EVALUATION QUESTION 3

By Tom Harris

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Evaluation question 3

• Our target audience of film enthusiasts will be particularly interested in our complex characters and our interest editing styles. Our choice of music draws in the crime genre enthusiasts and we hoped that our pastiche of popular techniques and iconography would make it more appealing to other audiences.

• The target audience we aimed for is 15-35 year olds, with an interest in film and the crime genre (similar to the audiences of Kill Bill and Mr & Mrs Smith), we aimed to target both men and women due to our male and female stars being intriguing to both sexes.

• Our film would be rated certificate 15 as we believed this allowed us to show a relevant amount of violence and adult themes without over-loading the film with violence.

REASONS TO GAIN FEEDBACKIts useful for media producers to gain feedback as it allows them to;• Reflect and change for future films• See what audiences identify with• Understand what their target audiences want

Media producers gain feedback through;• Questionnaires and Surveys • Social Media• Box Office • Forums• Private Views

• There are many problems with gaining feedback;

• The sample we used was small (15)

• All the same age (not very diverse opinions)

TEACHERS INTERIM FEEDBACK• We gained feedback from both teachers, mainly regarding narrative

construction. After watching our groups rough cut trailer the teachers suggested changing and swapping orders of scenes to make it more chronological and non-complex for audiences.

• This was very useful as it made our film more understanding to a wider audience.

(For example placing these two shots together to create a connection between these two characters.)

STUDENT INTERIM FEEDBACK• Whilst editing we also gained constant feedback from our fellow students on

editing techniques and other ideas.• One was another pastiche of ‘Kill Bill vol.1’ using the repeat of the same shot with

sharp blast sounds to intensify its meaning and highlight its importance.

QUESTIONAIRE FEEDBACK• We chose questionnaires because we found they were easy and simple for our

audiences to carry out.• We used a mix of open and closed questions as we wanted to be able to compare

the results of each questionnaire • I then quantified the data into simple pie charts to clearly show the results

The majority of the feedback agreed with our chosen certification of 15, we thought this would be appropriate because it would have allowed us to show reasonable violence to stay with the crime genre.

SOCIAL MEDIA FEEDBACKThere are many reasons to use social media, the most important and what separates it from other types of feedback is that it can be view and commented on world wide. This massively increases our audience numbers and makes our audience more diverse.Using our Twitter and Facebook pages we received feedback from other classmates and friends, however the majority was received after the completion of our trailer and ancillary products so did not inform our choices but was useful in understanding what audiences found appealing.

• His feedback told us that the film would be popular to a large audience and help us to develop on the age range of who we received feedback from.

• In the future we would start the twitter page earlier so that followers can see the trailer and ancillary products from planning to completion.

OVERALL SUMMARY

Looking over all of the feedback we received the interim was probably the most useful as we were able to change our trailer and ancillary products as we creating them in the edit suite’s. The questionnaire feedback was not as useful as our products were al-ready completed and we were un-able to make changes that were suggested. The social media feedback was interesting but not useful as it was simple and basic feedback with no constructive criticism.
