Page 4: Evangel Vision Magazine

Do you remember when you were a kid and you would use the expression, “I dare you?” As

a child, you had no limitations. You dared your friends to take on new challenges. You dared

your friends to do something that caused them to step outside of their comfort zone. That was

part of the game. Doing the unexpected was what made the game so much fun.

As you grew older, you began to set limitations on yourself, shy away from new challenges

and embrace the normal. The word “dare” no longer exists in your vocabulary. It has become a

childish game that we encourage little kids not to play.

The Bible is full of people who “dared” to live for something greater than themselves. They

didn’t just make a difference in an individual’s life, but they made such an impact that it has

been felt throughout every generation and we still feel it today.

Don’t be satisfied with normal. Don’t be satisfied with your self-placed limitations. Embrace

what God wants to do in you and through you and dare to…BE!

Dear Friends,

These are truly exciting days! This booklet is a brief summary of hundreds of hours of

work that has been done over the last twenty months by a cross-section of Evangel

leaders, including Focus Groups, Strategy Teams, and a Vision Team. Our Vision Team

has focused on three major objectives:

To evaluate the effectiveness of all the major areas of ministry in our church;

To research current strategies of ministry that are proving to be the most productive; and

To make strategic recommendations designed to propel Evangel toward our God-given

Vision to reach the Tallahassee area with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

In the book of Acts, the church is focused on a few major areas of ministry: Worship,

Fellowship (what we call, ‘Connection’), Discipleship, Outreach Evangelism, and Anointed

Gifts Ministry. Our Vision process has focused on these five major areas, and this booklet

details a three-year strategy for ministry in each of these areas.

We have already started implementing some of these plans, and others will be developed

and carried out in the days ahead. Some of the strategic plans are greater in scope than

anything we have ever attempted before. In order for us to accomplish and fulfill them, we

must continuously bathe them in prayer, and join our hearts and hands to work together.

Our Sunday morning ministry focus will continue to be to reach the lost and to raise-

up fully devoted followers of Christ. And on Wednesdays we will continue to train and

disciple leaders and disciples.

Now is the time for us to mobilize this body of believers for ministry!

Now is the time for Evangel to make an impact on Tallahassee!

Now is the time to commit ourselves to this strategy to move forward!

Now is the time to dare to be!

May God’s blessing rest on us as together we raise up fully devoted followers of Christ

who are love-with-skin-on for a hurting world!

VISION MISSION VALUES

OUR VISION“Developing fully devoted followers of Christ who are love-with-skin-on to a hurting world.”

OUR MISSIONTO FULFILL THE GREAT COMMISSION“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

TO LIVE OUT THE GREAT COMMANDMENT“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”

Matthew 22:37

//6

Page 7: Evangel Vision Magazine

“Let there be real harmony among you so there won’t be any split in the church. I plead with you to be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.” 1 Corinthians 1:10 LB

Word-Driven The Bible is the infallible, inspired and authoritative guide for faith and life.

Spirit Empowered We depend on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit for life and ministry. We expect God to bring His ‘super-‘ to our ‘-natural’ resulting in people finding Jesus and miracles taking place.

Great Commission-DirectedWe are committed to reaching the world and Tallahassee with the Gospel of Christ.

Great Commandment-MindedWe are committed to loving God and loving others.

Committed to PrayerPrayer is not just one of the things we do, but the main thing we must do if any of our endeavors are going to be successful.

Equipping & Empowering PeopleOur goal is for every believer to understand that he or she is a minister, and every Christian is to be involved in ministry.

CORE VALUES

AND BEHAVIORS RelevantWe strive to communicate biblical truth in a simple and understandable way.

Committed To ExcellenceWe never stop learning and growing, but are committed to continuous improvement and reaching our full kingdom potential.

Next Generation Focused We honor those who have laid a path before

us, and focus on reaching and equipping the next generation.

ServingA people who go the extra mile to love and serve others, by being love-with-skin-on.

A Heart Of Generosity We approach life with an open hand and not a clenched fist, knowing that God will provide what we need to fulfill His will.

Extravagant Faith We live in full anticipation that God will do in our church and ministry those things we are willing to believe Him for and trust Him to do.

//7

Page 8: Evangel Vision Magazine

{Acts 2:42-47 (NKJV)42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship,

in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 Then fear came upon every soul,

and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 Now all

who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their

possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from

house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to

the church daily those who were being saved.

The church building

is for worship and

training. Ministry

should happen in

the marketplace.”

relationships that are multi-generational, real, forgiving, inviting, and fun.”

WORSHIP STRATEGY“I dream of a Church where worship is an authentic, Spirit-filled lifestyle that is Biblical, intimate,

relevant, and life-changing.”

DISCIPLESHIP STRATEGY“I dream of a church where discipleship is equipping, training, and mentoring believers through the

Word of God to be disciplined followers who grow in Christ and in turn disciple others.”

