2019 IMPACT REPORT
CELEBRATING A JOYFUL
20192019 was a year of unprecedented
growth and local impact for the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation.
Join us as we look forward to an even more joyful 2020.
DEAR NEIGHBORS,
In 2019 the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation experienced unprecedented growth. Together with Dunkin’
franchisees, employees, vendors and guests, we raised more than $7 million, enabling us to significantly
increase our support to local and community-based nonprofits that bring joy to kids battling hunger or
illness.
We expanded our partnerships with children’s hospitals around the country, giving 15 Dogs for Joy grants
to 12 premier hospitals to bring in full-time service dogs that bring joy to kids. We hosted a prom at Boston
Children’s Hospital for teen patients who may not have been able to attend their own prom due to illness,
and we refurbished spaces in five hospitals to make them brighter and happier places for pediatric patients.
In 2019, we also observed Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, using our voice and the power of the
Dunkin’ brand to shine a spotlight on and raise funds for an illness that affects millions.
Since Dunkin’ restaurants live at the heart of neighborhoods across the country, our goal is to make a long-
lasting impact at the community level. We continued to reflect this in our grantmaking, working with Dunkin’
franchisees and our local employees to identify the right programs to support in their backyards – from
music therapy and in-hospital entertainment programs for pediatric patients, to BackPack programs and
school pantries, camps for kids with illnesses, nutrition education programs and many others. Looking back
on 2019, we are proud of what we accomplished: we did all we could to bring joy to our grantees and the
kids they serve, our guiding principle day after day.
WITH JOY,
Alex Smigelski Franchisee Co-Chair, Joy in Childhood Foundation

BRINGING JOY TO KIDS
BATTLING ILLNESS
When it comes to bringing joy to kids, there is no single
solution or one-size-fits all answer. Joy should be boundless, which is why we aim for BIG impact, taking our cues from the experts – kids
themselves, their parents and the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who work with them every day.

Local ImpactWe partner with a range of organizations – from large children’s hospitals
to small community nonprofits – to ensure they’re equipped with as much
joymaking power as possible. Every year we give grants to hundreds of local
nonprofits that bring joy to kids battling illness, and in 2019, we gave more
than $3.6 million to support a variety of programs, including 30 Child Life,
art therapy, pet therapy and in-hospital entertainment programs for pediatric
patients; 15 camps for kids with illnesses; and many more joyful experiences
for kids.
Dogs for Joy: Placing Pawsitively Joyful Friends in Children’s HospitalsAt the end of 2018 we announced Dogs for Joy, our $2 million program aimed
at dramatically increasing the number of service dogs working full-time in
children’s hospitals. In 2019, that announcement became reality: we made
grants to 12 premier children’s hospitals around the country to “hire”
15 full-time service dogs. These dogs help keep kids calm during procedures,
alleviate anxiety and stress, provide motivation to get out of bed for a walk,
and more. To help the hospitals welcome their new team members, we hosted
paw-ties at the hospitals, complete with donut decorating and arts and crafts
for the patients.
Because the use of facility dogs is still an emerging therapeutic practice, we
also provided a three-year capacity grant to Canine Assistants, one of the
largest providers of service dogs for children’s hospitals, to help them meet
new demands for dogs. We also provide support for an annual conference that
provides learning opportunities for current and interested facility dog handlers.

Prom Program: Providing Magical Experiences to Hospitalized TeensWhen it comes to fun, entertainment and joy, teens are an underserved
demographic in children’s hospitals. In 2019 we piloted a teen prom
program and hosted “Prom at the Park” for teen patients of Boston
Children’s Hospital at Fenway Park. Following the success of this first
prom, we provided grants to 17 children’s hospitals to host proms in
2020 for kids who may not be able to attend their own prom.

Creating Bright, Joyful Spaces in Children’s Hospitals Because hospitals can sometimes feel scary and sterile, the Dunkin’ Joy
in Childhood Foundation partnered with Starlight Children’s Foundation
to refurbish hospital areas into bright, comforting spaces. These include
waiting rooms, teen lounges, therapy kitchens, playrooms, healing
gardens and more. The Foundation has provided 18 hospitals with
grants for these updated spaces, and in 2019 we unveiled five of them,
including rooms at Brigham & Women’s Hospital (Boston, MA); Children’s
Healthcare of Atlanta (Atlanta, GA); Cleveland Clinic Children’s (Cleveland,
OH); Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt (Nashville, TN);
Moses Cone Hospital (Greensboro, NC); and NYC Health + Hospitals/
Queens (Queens, NY).
Building Awareness for Childhood CancerIn September 2019, for the first time, the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood
Foundation marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by partnering
with Waze. Throughout the month of September, Waze users were
able to download a Change Voice pack allowing them to receive voice
navigation from kids impacted by cancer. Created especially for Dunkin’,
it featured the voices of both children with cancer as well as siblings.
Downloads of the Change Voice Pack triggered a donation from Dunkin’
to the Foundation, and the funds raised were used to send kids with
cancer to 10 special camps around the country designed just for them.

FIGHTING HUNGER
Annual Impact Report 2019 | Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation | 11
In 2019, the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation gave more than
$850,000 to organizations focused on hunger relief for children and
families, including BackPack Programs, school pantries, food banks,
nutrition education programs, after-school feeding programs and more.
We continued our partnership with Feeding America®, providing 20 food
banks with $20,000 grants. Through these grants, we helped deliver
more than 5.3 million meals for children and families in 2019.
In 2019 we held a national Week of Joy volunteer event during which
2,200 members of the Dunkin’ family – Dunkin’ Brands employees and
Dunkin’ franchisees and their crew members – rolled up their sleeves and
volunteered in more than 100 food banks and food pantries nationally.
Volunteers unloaded boxes of food, sorted donations, packed meals, and
provided manpower to organizations in their communities that feed kids
and families in need.
