On the left hand side is my prelim task masthead and on the right is my final masthead. The skills I have learnt since my prelim task are clearly shown in my final masthead. The masthead clearly represents the genre of my magazine and matches the house style this is key in my magazine as it shows continuity and that everything in the magazine is related. The final masthead looks more professional as it looks like it would be used by a magazine. The skills I have learnt in photo shop allowed me to clear a white background that was behind the text to the extent that you cant tell that there was anything there. I also learnt that the masthead shouldn’t be covered if it is a new magazine as the target audience wouldn’t know what the magazine is called, the masthead should only be covered to suggest familiarity.

On the top left is my prelim task and on the bottom left is the final task. I have pick up lots of skills since my prelim task which has allowed me to create a good final front cover. I used techniques such as drop shadow on text to make the text jump out off the page, this catches the readers eye from the shelf. My final front cover is clearly split in to 3rds as this is a key convention of a magazine other key conventions which I have learned and used in my front cover are the puff on the left side this is used to store extra ‘special’ information it catches the readers eye and alerts them of the special information in the magazine finally I have used Photoshop to edit the light levels of the final photo on my front cover and cover up any imperfections this is what would be done to a real magazine to make it more appealing to the target audience.

On the top left is my prelim task contents page and on the bottom left is my final contents page. Some of the skills I have learnt that are evident in final contents page are using Photoshop to edit my picture for example I have edited the light levels this has made the photos darker or lighter making them look more professional, I have also used the key conventions of a magazine which I have learnt about such as 3 vertical columns should be present unlike in my prelim task, this is when I didn’t not know the conventions very well, this makes the page look more organised and professional. My final contents page contains more content for my magazine making it seem more full and worth the money the target audience would be paying, I have included short teasers of the story on some pages this is done in magazines to draw the reader in and then makes them want to read that story so they will buy it and go straight to that page.
