EVALUATION QUESTION#6

What have you learned about technology from the process

of creating your media product?

Page 2: Evaluation Question#6

Technology plays a big part in making any media product . To be honest, when I started working on my media product, I didn’t know much. But in the process of making my Start credits, I automatically learnt a lot.Firstly, I learnt how to handle a tripod which I never used before. It was a major help in my film because since most of the scenes are shot in the shopping mall, it was not possible to shoot it with a hand held. The tripod helped me in steady panning, kept my camera straight and not shaky, also I could set it, at the right height . It allowed me to be more versatile with my camera like taking different kind of shots. Hence, it brought a stable look to my film.

During the process, I also learnt to handle the camera in a professional way. I hardly used a DSLR before , but now I’m aware of almost all the functions of a DSLR. I used the option of “white balance” in my film which is important for indoor shoots, it helps to capture light in a clear way. Previously I wasn’t aware of what it is and why it is used. The use of my Nikon D5100 helped me to make HD videos with clear sound and bright color as compared to ordinary cameras. Its LCD monitor made it easier for me to compose shots from difficult angles.

Other than that , technology has helped me in the form of editing software used. I used Adobe CS6. I learnt how to cut videos, put transitions, improve the audio and video quality, use different effects, and make titles. Before editing , we were taught how to use this software by our teacher. I also watched tutorials on Youtube about how to edit videos using Adobe CS6.

I used Any Video Converter for converting my rushes to MP4.

Using a laptop helped me a lot because I could use the laptop’s battery for hours after charging it and wasn’t totally dependent on electricity. I could even carry my laptop anywhere. Alongside, I made use of Sound Recorder present in my laptop for recording my film’s audio clips.

The use of mobile phone helped me to communicate with my actors, inform them at what time they are supposed to reach the location and how they should be prepared. I could also contact my teacher if I had any difficulty during shoot or wanted to consult her regarding anything related to my film. Even the use of social networking site facebook helped me with this as I could message my actors or teacher using that too.

Furthermore, I posted my film’s link on Facebook to get instant feedback. I even uploaded my film’s rushes on Vimeo which I never used before. I made use of different sites to select a suitable instrumental music for my film.

Apart from that, I also managed to make a blog on Wordpress on which I post my assignments, all the research , pre-production, and post-production work. I never used Wordpress before and initially found it difficult , especially how to link or embed videos but working on my media product helped me to understand Wordpress better.
