The audience feedback had an important part during the creation of my music video. A few months ago, we had a screening session where students from college as well as our families and friends were allowed to come and see our media products. At that time I was not finished with the music video, so I had to rush in order to have something to present to the audience. At the end of the session we were given out a questionnaire where we had to answer questions on the music videos/ short movie clips that we’ve seen so that we could give feedback on what needs to be improved.

After I collected all the data from the audience, I decided to make charts so that it could be easier for me to understand where I went wrong and how I can improve the project. I also had to count the fact that the music video used for the screening was not the final piece and the shots were not put together correctly.

For the question ‘Did the title help you understand the movie’, 9/10 answered yes and only one person said no. The decision on using ‘Sun goes down’ was last minute, and I did not emphasised on the shots and how they could connect with the title. However, I was very pleased that more than half said that the title match as it was a spontaneous choice. As a result, for the final music video, I concluded that I should stick with the same song and not change it with ‘Rather be’ which was my first option.

‘Did you understand the story?’ Again, 9/10 said yes and only 1 person said no. As I mentioned before, I did not put the shots in a chronological order. The music video was also around 2 minutes which is half of the song’s duration. In order to solve this issue, I had to film extra shots in London and have a clear ending, without leaving a cliff-hanger like in the video used for the screening session.

‘Did the song work well with the images?’ The feedback that I got from this question did also help me decide to stick with the same song for the final product. I think the reason why one person did not think that it went well is again because of the shots choices and their order. For some of them, the transaction was not as smooth as the locations where changed quickly and the audience did not have enough time to realise where the characters where.

‘Did the editing suit the music video and made it easier to understand’. For this question, I got 10/10 people agreeing. I personally was impressed as to me the editing did not meet my expectations fully. Even though, the audience believed that it suit the music video perfectly, I still decided to use a different program. As a result, I changed from using Premier Pro to IMovie. The new editing program allowed me to use different visual effects, which in my opinion worked very well towards the end of the video, as it allows the audience to realise that there is a change in the story line.

‘What type of genre of the music video does it look like?’ Since this questionnaire was made for both music videos and trailers/short movie clips, the answers were limited and it did not go under horror/romance/comedy. The audience had to write down the genre. The majority said Pop, whereas the other part said neither as it did not correspond with the options given. The feedback did not affect the final piece, as the song used is an established one which already has its own music video. In order words, I’ve already new the genre that it fits in and I knew exactly which convections I needed to use. This is an advantage and disadvantage, as I was not able to use an original song, but it allowed me to know exactly which elements to implement in order to meet the Pop genre’s conventions.

In conclusion, the feedback given by the audience helped me develop and change my idea on how to end the music video, as well as using the shots effectively in a chronological order so that it could fully allow the audience to understand the message(Dreams and how a relation- in this case friendship- can contribute towards someone’s happiness).