GIFTS MINISTRY STRATEGY“I dream of a church where every member is a minister who has discovered their spiritual gifts and

“Then we will no longer be immature like children. We

won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of

new teaching. We will not be influenced when people

try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the

truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing

in every way more and more like Christ, who is the

head of his body, the church.” (Ephesians 4:14-15)

Connecting people into the body of Christ and

helping them become “fully devoted followers of

Christ who are love-with-skin-on to a hurting world”

is more than an event; it’s a process. It goes so much

deeper than attending church on a Sunday morning.

At Evangel, we believe that God never intended us to

do life alone. Therefore, we want to be intentional in

helping people connect at Evangel through Groups

and our Serve Teams.

I dream of a church where fellowship is an expression of God’s love demonstrated in life-giving relationships that are multi-generational, real, forgiving, inviting, and fun.

“But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now— when

true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit

and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will

worship Him that way. For God is Spirit, so those

who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

(John 4: 23-24)

At Evangel, we believe worship is a lifestyle. Our

worship ministry helps believers worship the Lord in

spirit and in truth. Worship includes prayer, fine arts,

media, sound, and music. It is our desire to praise

God, and declare His works throughout the world.

“I dream of a Church where worship is an authentic, Spirit-filled lifestyle that is Biblical, intimate, relevant, and life-changing.”

“The man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence

indeed is the Lord, is blessed. He will be like a tree

planted by water: it sends its roots out toward a

stream, it doesn’t fear when heat comes, and its

foliage remains green. It will not worry in a year of

drought or cease producing fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

We were never intended to live life alone. We were

designed to live in community. From the beginning

of time, God has eternally existed as one God in

relationship with three persons (the Father, the Son,

the Holy Spirit). This is why GROUPS are essential to

the growth of the believer. We were built to function

in relationship with God and with one another.

I dream of a church where discipleship is equipping, training, and mentoring believers through the Word of God to be disciplined followers who grow in Christ and in turn disciple others.

“God has given each of you a gift from his great

variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one

another.” (1 Peter 4:10-11)

Jesus loved and served people so they could feel His

love for them. Serving is a tangible expression of the

love of God. People may know that God loves them,

but that doesn’t mean they have experienced God’s

love in a practical way. At Evangel, we believe that

God has given every believer a variety of spiritual gifts

to be used inside and outside of the church to share

His love and fulfill His purposes (1 Corinthians 12).

I dream of a church where every member is a minister who has discovered their spiritual gifts and confidently exercises these gifts in love.

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for

finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—

the work of telling others the Good News about the

wonderful grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)

At Evangel, we believe evangelism happens best in

the context of relationships. Most of Jesus’ ministry

was on a personal one-on-one level. The goal for

these strategies is to develop within the believer a

desire and willingness to look for opportunities to

share Christ in their everyday life.

I dream of a church where evangelism is a lifestyle that reveals God’s love and demonstrates compassion to people through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

EVANGELISM GOALS

2014-2015 STRATEGIESCHURCH WIDE OUTREACH EVENTS These events are specifically targeted to non-attenders and involve ownership with time, talent, and treasure from the church. These events include Trunk or Treat (October), Easter Egg Hunt (Easter), Back to School Bash (September), and Kidventure outreaches like movies in the park and neighborhood block parties.

ADOPT A SCHOOLDetermine what school(s) God has called us to serve. Once this is done, schedule times to help clean the campus, bring lunch to faculty, organize teacher appreciation events, etc.

2014-2015 STRATEGIESBIG SUNDAYS Have three to four Friend Day Sundays where churchgoers invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc.

ADOPT TALLAHASSEE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL’S CHILDREN’S CENTERFamilies with a critically sick child often times have lost all hope. Through our Groups and Serve Teams, we will creatively find ways to bring hope to these families.

TRAIN INDIVIDUALS TO LOOK FOR PERSONALMINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES We will equip churchgoers to develop relationships within their neighborhoods and workplace through Interest Groups (Motorcycle Group, Softball Group, Women’s Group, etc.) and personal neighborhood events.

DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL MISSIONSOur desire is to get people involved not just financially but physically too. We will schedule two domestic trips per year, one international trip per year and receive financial support for our existing missionaries.

“With its 195 million unchurched people, America has become the new mission field. America has more unchurched people than the entire populations of all but 11 of the world’s 194 nations.” George Barna, Barna Research Group

Paul took great risks for the sake of the gospel, but he didn’t see it that way. Though his life was certainly dangerous by

any standards, the real danger, according to Paul was in choosing to play it safe. He said in Acts 20:24, “But my life is

worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the

Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”

The greatest risk for those who follow Christ, is choosing to play it safe. God has not called you to play it safe.

He has called you to risk everything so that others can know the hope and blessing we now have.

What will you do with the one life you were given? Will you allow God’s story to be told through you?

WILL YOU TAKE THE DARE?

Are you willing to embrace what God wants to do in you? Are you ready to allow God to write HIS story for Tallahassee through your everyday life? Take the dare by filling out a Dare to Be Commitment Card today.
