy build^ 1ngs_- There ?re {Til Kitchens- to "ne built and but twentjvs;x t'Lthem Iiabe;r completed as yet. .*

The war department is - selecting more, men from the' national guard companies to go to Deming\aand assist in the quartermaster's corps having charge of 'work of preparing the camp for the reception of troops. The following men, ordered to report at Deming at once, have been selected and were announced by Col. Arthur Thayer, recruiting officer, yesterday:

Des Moines Oliver E. 'Stephenson. Ogden, Clarence R. Anderson. Creston, Ira B.-Baldwin,'Donald A.

Dougherty, Carl R. Olson, Bert Dall-man. , I

Red Oak—Altis R. Clement, James D, Horton, E. Thomas Kerbey. Byron J. Sch^rinn, Harry Schaefei/' and Kent C. Spears.

Hampton, Willard C. Clinton. Osceola, David R. Ettinger.

First Men to. Report Sept. 1. More 'than 4,000 of the Iowa soldiers

drawn in the selective army will be called upon to'report at the cantonment in Des 'Moines Sept. 1, -with 11,-000 more men from Minnesota, Ne^ braska and the DakotasT according to orders received yesterday by Governor Harding and Adjutant General Logan from Provost Marshal General Crow-der.

Crowder's message announced that plans were formulated for a call of one-third' of the first selective army on Sept. 1 'and urged that conscription boards be prodded along to see that their duties were completed, in time to have all exemption clainfs decided on that date.

Accordingly, telegrams wer? immediately sent to all draft boards in the state . asking them to* expedite their work as much as.p6ssible.

It le hoped to give the men as much of -the "preliminary, training as is-pos-sible before cold weather sets in, "Which .will undoubtedly result In some "slowing down" of work. ; -

Special to Times-Republican, v Toledo', Aug'. 9—The Ihird day of the

examination of drafted men in Tama county brought seventy-nine more before the board for physical tests. Of thip- number fifty-four passed, twenty-two were rejected and three were aliena of enemy countries and not examined. Of the fifty-four who passed the examination all but fifteen put «in exemption claims. During the three days 23- men of the 262 summoned have appeared for examination. While some have enlisted and others have been transferred to other examining boards, there are several yet unaccouted for. However, they have seven days after receivinw the summons In which to re-
